I have to admit, I watch your channel as much for the music you listen to and talk about as the gear you review!
I love discussing music!
Finger Paintings I do have an awesome
I think the mofi version of finger paintings is also worth hunting down
@analogholic_reviews well thats the one I have it is a great recording
I have mofi recording
The Japanese pronouce the Nagaoka as Na-go-ka.
Thank you for that info
Bought a at-lp2022 which comes with the clear version of this cartridge, and it replaced a goldring 1042. I was severely impressed by the low noise of my system and the detail and musicality. I think it's extraordinary value for the money, specifically because you can buy replacement stylus for 150 euros. I'm not sayin this is the best cartridge for 250 euros, but sure is the best 500 cartridge I've heard. !
thanks for the good advises!
Totally share your opinions on the Harmony, which I have in SME4 on Gyrodec through to Devore 0/96. Very detailed throughout and excelling with female vocals.
Finally, a Harmony owner! Sounds like you have an excellent setup.
This amp really sounds nice.
First time viewer and I like your reviews. Am an analog guy myself. I've never heard Chord products myself, but have always been curious. You mention brands like Luxman, ARC, Manley and that's high praise. How does the sound of the Ultima compare to the these other tubey sounding amps? From what I hear from you, it sounds like the Chord maybe a bit analytical and could possibly be a bit bright for tube guys like myself. What do you think?
Coming from an ARC vsi60, Manley preamp power amp setup, the Ultima is not bright. Very resolving, powerful and yet so musical!
Thank you 🙏. Coming from an ARC VSI60, and Manley phono pre and power setup, the ultimata is not bright at all. Resolving, dynamic, and yet so musical!
My experience in purchasing a good preamp and a pair of Monoblock amps is worth the money if you have it, versus the sound I was getting from my hi -end home theater receiver while listing to music
Have a Rogue RP-5. Really excellent. Four tubes and just makes my system so good. Their service is first class. Great company and great products. Rogue will sell you a nice remote control made of aluminum for the RP-7 that works with this preamp.
I just received mine about a week ago. I bought the silver one which was on sale. This phono preamp is fantastic. Highly recommended. I replaced a gold note ph-10 with this and I immediately noticed the low noise floor. End game for me and my budget. Nice review!
Glad you are enjoying it. I love mine a lot!
I'm considering the Rega Aria phono preamplifier because it has two separate inputs. Could you recommend anything else with two inputs?
The Aria is a superb phono stage. Note that the 2 separate inputs are one each for MM & MC. ua-cam.com/video/BbmoKlnfWWc/v-deo.html
I think the Goldnote PH10 has 2 inputs.
@@analogholic_reviews yes it does.
Thank you for all the effort.
It was a pleasure!
i'll pick fluance or rega anyday of the week over that ridiculously overpriced turntable. 999$ is just absurd.
Strong words! I love the Rega tables. And, I own TT350, Rega P1, P10 and have owned the RT5, Rega P3 and the older P5. Have you lived with any of these record players?
Hello and thanks very much for the very interesting video, please give us a review of the Mozarts or tell us where we can find as I can’t find in your channel
Fine speakers the Mozart grands… a bit restrained in the presence range. But very sweet sounding especially for classical and intimate jazz trio. I hope to make a video on them sometime soon.
@@analogholic_reviews thanks, I am curious about their pairing with ultima ampli you like so much, I have Hegel h600 w Vienna bbg and another system with mozarts and Hegel h390, very happy in both cases
I have a P1 which is £299 in the uk. I absolutely love it. I may upgrade some where down the line. I use it with the Rega IO integrated amp and Dali Spector 2 speakers. I have absolutely no complaints at all. Amazing value for money. All the best and keep up the good work 👍
Very cool! Dali Spectors look pretty.
No doubt the Rega Planar 1 is a fine turntable. Arguably, its primary competition is the Pro-Ject T2 and Debut EVO 2 Turntable, the Music Hall Classic & MMF-2.3SE Turntables and the underrated Fluance RT85 turntable. Only a direct comparison could determine the "best" one in that pricing category and the 'winner' would likely be system dependent. Add in personal preference in the priority of audio attributes and we arrive at the 'Gordian Knot' of audio.
You are right, the 'best' turntable is subjective!
After 18 years and many of my own speakers (18 pairs if you count just what I've owned - I've listened to many more) , I have finally settled on Proac. I no longer have the upgrade bug, or wonder what could sound better. This is within reason and budget off course, but I found some pre-owned ones at a great price. I listen to live music often, and offcourse matching that is a cazy task but the Proacs sound the most realistic within my requirements, with the largest genre of music. Thanks for the great review!
Good to hear! Which model of Proac are you using?
@@analogholic_reviews Thanks! It's top secret 😉
@@LorDarkGoose😮😅
I do not listen to vinyl, but thank you for all you do!
I hope the music I use to describe sound helps entertain in some way.
I've tested them briefly in a store and found them too boomy for my taste.
Certainly depends on how it was setup!
I get my P2 (in red 😊) next week. Can't await. I listened to a lot of cartridge comparisons and independent from the price, the Rega Carbon (AT 3600) was one I liked most. Very nice review by the way - you are very talented to describe the sound 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Good choice! And thank you for your kind words.
I have a one, you won’t be disappointed! All the best.
I have an old p3 and a newer p3 and an even newer p6. I like the p6 with exact 2 combo. Lubed motor and bearing and got reference belt. Pretty solid unit. I doubt spending on new nd5 or nd7 would do much to improve the music I play most as in rock and jazz. It would be interesting esp nd7.
Im curious as well about the ND5/7. Hopefully will get to review in the coming weeks.
The integrity of Rega's reputation rests upon offering real improvements in each pricing category. The clarity of improvements is system dependent. A $3-5k system is unlikely to clearly reveal the improved fidelity of the top Rega turntables and cartridges. Rock's electronic instrumentation does present a barrier to discerning improvements in fidelity but as jazz uses acoustic instruments, when the system synergy and qualities permit, improvements in fidelity are easily discerned.
Another good review, Rohit. I own the Rega model just below yours (P8). It has been without question the biggest improvement in sound I have added to my system.
I had the P8 before the P10 for a week or so. Fantastic table. Amazing performance!
Is it a good match with linton Wharfedale?
I don’t see why not.
As always, thanks for the album/track recommendations you're reviews are second to none, but I'll admit that i mostly watch you for the mysic you use to do them!
Glad you enjoy the music.
As always, nice review. You're running the same cart and speakers as my brother. He's running an upgraded ProJect setup that cost about 40% more than this. I like my set-up with a similarly more expensive Rega P3 better than his by a bit. I'm not sure if this TT and these carts match or are more cost effective than what we're used to. I'm just incredibly happy to hear that JBL is getting back to trying to maximize quality for price. TT wise I'm a sucker for Rega and similarly engineered items that minimize mass and maximize rigidity, use of inertia differential and consistency. For MM carts under $1000 it's hard for me to argue with ATs VM 750 or 760, the Hana SL, or the dynavector 10x5. At a pay 10-30% of the value of your turntable for the cart equation that a lot of newcomers are comfortable with, just buy a Goldring E3 IMO. That said I'm running a dynavector DV Xx on a Rega P3 so my cart cost about $800 more than my TT.
Loved the combination of dynavector xx2mk2 on my P3 when I owned them.
Thank you for this video, so happy that you compared to the two Peachtrees. I have been very happy with my 220SE, but it has some issues and I am considering Elek Mk4 or rather the Elicit Mk5. I listen to al lot of acoustic music, mainly jazz but also want a Tom Petty song to be delivered with some attitude and sound like a complete band not only a million details. I am also tempted by the Yamaha receiver NR 2000a, have you heard that one? One question regarding the regas and the dac: Do i need a separete streamer or is it possible to stream Tidal or Spotify via phone?
I have not heard the Yamaha NR2000a but read good reviews on the unit. I love the their amps. You will need an external streamer when using the Rega amps you mentioned.
Did you have to upgrade the counterweight to compensate for added weight ? Rb330 stock weight is 98grams I believe
I didn’t have to use the upgraded counterweight but come to think of it, it should help with balancing the heavier cart closer to the pivot.
Still using my technics sl 1210 mk2 with an audio technica at 740ml but with a funk firm houdini and cobra headshell if you haven't heard of it get one one you won't believe how good it makes a budget cartridge sound but don't take my word for it a great review as always
nice selection of LP's, thank you for sharing!
Glad you like them!
Keep it up. Great reviews
Thank you 🙏
Love your reviews. Thank you.
Thank you 🙏
When I first got into this hobby, I went over to a guy's house to check out some OHM Walsh 4000s. He was driving them with some very nice Pass Labs amplification. I don't remember what his streamer was. I don't stream, so that gear doesn't make much impression upon me. Anyway, I requested he play Ziggy Stardust, which he did, and it sounded awful! Other stuff he streamed sounded great, but I was crushed that one of my all-time favourite albums sounded bad on good equipment. That experience still haunts me.
Interesting experience!
@analogholic_reviews well, the revealing gear revealed what is fundamentally a very thin-sounding recording. But, it was bad to the point of me not wanting to listen to it. I've got loads of lps from the 60s, 70s, and 80s that were not recorded well. I want to avoid spending thousands on gear that's going to make that stuff unlistenable to me.
@@redstarwraithmakes sense to me
As a dealer for the brand, I feel the AE509 and the whole 500 series is very under-rated. If people make sure to feed them pretty powerful high quality amplification, they're shockingly good. From what I can tell online, many do not provide enough electronics to really let them shine. Use something like a Hegel H190 or higher and they'll surprise a lot of people.
thanks buddy!
Thank you for your great reviews!
Glad you enjoy them!
Do you like the midrange? Does it sound warm? Thank you
I would say that if there is warmth in the recording, the speakers reproduce them well. But it also makes less than stellar recordings sound listenable.
@ I am looking for something to make some bad recordings sound better. Would you recommend these or anything else. Thank you
@@coytebryson3059oh that’s a tough one, sir. Warmer sounding speakers like the Harbeth, Spendor models might add the color and warmth you seek. I’ve owned the older Harbeth SHL5 model and it made me even sub standard recordings enjoyable to me. I have also owned the cheaper Wharfedale Denton 80th anniversary and to a lesser extent this speaker made some of my favorite music that was not so well recorded quite listenable. Hope that helps.
I was looking at the 225’s also.
I would chose the AXA-35,if only because of the design.Have a pair of Triangle Borea iii speakers( 90 db sensitivity), Bluesound Node 2i streamer. And.. the amp i a tiny Aiyima D03( with a 36 volt adapter). It sounds surprisingly good/warm/full, without being dull. And..(didn't expected that), intern dac of the tiny Aiyima sounds better than the intern dac of the Bluesound! I'm considering buying the AXA-35, here in the Netherlands about €400,- now, new. Yes, i've a small room, about 30m2, but high ceiling(better for the sound , bad for the heating costs). Ohh..i just coneected a SMSL-SU-1 dac between Node2i and the Aiyima D03..and it sounds even better!! Unbelievable! I read the reviews about this tiny cheap dac and yes.. i am 100% in agree!! For €80,-. Haha..don't think i need the Cambridge AXA anymore. But..maybe i will! it's not expensive. Of course i don't know how long the Aiyima will keeping running. Often runs all afternoon/evening and night. At night at low volume of course. And at last..of course there are differences in audio-equipment quality. But it's "all" about the mastering (the quality) in the studio, or live recording, That was already the case in the analogue era. And..room-acoustics!! Very very important. Hahaa..forgot to mention..i've also a fully restored Sansui AU-317. Souns amazing!! But yeahh..no remote and a little heavy and the look is nothing like the nice modern looks of the Cambridge of course. But soundwise..great amp, the AU-317, absolute. And as we all know..the hunt for the perfect sound is a never ending story… Sorry for the long long story..
Thanks for sharing. Agree about room acoustics, that's a major "component" in the system. And of course sound quality is subjective!
Yeah i like to watch “audio” videos on Y.T But for a lot of people it’s about the equipment, for me it’s about the sound, the music. The “perfect” sound doesn’t exist I’m very happy with my restored Sansui AU-317 (1978!). Bought it 3 years ago for only €200,- Probably the guy (a Brazian guy) needed “fast” money…
Hi sir great review. Currently have a rega brio with q acoustic 3020 ( treble bright ). Planning to replace my speakers with either Rega Kyte or AE 100 -2. Demoed the Rega Kyte with musical fidelity 3i amp, there were excellent in the midrange. Also heard the AE 300 ( AE 100 no stock ) costing 3 times with the same amp, sounded fantastic and more lively. Both these speakers were highly reviewed by you. Which speakers, Rega Kyte or AE 100-2 would match the Rega Brio tonally? Thank you
I own the AE-100 mk2 and have paired it with my kid's Brio and I like it! Decent detail and warmth, no brightness. I have not heard the Q3020 but I heard the 5010 model powered by Rega IO. Not a warm sound but sounded more detailed and crisp without being bright. Hope that helps!
Thank you very much. The AE 100-2 uses a 130mm midrange driver compared to Rega Kyte 125mm midrange driver. Also the AE has more choice in finish compared to Rega Kyte's phenolic resin cabinet. I am going for the AE. Thanks
You need a valve
How about 6? Love my ARC vsi60… but this TToby does it for me.
Great review. I'd never heard of Robin Trower, so looked him up on Tidal. I was brought up listening to John Peel, so I've started ther. Wow. I can't believe I've missed that one. Brilliant. I'm sure he's been an influence of The Black Keys. Their early stuff is very reminiscent of this. Thanks.
Will this be ok on Dynaudio Evoke 5’s? They hit 3.2ohms
I think so!
You have been bitten by the Chord Electronics bug, eh? You mentioned before that Rob has a top-of-the-line Chord Electronics set-upon his house that is really impressive and I wondered when you'd start reviewing their stuff. Also, Robin Trower is a great guitarist. His vibrato, sustain, and phrasing is second to none. The only thing I never could get behind is James Dewar's voice. I hate it. I know many people like him but I can't tolerate his style. I saw Trower live ere in Kalamazoo about 5 years ago. He was great but, he had a singer that sounded just like Dewar and I was sitting there listening to the band and caught myself thinking, "Man, I wonder what Trowwer would sound like if he was in a band with a really good singer?" and then I caught myself and started laughing because, he WAS in a band with several really good singers: Procol Harum!
Yes, Chord makes some excellent electronics. The Ultima range is a treat to listen to when I visit his home or the store’s main listening room. Dewar isn’t my favorite vocalist but I enjoy his singing sometimes, especially in the tracks “In this place” & “daydream“.
Thanks again for your excellent review! I have the Elex mk4 and have to agree that the mk4 is slightly nicer sounding than my former, yet excellent Elex r. I am currently running a pair of wonderful sounding Rega RX3's with my mk4...but......I think I should have waited and bought the Ayas....oh well. Still happy with what I'm hearing.
Hi !! I am new to this channel and I'm quite impressed with the speakers shown here ! First, in my opinion, the drivers are one of the best we can find on the planet. Second, the cabinet seem also to be optimised to fit the drivers and the port on the bottom is one of the best configuration to give the best bass. I would have liked to see the crossover, that would have been interesting. Thank you !!!
When u said 10 thousand I went for a cuppa and watched a movie instead haha
Lol
I'll need to reconsider these due to your review. Thanks!
I've always liked the Proac brand, but I would prefer an 8" driver for the money!
On the off-chance someone from Proac is reading this: "magnetic grills". Please. Those holes are so so ugly.
They are SLOWLY being made available on all models including this one. I think that if you order a new K1 you will get them.
I was taken by the look of this cabinet. At an estimated cost of 11500.00 US ? HDF cabinet. Highest quality internals, One transducer, one tweeter in its configuration, Veneer. As a person who understands the build complexities of a perfect cabinet, With the knowledge of speaker prices plus crossovers. The cost of high end veneer? You are trying to tap a market of people above my pay grade.
