Best video showing the Catalina Club jazz in all three Tunes
i absolutely agree
I have this kit and it is amazing. You can tune it high or low to get your preferred sound. I prefer the medium tuning, undampened. I can play very quietly with an acoustic jazz quartet or I can play loud in a rock/pop electric group. This kit is extremely versatile. Mine are Copper Sparkle - the closest I could get to the classic Champagne Sparkle. The quality of wrap and construction is excellent. Who needs an expensive kit when this is available? I love it.
Man, I bought this kit a few years ago and have been gigging regularly with it, but when I bought it this beautiful colour was not an option! I'm jealous of that colour.
As long as the color is the same and uniform on all the drums, it’s all good.
True that. Their Satins are eyecandy, especially the yellow ones.
I may not be crazy about the kit but thank GOSH you actually do open vs damp sound tests. I can't stand when I want to hear a kit on UA-cam and it just sounds like tics cause I can't hear what the sodding instrument actually sounds like in its glory!
What a great drum demo! This is how it should be done. Bravo.
Great little kits to carry around, if you don’t like the bigger kits these days.
Good value for money and nice sound.
It still boils down to the drummer playing them, the same as any other drums...expensive or otherwise.
True. Digging that low tuning
Excellent kit.
I bought this kit for the toms. They sound amazing
I mean for the money you can't go wrong! It oozes character and warmth.
"For the money?" These drums stack up against drums that are 5-times the price. Mahogany is my favorite tone-wood for drums. It's what drums were made of back in the 1940's and 50's. I wouldn't have a set of DW drums. Gretsch Catalina Club Jazz are the best thing going.. and yeah, under $1000. Even better.
@@margovallen waiting for the green flame
Great video. Thanks.
Closely sounds like Ringo Starr's kit in the '60s
This is perfect for studios and many situations. It’s an end game set. For professional drummers on extensive tours or many gigs all over locations, a more expensive set for better build quality would probably be more practical....Although the build quality is still good though
medium tuning, no muffler:)
For the money pretty hard to beat.Only thing is you need to replace the heads with a good coated single ply snare, tom, and floor tom.put a 300 hazy on bottom of snare and single ply coated or clear reso heads.for the kick you can leave the front head on but replace kick head with a head that works for you.Ive even put emads by Evans or ps3 remos. They sound great. As far as the snare it is what it is,a very inexpensive drum. Most drummers own more than one snare but if you have to use this one replace the heads and the snare wires.
Hi David I'm thinking about buying this kit, have you got it,and did you put the heads on you recommend.?
@@sweeneyTodd-de4by I bought the Brooklyn's my buddy bought this kit.yes replaced the batter heads on snare, tom and floor tom with coated ambassadors by remo.replaced snare side with hazy 300,and replaced reso heads on tom and floor tom with clear ambassadors. For the kick left stock head on front and put a remo powerstoke 3 coated on the kick side.I think all said and done it cost him about $140.00. It totally transformed the sound of the drums. I would highly recommend this kit. They look and sound great and as you know very affordable. Let me know if you decide to buy them.thanks,david.
@@davidsuprenant893 David thank you for your reply, I looked at the pearl midtown bop kit, but looking on UA-cam this looks the best,I'm new to drumming, are the heads easy to change?
@@sweeneyTodd-de4by very easy to change heads. If buying from a music store they will help you,if buying on line there are plenty of tunning videos out there on you utube. Good luck, enjoy!!!
@@davidsuprenant893 great thanks
Hey !! Do you maybe use drumdial ? I would love to tune my kit like your medium Tunning tuning!!
Fantastic....
Remove the stock heads, and watch this little beast take over whatever room it's in.
I like lots if attack with not too much sustain. you think some clear emporer will sound good for it and maybe a p3 on the bass drum? I like to play rock but add a funky fusion type sound to it.
The stock heads are fine. Just tune them to your liking. The toms are very easy to tune.
@@dylanbaldwin7934 If you like no sustain and a lot of attack get a Yamaha stage custom. These are very warm with sustain as they are made of mahogany which is known for that sound. Killing the resonance on these would defeat the point of owning them imo. The Stage customs are super tight and snappy with all punch and next to no sustain.
I always remove stock heads in case I sell them.
Is it worthy to make a DIY hole in the bass drum resonance ? Better for micing ? I'm interested with your opinions :)
Using Tune bot how can i know how to tune it low or medium like in this video, can´t get that same sound on the floortom. What Frequency should i be looking for ?
I’m saving up for this exact kit right now. Where is the best place to buy?
thomann
Great choice. I use this kit for my studio and it’s perfect. I don’t use the stock snare though since I have a bunch. The Gretsch Renown snare is excellent though and I use that. This kit also goes well with Ludwig snares too
Was sind das für hihat Becken die ihr da benutzt habt?
Do you recommend switching the snare wires for Canopus wires??
What is that tom muffling at 3:50?
jojoeyjules they are called Mini Muff - mistermuff.de/shop/
@@DrumsBonedo thanks!
Remobe the heads and use Evans instead.
I want it for free
Nice sound for the money from toms and bassdrum, but the snare is a complete turn-off. Sounds awful at all tuning ranges. Uncontrolled, wobbly, very unclean and kinda distorted.
fab 5 I just got one of these. I have had two others. Yes, that snare is very difficult. I am still trying to get the sound I want out of it.
I sometimes like that nasty sloppy sound but only on certain occasions. Not all the time
Agree, the toms are great, the snare is not so much.
The stock snare is inferior. But I would recommend getting other higher end Gretsch snares like from the Renown and Brooklyn models. Get them in different sizes too for variations. Those upgraded Gretsch snares are outstanding.
Well, yes, I agree that the main weakness of the snare drum is sensitivity (I've got the previous version, with a square badge). Quite hard a buzz roll. But it has some nice colours and overtones, if you want to play with these. I put die cast rims on it, for a slight improvement.
