Towns like Dzongu, Chungthang, Lachen, and Lachung are severely impacted, with homes damaged and essential roads blocked. Rescue operations are ongoing, with relief camps set up for displaced residents. Authorities are working tirelessly to restore connectivity and provide urgent aid. An orange alert remains in effect for both Sikkim and Assam due to continued severe weather threats.
Over the past 24 hours, six fatalities have been reported in Sikkim due to landslides and floods, emphasizing the gravity of the situation. National Highway 10, crucial for linking Sikkim to North Bengal, remains cut off, further complicating relief efforts.
Sikkim's Chief Minister has called for swift action to support affected communities and address the rising river levels' risks. Efforts continue to ensure the safety and recovery of those impacted by this natural disaster.
