    I really like this new Pathfinder. Even though it's still a unibody, I don't crawl rocks or go mudding nor do I tow anything so any benefits of body-on-frame are lost on me. And I also love Lyn's fashion style!

      They are underrated but there cars do not hold up due to the cvt. Hopefully this one will be more reliable. The infotainment also looks like a big improvement form the last generation.

      @@RRLV434 I've heard a lot of bad things about their CVTs on some of their crossovers like the Rogue. For example, my father has a 2014 Altima that just crossed 200,000 mi and you would think that car was brand new. Granted those miles are nearly all interstate miles, but still. I wonder if those CVT issues are universal or only an issue on some cars.

    As a very happy owner of a 1998 4Runner and makes good use of the 4x4 and ground clearance on occasion, I have pondered whether I actually need a proper truck for my next car. Many folks look at these crossover SUVs and say those cars are not proper off-roaders (myself included). And it's true that they aren't. But maybe I actually don't need a proper off-roader to get where I need to go. I'm not rock crawling and mudding. I don't even have lockers and up to this point haven't gotten stuck yet. Maybe a car like this Nissan would give me some extra niceties and comfort on the road while still getting me the off-road capability that I need on the 10% of time that I need it. Makes you wonder how many folks that purchase real off-road rigs actually need them. Again, and I say this as a huge fan of true off-road rigs. Decent looking Pathfinder!
    edit - Oh, I did see another commenter bring up the lack of a 4Lo option. That'd be a huge hit for me as there have been a number of times (though few) where I've made good use of the 4Lo option in my vehicle. Makes you wonder why Nissan switched the Pathfinder over to the unibody when they already have the Rogue (I understand the Rogue is smaller but still).

    Nice review! I love that dark green color. I’m surprised that the Toyota 4Runner isn’t mentioned as competition for off road duties, unless it’s because it’s not a “crossover.”

    @christhomas7951 Рік тому +5

    It’s funny that you mentioning the wipers and the indicators I thought it was an overkill as well but I think it allows you to not look away from the road to look down to see what position you have the wipe blades on. The same goes for the headlight switch. Normally you leave it in auto but sometimes it’s nice to know what position you have it in. Great review as always❤

      But don’t those notifications disappear after a couple seconds? It looked like it only told you what the last thing you changed was, not a general status of all aspects. If that is the case, I know what I just changed and don’t need it to tell me. If it had small icons or prompts for each though, and that stay on, I can potentially see a benefit there.

      @williamguillIII Рік тому +1

      @@ALMX5DP I have the Platinum model. It has rain sensing wipers. It shows you what settings it's on based on the intermittent wiper speed settings. So, if you have it set on a longer dwell time, it gives you one horizontal line for that setting. Shorter dwell times shows more horizontal bars, etc.

      Through the years the 4Runner has been a great, reliable vehicle. However, it has not been updated in over a decade. No way would I buy one in 2023. Wait for the inevitable redesign. If an oversized V6 engine with limited horsepower, 15 mpg, and a 5-speed transmission floats your boat, then go for it.

    I would argue that Nissan makes THE best production vehicle engines, second only to Lexus......and yet, they come sooooo close to offering a strong (and less expensive) competitor to the 4Runner, but yet stop annoyingly short.
    Very few people drive "off-road"......but WHO CARES, if A LOT of people are willing to pay $$$$ to APPEAR that they do?
    Add another 1 to 2 inches of ground clearance and a real 2-speed transfer case, and with Nissan's VQ-series engines, (if Nissan could figure out a way to price such a Pathfinder $3,000 to $5,000 below a base 4WD 4Runner), I don't think Nissan would be able to manufacture enough of these. It's the perfect sized SUV for people in urban areas and/or who have smaller garages.

    All these slightly butched up soft roaders. What people really want and can use is not an off road capable unibody but one that does great in 6-12" of snow, heated seat, steering wheel, windshield, locks, wiper fluid, mirrors and good defrost vents aimed at all windows. Remote start app with the option to turn all these on individually in the app.
    I'm not going off road more than a gravel driveway and parking on the grass at my kids games. Yes you can put in dedicated snow tires but 80% of the drivers on the road have no idea they exist, need to or want to.
