I was that guy with a love for computers that didn't know how to turn it into something to live off of. Every job I found required a college degree. Thanks to Year Up getting my foot in the door, I'm employed with an above average salary. If you know someone that needs a program like this tell them, if you need it yourself apply. All the best to Aika, hopefully she transitions to an employee.
This isn't an ad by the way, just wanted to put this out there.

+isaaclikesturtles I know what you mean man. I found out about Year Up on craigslist haha. Thought it was suuuuuuuuuper sketchy. I did like 6 hours of research to see if it was legit. Looked like a real thing, so I scheduled an info session to see how legitimate it was. Fortunately, it wasn't some dude in a long trench coat in a dark alley way haha. Gave the interview my all, managed to get accepted, gave the program my all, and now I'm about to graduate with a job at one of the biggest tech companies in the bay area.
I know it sounds too gnarly to be true, but it's definitely real. Signing up was one of the best life choices I've ever made

+Joseph Padilla (Jaytee) thanks for using words that people use ha. idk seemed like all these vids have robot replies. my main worry about this is like doing all this hard work getting a internship at like say twitter then not getting the job and going back to safeway. it would be depressing to go from that to that you know.

+isaaclikesturtles It is all upto you if you want to be successful in your professional and personal life. Year Up will give/support you in all possible and impossible opportunities you can not get anywhere else. I did find out about Year Up from craigslist also, and like Joseph, I did few days of researches... Give yourself a chance to try it... in the end of the day you are not loosing anything except trying something new for yourself.

Good luck to her, but lying is not the best way to build her American dream. Being honest is always better. She knew English and she had money when she arrived to the US. Actually, Kazakhstan provides free of charge school education, which includes English classes from 3 grade. And all of "Work and travel" students come with some money, she said it herself in a recent interview in Kazakhstan. So, I think she has to give some credit to her home country, which accepted her family that immigrated from Uzbekistan as a repatriate and gave her some education.

She said that she had no money when she came to US. But that is a lie. She studied IT for 6 months , it is not for free and cost good money. Also I feel bad for Symantec company for hiring student with 6 month IT class and low experience. Yes, she is pretty . There is tendency now to hire graduates with 0 experience because they are young, fresh and flexible. But after that we have glitches in devices, and buggy apps and websites.

+Лиашер Тзинч So, are you saying that people who observe, think and have their opinions are dicks? This is a free country, dude. Constitution guarantee me freedom of speech. And you are not really mature person, if you insult others because their opinion is not the same as yours.

+BroMrDude I'd encourage you look up your facts more before voicing your opinion.
First off, She got hired at Gap Inc, not Symantec (see 3:40). It’s in the video, it’s on her LinkedIn, it even says so in the description that Symantec is just a *partner* to "launch the Symantec Cyber Career Connection, a pilot program designed to train opportunity youth for jobs in cyber security.” No where in the video or description did it say they were "hiring student with 6 month IT class and low experience."
But let’s *assume* they were hiring from this program for a moment.
First off it would have to meet their standards, after all they’re the ones piloting this program.
Second, no company *hires* from this program. They take on interns for 6 months, after 6 months of IT training (thus the name *Year* Up (so they’re developing skills for a whole year)), and then “it’s up to the student to make a good impression and get offered a job”. That’s also in the video @ 3:18.
As for the money for the "6 month IT class" that’s “not for free and cost good money”: Year Up is a free (they actually pay you a stipend) but intensive program (yearup.org). With 6 months training and 6 months in the company she eventually got hired at, I'd say that's efficient enough for an entry level position. And even more so if you show that your skilled enough to be there during your internship. Which is part of what an internship is about, the other part being gaining work experience and knowledge.
And even disregarding Year Up for a second. A 6 month internship to hire seems pretty normal for a company. In fact, I'd feel more comfortable with that than some other 9~ week tech boot camps that cost $10,000+.
