This was the best. This made Serena win 10 more grand slam titles
I remembered feeling so devastated but looking back in hindsight I thank Razanno for this upset because this loss lit a fire in Serena and rekindled that desire to on to win many more slams!!!
Razzano would never believe that she was the only player to beat Serena in the first round of a Grand Slam
And in her carreer she lost only twice, if we don't consider the 2021 wimbledon retirement. Against Razzano in 2012 RG and ten years later in 2022 Wimbledon against Tan.
This was arguably the biggest grand slam shock at the time until Nadal was knocked out in the next slam at Wimbledon.
This as others have said was a great loss for Serena 2012 alone she went on a 33-1 record after this match.
The crowd were frankly disgusting it one thing to support a home favourite but they were applauding ever error Serena hit.

Razzano was already 29 when this happened. Her coach and fiance died a year prior to this of brain tumor. She did a lot for herself and you should do the same learning to respect other players' stories and their accomplisments, and that not everything is revolving around Serena.

I don't see this match as turning point for Serena's career because she's always there, she's always around, an annoying threat for every players that desired to hold a GS trophy. She's consistently in a GS final every year since 2007 and that's why it's more relevant to stated that 2007 Sharapova final in AO was the start of the 2nd part of her career and the 3rd part is her post-pregnancy break.
Yes I'm aware that she failed to win any GS in USO 2011 but that's an indicative that she was there, around and ready to pounce when an opportunity came and that came in Wimbledon 2012 right after this one
I see this match more as Razzano hung in there, dug deeper than ever and refused to gave up so kudos to her because when you have an opportunity to beat Serena, you better capitalized it

Why is there no screen that says if it’s in or out. Why are they letting the other opponent decide if it was in or not because they’re obviously going to say that it in. That’s rigged (example- look at the last point of the match)

It's not all about Serena and it's not a chance being there at Roland Garros. Razzano was a good player, on a given day she played a better match than Serena and that should be recognized. Razzano also has her story as a player and person, not sure if many of you remember that she had lost her fiancé and coach from cancer in 2011, when he was only 32, so It's ok if you admire Serena and wish she had played stellar tennis to win this match, but let's not discredit her opponent who fought, was able to overturn the second set and to win the third, with an immense pressure herself on her shoulders because it doesn't happen everyday to be in a centre court and have the opportunity to beat Serena.

Razzano a crié de douleur pendant que Serena frappait la balle ce qui constitue une « hindrance », une gêne pour le joueur. Les cris hors frappe de balle sont normalement interdits, même s’ils sont involontaires. L’arbitre a été assez stricte sur ce coup là même si ce sont les règles.

@Oliver McCall I originally thought the final in 2013 was good but I then watched the full match again and it wasn't a good match. There were a few good rallies but that was it. Edit the match was actually great, I must've been drunk when I was watching the match the previous time LOL

That's a tough question. As already mentioned, the referee says "hindrance". But for what reason? Because she touched the court with her racket? I have never heard of it but it could be possible. It was looking like she was going to fall which could've irritated Serena. Or maybe she was grunting too loud?!
