  • The Marquee club was where everything was happening in the swinging 60's. It's where the Rolling Stones played their first shows, and everyone from The Who to Cream to Zeppelin to The Sex Pistols and The Clash played in this legendary room. Sadly its now a taco shop and some lofts.

Sadly, the entrance you're pointing your camera at was not the club, it was only the entrance door to the club behind which was a long corridor. The corridor led to the club , which was actually housed in the building next door (to your left, as you look at the archway). Where the archway is, which now has 3 doors, the door on the right was the Marquee Club entrance, the door in the middle was a shop window (where the Marquee Club displayed posters and records etc. of the groups playing there that week), and the door on the left led to a stairway that went up to the first floor where the Marquee offices were along with other offices. The building next door where the club was, has now been knocked down, and in its place is a restaurant. That's where the club was. The Blue plaque makes it confusing for people who have no idea about where the club was situated. Next time you pass by, pop into the restaurant, and then you can say you stepped on the foundations where the Marquee club used to be. No live music was played in the building you are standing outside. It all happened in the building next door.

I played there on a few occasions with DRIVESHAFT. It was an incredible venue and you could feel the history of the place the minute you walked in the door. Thanks for this reminder video…🙏🏻😎🎵🎼🤘

I had the luck to go there a couple of times before the club moved to Charing Cross in 88 and where operated until 96. Both sites were great, but the original in Wardour Street was simply magic. Too sad it's gone.
