perfect honest review. Thank you. Maybee on friday I will be proud owner of one of the rega amplifiers :). I love the fact that it is pure analog simlistic machine and it looks misterious :) in good way to me.
Welcome back! What a great surprise in my feed …Hope alls well. I listened to Christel Alsos…wow ! Amazing …have you ever checked out tori Amos for any of your reviews ?
Welcome back. One of your last reviews I watched was the Rega Aethos. I also had it out on demo. Can't afford it at the moment. Was thinking of the elicit mk5 as it much cheaper and has decent power. What is putting me off at the moment is that some people think it's on the bright side, which is unusual for rega as I know the elex isn't. Since you have had both. What would be your opinion. Thanks again for a good review.
I had the previous elicit R and it was too bright for me, it was paired with Tannoy Revolution 8Xt’s, I exchanged for a Parasound Halo which was better all round, I can’t see why you’d buy the Elicit R but only with a more laid back speaker with a soft dome tweeter.
The Elicit V5 is not bright at all. It’s not laid back but is extremely clear, punchy and detailed. Detailed, with control of bass. You will not be disappointed.
Thank you for your detailled review. If I may ask you a question : Do you know if I can connect this ELICIT MK5 to an Equalizer on PREAMP Output, and then connect back from the equalizer to an Input like TAPE IN ) or DIRECT INPUT? (I did that with a Roksan K2 Amplifier and it worked fine)/ Thank you for your time
Great review ! Can you do a comparaison of dac with mojo 2 and Qutest ? Thanks ! Also how is the phono stage compared to rega aria , chord huei , and Hegel v10?
Do you think this amplifier will pair well with Wharfedale Linton? I know in a WhatHiFi review that they paired with an Elex really well so this should be an upgrade, but not sure to be honest if it will pair well regarding sound signature, having in mind linton are towards relaxed and warmth sound and Rega is somehow more vivid/punchier and energetic.
I have this amp and a Node (2021). To me the music sounds better, more natural and detailed with the Node used only as a streamer to the Elicit's dac than when I use the Node's onboard dac. The Node's dac sounds flatter and lifeless compared to the Elicit's dac. That is even if I use the Node's EQ. My speakers are ATC SCM7 which are very revealing so I can very easily hear a difference between both dacs. I used to own a Rega Elex-R and let me tell you that upgrading to the Mk5 made a huge difference. It has the right amount of power to make my woofers work their magic. Best move I could make. I couldn't be happier.
Hi there Nice review. What are Your thoughts on the performance of the built in DAC of the Elicit mk5. Is it comparable performance wise to the likes of chord mojo 2 or denafrips ares 2.
How would you compare to the aethos? Is it the same tonally? Interested in low level performance too. Curious if those record in/out can be used with an equaliser for less than perfect media.
I have the aethos, its the most under rated integrated. The aethos is a true End game amp. Now its all analog. I run a Gold Note DAC. The level of detail is un-describable You will get sounds you have not heard, and it completely takes control of your speakers. I am running a set of KEF R3 Meta.. Now for 2100 these speakers really out perform anything in that price. But the sound a authoritative and powerful. As well as clean and very open, the music comes to life.
Hi how are you? I'm thinking of pairing it with the KEF R3 Meta (which are as you described 4 ohms). Am I in the wrong for doing that? I rarely have long listening sessions and if I do, my volume is very moderate. Any thoughts?
I drive 84db rated ATC SCM7 speakers with this amp without any trouble at all. I'm sure it will be more than capable of driving your KEF R3 speakers. It puts out a lot more current than you'd think.
I have a Pair of KEF R3 Metas I got about two months ago. Running an Elex-R and sounds SPLENDID! Even more splendid with a SVS SB-1000 Pro powered subwoofer. As Splendid as the current setup sounds I am itching to upgrade to the Elicit "More Power".
I liked it quite a bit. Watch at 04:51 where I mention testing it with the album “rejoice” by Tony Allen. I also plan to compare with other outboard phono stages soon.
I think the headphone output sounds pretty good. I use it to drive many pairs of headphones, but it really shines with my Hifiman Anandas and Sennheiser/Drop HD58X Jubilee and not so much with the Audeze LCD-2C. I find these have to be EQed to get the best out of them.
So happy to listen to someone who is not fiightened to make a comparison and say this is better than the ones he mentioned.

Also I’ve been enjoying Lee konitz the jazz sessions ….didnt find the one you demod…you have the best recommendations…keep it coming !
thanks for your replay ,i will dem them with my focals

I like Tori Amos as well! I have not been listening to her lately but good suggestion, thank you!

Thanks Sean. The Elicit Mk5 is not bright at all - at least in my system. The Aethos is a big step up from the Elicit in SQ tho.

Good questions. Will work on them.

I have not used the elex mk5 with the Lintons. But the combination may produce an interesting balance.
Dito, I'd like to know how the dac compares to an external unit and it's overall synergy with the amp. Good review, thanks.
Good idea! I will work on a comparison of the built in DAC with likes of a Chord mojo

@@thebestoffools Very helpful, thanks.
@@pfekin My pleasure.
Would you choose this over the audiolab 9000a

Thanks. I will try and make a comparison of the built in DAC and Mojo. I don’t know if I can get access to the denafrips.
Comparing with the denon PMA 1700

I would agree with jasonme3557 … while the Elicit mk5 is a fantastic amp, the Aethos’s realism is a few notches up indeed.

While I have not heard the Meta version of the R3s, I think it would be a great pairing.

Will this be ok on Dynaudio Evoke 5’s? They hit 3.2ohms
I think so!
What was the phono stage like in it
I liked it quite a bit. Watch at 04:51 where I mention testing it with the album “rejoice” by Tony Allen. I also plan to compare with other outboard phono stages soon.
Hi does it have a headphone input ?
If yes did you try it
Regards
It does have a headphone output. Unfortunately, I lent my good cans out to a friend and couldn’t test.

You are not dead?
😂 … I’ve been invoked 😅
