Thanks Analogue, all your vids are very entertaining and educational, this one has certainly helped me, I've finally made a half decent sound by getting the instruments to work together, rather than them trying to compete against each other, you are a true gent sir! ✌🏻

This process does take time. Limitations in the beginning can help. Building your live environment (instrument setup) certainly helps define your sound. Avoid getting caught up in gear trends or accumulation traps. In the beginning you can learn lots of technique by mimicking other artists and then take the road to you own sound. Enjoy the epic journey 👍😎

Totally agree with your words brother, it’s more fun when producers look for their own sound. Of course we all have inspirations and coincidences with others, that’s inevitable but yes, we must try giving our own touch. By the way that is a cool trick to find melodies with rhythmic patterns! For instance i also make recordings with different objects, some percussion loops, etc. I mean with that you can achieve a very unique and human feel. Cheers!

  • @garvinkelly

thanks for all this great content! The way you talk about sound design and mixing is different than other youtube content I have seen and also way more helpful/inspiring. Do you ever do a midi hybrid setup with your modular or do you mainly use it for sampling? I am curious because I have a small modular synth+ digitakt+ micromonsta and I have trouble getting the pitches of the synths to be in the same key. I would love to use all three together for live sets but I have just used the digitakt + modular for the last couple performances (with cv.ocd midi/cv converter). I use the ornament and crime pitch quantiser module and I am not sure if the problem is technical or just me not knowing enough theory haha

The fact that I have a 303 and AS1 run on their own clock. They’re not connected to play midi notes

Really, really enjoying your channel bud. Just getting back into music after a decade away and this channel is on point.
Your observation in this vid about themes and moving from one theme to another per track is stunning. The lines between telling a story and a set - and - making it clear you are going to tell the listeners a story... awesome. :)
