Honestly I love how the Phog (and baseball field for that matter) are halfway between Daisy Hill and Jayhawk blvd, but you really can’t get a better location than that view of campus plus it’s way closer to the bars and Mass (and where I used to live so I guess I’m a little biased lol). Definitely needs major renovations and literally anything in the concourses so it’s not just like 2 small concession stands lol but definitely a lot more salvageable than it seems I think

As someone who works on the gameday event staff at TCU's stadium, I can tell you that the brick facade at Amon Carter Stadium matches the brick facades of most of the buildings on campus. I'm not sure when those aerial photos were taken, but they just completed the East stand renovations with new premium seating in the upper deck.

BTW, Jack Trice Stadium just finished a renovation that added a wrap around concourse for the north end zone, as well as a new athletic building just twenty feet from the NW corner of the stadium. Also, The stadium in not only named after the first Cyclone athlete killed in competition, but is also the only FBS stadium named after an African American.

in regards to the name "Sooners", before Oklahoma was a state, there was a "land -grab" where people lined up outside the territory, and at midnight, people were allowed to go into the territory and claim a portion of land. There were some people who didn't follow the rules and went in early (aka sooner) to grab land. So back in the days when Oklahoma was a starting, "Sooner" was a derogatory term for those that cheated and got an early start to claim land.

A 'Sooner' is a cheater actually. It refers to an event in the 19th century where the Oklahoma territory was opened to White settlers and free to claim by new pioneers. All you had to do was stake a claim to a patch of land that you wanted, and voila- it was yours!
Unfortunately, not everyone played by the rules. Many snuck in to the territory the night before and claimed the best plots of land for themselves before the race officially began. Because they got a head start, they were called "sooners" because they staked their claims too soon.

Well thats because they got left out of the ACC, Big Ten, and SEC expansions so they had nowhere else to go. They really are a school nobody wants or wanted. SEC could have had them anytime they wanted and they could have had a nice rivalry with Kentucky but SEC wasnt interested. Passed on them in the early 90s when they added AR and SC and passed on them again when they added MO and TAM. Could have had a nice rivalry with Ohio State, Penn State, and old rival Pittsburgh in The Big Ten. Could have had a nice rivalry with the Virginia schools in the ACC but I bet those schools didnt want them because they think their academics are superior. So yeah WVU keeps getting screwed.

Not that I give a crap about KSU playing Mizzou (trailers), but a much much bigger rivalry is being renewed this season. Nebraska will play Oklahoma which during the 70's, 80's and early/mid 90's was one of the five top rivalries in CFB.

On October 29 at 7 pm, WVU kicks off its basketball season with an exhibition game against Akron. Then on November 9 and 12, WVU hosts Oakland (MI) and the Pitt Panthers, respectively. The Coliseum will be crazy on that Saturday night when Pitt comes to town. Without Deuce McBride and Derrick Culver who went to the pros, WVU is still a Top 30 team and will get better with all the depth Huggs recruited.

Well if you don’t know what a sooner is now you will. The Sooners are a name significant to the state and it’s history. The name derives from a term used for early settlers of the Oklahoma territory. They were called Sooners due to the fact that the government had a set time and date for a race for people to claim land in the territory of Oklahoma, and some people went in and claimed land before said date and time. These people were called Sooners because they settled the land to soon.
