Thanks for this, I've been contemplating taking a stab at a belgian quad, but didn't want to have to buy "belgian pilsner", nor a bunch of other belgian specialty malts!

The D-180 from Candi Syrup is great stuff and recommended. I am not sure I have used Belgian Pils. I usually use a German/Czech Pils in my Belgian beers, but I have to think than an American Pils or 2-Row would be fine (or an English Pale Ale malt). I recently bottled a Quad following this recipe (hoping I can get one as good as the beer in the video): beersmithrecipes.com/viewrecipe/4678229

Nice video! Belgian Quad is one of my favorites I beers!. I have one on tap now. I used a Belgian Pale Ale yeast cake from Wyeast 1762 for mine. I also soaked oak barrel cubes with Woodford Reserve bourbon and added it to the keg. I was happy with the results.

I need to get a brew of a Quad into my schedule! I have a Dubbel fermenting now. I have not tried Wyeast 1762, but I have had such good luck with WLP530 that it quickly became my goto yeast for these styles. Playing with some other Belgian yeasts is something I want to spend more time on.

Congrats on the first place! I'm a novice of Belgian beer and just picked up a few different holiday sampler packs (st. Bernardus bring one of them). How long has your quad been conditioning?

The beer was brewed on 7/10 and bottled on 8/2. So today it is 4 months in the bottle. The competition was back on 9/12 and it tasted pretty good for only 2 months from brew day. I have a tendency of drinking my high ABV beers too young, so I am trying to let this one age a bit. St. Bernardus makes some wonderful beer. Unibroue from Canada makes some great Belgian beers and I can get them in the US for quite a bit cheaper than many of the Belgian imports.

Great video! I really like St. Bernardus wit and need to get around to trying the abt 12.
Also I'm not sure if it is my phone, but it seems like the audio is clipping. Not sure how you handle sound, but often you can turn down the gain on the mic to avoid that.
Anyways, keep up the good work!

Thanks for the feedback. I notice some peaks/clipping with my lapel mic. I edit my videos in Shotcut and adjust the level but it looks like there are some tools/filters that I can use to fix the peaks for future videos. Edit: It seems that I need to make the mike level when recording as the clipping is in my raw audio recordings.
