Abandoned Centralia House Untouched Everything Left Behind | Centralia, Pennsylvania

- Опубліковано 8 вер 2024
- On this day I explored an abandoned house in Centralia, Pennsylvania. By abandoned standards this home was in good condition. This was the mayor of the ghost town on fire abandoned house. I've searched the internet for hours trying to find a video of a house in the real silent hill. Finding an abandoned house in Centralia is rare. Only a few homes remain in Centralia (they are occupied) except for one. I'm happy to share what that home looks like inside, as well as the graffiti highway, and the famous church (not inside). I kept this explore simple and I didn't have my retainer in...so I will be talking a little bit more in this video than normal. I also added a brief history on Centralia down below. I hope you enjoy the video and please leave a like or a comment. Thank you for watching and hit that subscribe button for more abandoned videos.
Due due a coal mine fire that has been burning for over 50 years, its a near ghost town. Over the years the population has dwindled from 1,000 residents in 1981 to 10 in 2010. All real estate in the borough was claimed under eminent domain and therein condemned by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in 1992 and Centralia's ZIP code was discontinued by the Postal Service in 2002. State and local officials reached an agreement with the seven remaining residents on October 29, 2013, allowing them to live out their lives there, after which the rights of their houses will be taken through eminent domain.

who on earth would leave behind a perfectly good vhs copy of crocodile dundee?
+Edward LaFlamme lol! Crocodile Dundee is a classic
A person who straight up dies.
You are so lucky to have been able to explore this before it started being destroyed! Was here a couple months ago and it is absolutely trashed!! thanks for sharing this:)
one could argue, that their video caused the destruction...
@@tylernilson7021 yeah
Why do ppl destroy stuff cause they are douches
People can be animals, destroying memories and homes
Imagine if this was their parents or grandparents home.
First time I have seen anyone exploring any standing buildings in Centralia, great job! Looks like it was a nice house too.
+Explore With Us Thank you very much! I just couldn't sit on the footage any longer. It was a very nice home and I'm glad it was untouched.
Is it still standing?
+Explore With Us It's still standing
Not anymore, thanks to the help of your video creating awareness of it being vacant! Bldg is torn down. However it was literally stripped of all its hardware, furniture etc. Bastards even took the tub and kitchen sink, circuit breakers etc. Now sits and empty lot. thanks for nothing but exploiting.. You are not an explorer, you exploit!
@@carpathorusyn904 damn
This house was the former mayor's home. He passed a couple of years back. Great video! Thanks for sharing.
+Tterry Hyde Are you sure it's the former mayors home?
Lamar Mervine was mayor according to WGAL-TV interview done about 2005 at his home on Trautwine Street. House still stands. He passed away a few years ago. Not sure if anyone still occupies the home? www.centraliapa.org/video-report-centralia-historic-footage/
thank you for the respect that you showed to that beautiful church and cemetery. And that house was amazing!!!
Someone made a video of this house. Now it's all trashed and vandalized. 😞
Of course. People can't ever leave shit alone.
Dude I just went here the other day, when was this video taken? The house is completely destroyed now, tv broken, whole house spray painted. Quite sad if this video was taken in 2016 means that someone went out of their way to destroy this house
+Kaysee Robinson I can't remember exactly but it was in late 2016. Didn't take long for people to destroy it.
@@kayseerobinson7956 ay bro can you link pictures of the house now? your link is unavailable now since Google+ doesn't exist anymore (I feel old for G+ being one of my first social medias lmaoo)
@@IsaacJRoberts i will have to find the photos again! I havent been there in 3 years tho lol I cant imagine it now!
@@kayseerobinson7956 damn im curious about this house lmao
@@kayseerobinson7956 its been torn down
Nicely done video. Such a shame someone couldn't remodel this house. The bathroom was so clean and nice. Whoever owned this home did a great job on the upkeep. The furniture looked like possibly an elderly person lived there. Too bad it's empty.
+Michele Huffman I was amazed at the overall condition of the home...especially the bathroom.
The interior is like a time capsule of the late 70's.
Nice to see house still good condition like your vids.
datapakx25 thank you very much
datapakx25 !
There was a documentary in 2003 about the last residents of Centralia. This house may have belonged to the 85 year old mayor and his wife. I suspect whomever lived there passed away and the family cleared out what they wanted. It’s probably awaiting being torn down by the government.
Excellent video -very nicely done.I believe that this was the former Mayors' home who passed away in 2014.I found an old article with a photo of him standing in front. So sad what happened to the town.If you haven't watched the video on youtube called The Town that Was-you should -it's very haunting.Keep up the great work!
+Dawn L. Thank you so much for that information. I would like to do a more informational video in the future. I could tell he loved his home very much, it was very well maintained. I will definitely check out The Town video tonight.
I just watched a documentary on the whole town and what happened and now I'm quite saddened to see this. Wow only 3 houses left and now only two residents the documentary had 10 residents.....so sad. Apparently many remaining residents were evicted from their homes in 2009
you scare the poop out of me when you kicked that can around 8:21 lol
I have seen so many videos where so much personal stuff is left behind. It makes me sad to think about why nobody in the family cared enough to go and get it. ✌️❤️✌️
Too bad this town has nothing to do with the Silent Hill game.
Oh, there was lots of things removed. There was no dishes, beds, tables, no decorations, no lamps…. They family took what they wanted and left the rest.
It’s too bad knucklehead kids went in later and destroyed everything. Some people have no respect or intelligence.
Great video,I have been fascinated with Centralia for a long time. Thanks for the adventure. I will subscribe and check out the rest of your video's.
All of a sudden a siren goes off. The paint and wallpaper turn a sick coagulated scab red and peel off as they turn to dust. A large man dragging a rusty sword twice his size and a weird pyramid structure atop his shoulders rounds the corner.
Here On Mars
Yep an STL 10 siren
Good movie
The biggest tragedy is the fact that not only ws the government slow to react, but also the residents were resisting any help the government was willing to offer. The real issue is the inevitable outcome of a forced evacuation of the northeast sandwich zone due to the spreading of one anthrocite coal mine fire in Centralia back in 61
You need more subs bro, thanks for the video I've always been interested in seeing explooration about the real life silent hill :)
The house that appears at the end, was recently destroyed, it was not like that in other videos, what a shame!
Thanks for taking us along on your journey with you.
I have read a lot and watched a few documentaries about Centralia. Pretty sad how it went from being a happy lived in town to a ghost town, due to inadequate idiots and bad governmental policy.
For all we know, that home will most likely be demolished within the next few months or so. And yes. I do believe this is the first time I have seen a video of the inside of any of those homes there.
Again. Thank you.
+R Boyd Thank you for watching. I would hate to see this home get destroyed by vandals. I believe PA takes ownership when the owner passes away. So they will probably demolish it soon
Urbex Dane
Yep. Most likely slated for demolition either before the snow flies or sometime in the spring.
Yes the remaining houses all had been on list for demolition but budgets screw it up all the time. The Wormes were a hold out. I have posts above... I used to hang out in this area when I was a kid. Actually spent the Holidays there at that house with a daughter or grand daughter. The transmission went on my pickup truck and until I could get a ride home to my house near Allentown and get money and get the truck fixed the Wormers and I became good friends letting me stay there with the daughter or grand daughter just a few weeks before I left for boot camp. I dated the daughter grand daughter... It's so long ago sheet is sketchy anymore. I remember the house well because I actually went looking for the daughter grand daughter when I got home from the military... She's moved to Shennandoah some time before I got back but the Wormers still lived there and Carl and I went ice fishing twice about 1997. I bought place nearby I turned it into a hunting cabin. I shot my first 12 point buck not far from that very house. There is a tree farm just before you get near Bloomsburg and Danville. That area still has the best hunting this state can offer.
PA or the US (I forget) does own all properties within Centralia. Almost all property owners have been paid for the properties under eminent domain, eventually even some people that refused to leave. The final agreement, after much back and forth, was that the occupants could stay forever, but because the properties are now owned by the government, they cannot be sold to others. You basically had a lifetime zero dollar lease on "your" property.
What a shame what happened to this town and the people that lived there
We visited this house twice, not too long after you posted this video, it was totally vandalized, Windows, doors, remaining property, graffiti.
We went up again about a month ago, it’s totally gone now, we think they just shredded the house and covered it with grass, a sign now stands displaying the coal reclamation act, meaning- the fear residents had as to why the government wasn’t helping have come true, the government just wanted to claim the rights to the coal. It is now happening.
The basement is creepy!! Awesome video :)
Hey, don't knock that tv, it's rough looking but it's got a real clear picture on it. New sub🎈
I am really enjoying your videos! Thank you for not saying "wow! This is crazy!" Over and over like most urbexers do!
St Ignatius cemetery has a section of fencing that's bent and it's really cool. There were still vents there as of 2009 when I explored with my cousin.
nice video , i wish i can go one day to centralia , im a silent hill fan 👍😃
+victor porras I truly appreciate it. The best part to me was seeing the church.
victor porras, if you do visit, please be careful where you walk. The ground is so unstable, and can collapse anywhere. There are signs warning trespassers.
No it isn't, and no there is not. And it has very little to nothing in common with Silent Hill.
Very few places are actually unstable, and the signs are mostly warnings of fire hazards. A few cases of condemned buildings have had signs like "do not occupy" and whatever else.
Have you been there recently? There are only a couple houses left and otherwise it is a tourist attraction that dozens visit daily. I live not far away and never have I saw any signs warning about anything. There are very few buildings even left and the few that are left are occupied and have been safe for years. The craziest thing you may see is a little steam coming out of the ground in certain spots.
dude I am so damn jealous. I've been exploring for a long time and still havent made it to centralia! :)
Skatemaster Nate At first, it's kinda cool. But then it gets old. If you do get there, be careful on graffiti highway...they now fine "trespassers".
hunter that carpets probably hardwood flooring probably beautiful
The bath tub was very common in the Centralia cemeteries I am from there and remember all of them having a bath tub. They were used to water the flowers on the graves. It was easier to do it this way. Some of them were actually hooked up to a separate small pipe for water. The common faucets for normal bath tub use were not used.
+John Bonham wow! I would've never thought. Thank you for sharing this information.
I feel like it's best to leave things where they are, but part of me thinks, "What's the point? If I leave it it's just going to get destroyed anyway."
What a cool house, sad it's been torn down now.
Thanks for the tour.
I clicked the links not because I want(or can afford) the equipment but it helps you out and this is my favorite channel
For being your first explore video, well done you :) look forward to seeing the rest of your videos
+Anna Donaldson thank you very much. I'll try not to disappoint you
If you slow down abit while looking at the house contents and change your flashlight you could be better. 👍
+Coco Jo I will try to slow down a little more. Thank you for watching!!
😘i'm f 1982 virgin tehran.
The flashlight really blinded a lot...really blinded the artifacts.
Why do I have this feeling that somebody decided to take that bathtub and go sledding in the cemetery?
You are quickly becoming my favourite UA-camr 👍🏻
How did you not laugh and so ohhh crickyy lol at the crocodile Dundee
6:33 I think they called those things word processors.
OooOh Silent Hill. Very nice.
That first area is well below Centralia, the 'graffiti highway' runs just above it. A friend of my dad's named Flanagan used to have a house in the clearing near the shrine. We used to visit him when I was a little kid. My Grandparents are buried in St Ignatius cemetery. There was a bar on the main street (before the fire) owned by a sweet old lady. She used to sell us quarts of beer when we were 15, lol. Many of my relatives used to live in that sweet little town. There was a big grassy field where a school (I think) was torn down a long time ago. We used to play football there as teenagers.
I still drive through Centralia once or twice a week. I think I'll start swinging by that house to look for 'suspicious' characters, hehe.
The real site of present day silent hill!! Nice!!
+Mel Woods Thanks Mel. I'm heading your way in a few
It is truly sad to see a once nice home abandoned and most of the families things left behind. I think there should be a new law that if a house is vacant for 6 months or more, then a homeless family has the right to move into it, if that means saving the home. I watch a lot of these videos and it just makes me sick to see these once beautiful homes just left to rot. The bank would save money if they rented them out instead of letting them get turned into a huge mess that isn't worth buck.
This house is in Centralia, Pennsylvania, which has been basically condemned by a giant coal mine fire underground that has been burning for several decades. The government relocated almost all the residents. A tiny handful were allowed to stay to live out their own lives there but when they die, the government will take the houses. Nobody wants to move into this area as it is unsafe and there's no town anymore for things like grocery shopping, due to the fire. Plus even if someone wanted to move in, the government probably won't let them.
Did the fires ever burn themselves out? I remember back in the 60's going back home to NY and seeing the smoke from the highway, very sad. I was about 10 at the time.
Jim Topsecret they are still burning, the underground coals go miles and miles underground. i honestly don't see it ending anytime soon
Elizabeth Gaspodnetich the states that own land, which i totally disagree with any government owning land, they are not really supposed to, but these lands are too dangerous. the smokes coming up from the underground burning coals are too dangerous to breath. some places worse than others in that town of course, but some parts of the town are cracking and alot of it had sunken in. taking homes with it
Elizabeth Gaspodnetich, this house is in Centralia, PA. The entire town had to be vacated due to an underground coal fire. The ground is unsafe to live there, and also toxic fumes. The fire has been burning for yrs and yrs. It can't be put out.
Sad story sad town. Liked the video. Thanks for sharing.
amazing
thanks for the video :)
I enjoy watching ur videos keep up the good work waving from Indiana
Thanks Jerry I'll try my best. I'll be coming to Indiana real soon.
So sad for this town...
Basement reminds me of Amityville house basement lol. Can't get over all the stuff left behind.
+Louden Noxious I couldn't believe it myself. The basement was a little spooky
thanks for posting this love seeing videos like this
+Charitydivina Berry I'm glad you enjoyed. Thank you for watching
HEY DANE.. HOW GOES IT.... I CAME ACROSS ANOTHER CHANNEL THAT DID A VIDEO ON THIS HOUSE AS WELL.. ONE THING HE DID FIND AND TAKE (FOR SAFE KEEPING AND HISTORY) WAS AN OLD VHS TAPE..
ON THAT TAPE WAS OLD NEWS CLIPS AND RAW VIDEO FROM AN OLD CAMCORDER RELATING TO CENTRALIA AND THE FIRES AND RESIDENTS...
IT'S A BIT GLITCHY, BUT ONCE YOU GET PAST THAT, YOU'RE GOOD..
HE EDITED IT AND PUT IT UP ON HIS CHANNEL..
CHECK IT OUT..
THE CHANNEL NAME IS " JPVideos "...
PEACE DANE..
There's a more recent video where the same house is now completely trashed and destroyed. It's sad.
+jane barnett Unbelievable! I had to check it out. What they did to the bathroom is ridiculous.
jane barnett Hi. Do you know title of the update video?
So you were in my neck of the woods.Great deal.Get it all in pics. It'll all be on the ground at some point.
Great video . Thanks for posting .
Good explore, yeah that house is in really good shape.
+Leah Drake Thank you Leah!!
the bathtub in the grave yard is or was probably used to collect rain water to water the plants left at graves
The flashlight puts a glare on everything.
Thank you for this history lesson. Until today I had not even heard about Centralia, when I first saw this UA-cam video, I decided to Google Centralia and read and learned about the disaster. Thank you once again, if not for this video I would still be ignorant regarding Centralia.🌻
Cool find
+Abandoned Exploration_Urbex1979 Thanks!!
Urbex Dane yup, ur welcome
I love the Vintage playpen
LOL...Floor Model TV's were called "Console Televisions"
Wow, nice work! I have seen a million videos on Centralia, and remember seeing it on the news, as a kid. I didn't think there were any buildings left but the church, where they have a reunion every year or so. The most I've seen of any homes or buildings were just a wall, or a foundation. Good find.
If you look at the grave stone that says Ornyiak. They owned the hardware and grocery store in Ashland if I remember correctly. The wife died suddenly in the store cashiering about 1980 or so I left for bootcamp the day after it happened. She just dropped over. I think there is one big marker for both of them not individual.
Can someone link me to the more recent video showing the house destroyed? And does anyone have any footage of inside the church?
Anyway good video dude you can tell the house was well cared for
+Bunny Costello I believe you can find it on Jay Drones channel. Since the church is still being used, I don't think there's footage of the inside. I'm not 100% sure though.
There are pictures of the inside of the church. I have seen them online before. The statement that it is an active parish is correct, though I do not know how long that will remain the case.
The church seems like it's far enough up to be unaffected. If you go there, there's one area near the highway that's obviously destroyed...but the rest of the area is largely intact.
i would have been all over those vhs tapes downstairs
Dahlia Dolores there's another channel that uploaded one of the tapes from the house with a bunch of news stories.
Nice Buds.😃
Back when this video was posted there was a reasonable chance my tools were still in that basement. Now....Not so much.
Home is really dated , love it . Like stepping back in time
A lot of loud birds in these abandoned house video tours.. That's pretty cool..
Man alive! I haven't seen carpet like that since I was a kid lol...kids today wouldn't understand.lol
Great First!!👍
This is amazing can't believe how much stuff is still there, well done great explore. Haha random bath tub in the graveyard.
Yeah that tub is out of control. I was shocked to see the condition of the home.
you gotta slow down and look through things like cabinets and on tables you go to fast that's my only criticism thanks for your videos! be safe
"Silent hill" as a video game I have known for a long time, but what it was based on was unknown to me. I've seen reports on television about an underground fire in a mine, but that sounded very fake. Thank you for your video, great and also very interesting for someone who is very far away. Greetings from Germany, Jess 😎
+Jessica Grötzschel Hello Jessica!! Yeah this place is real alright. Not as creepy as I once thought. I found it quite sad to be honest.
The video game has absolutely nothing to do with this town, though.
Amazing... a coal town and the owner still heated the house with coal. That boiler hasn't been converted and the coal bin still had a shovel in it.
Its amazing how eventually, the Earth reclaims the land. You would never know there was a town there before.

Was just through Centralia today the house is now completely gone
great video, many thanks for sharing
+Jacky Hawkins thanks for watching I'm glad you enjoyed the video!
I guess what bums me out is the fact that this man (homeowner) died. There was nobody really left in town to keep an eye on things. Then the property just gets systematically picked apart. Scrappers probably took all the plumbing and radiators. Then others ransacked the old mans belongings. Then it sounds like it turned into petty damage and graffiti from there. I have always been amazed at exploring like this. I just find it satisfying and also a little depressing to see things like Chernobyl and Centralia and just watch the evolution. And by no means am I chastising the original poster. This video was neat to watch and I appreciate you guys just exploring.
Yanni on cassette and Crocodile Dundee on VHS. That's a home right there.
Aww man I was pretty close to that area yesterday. Well a few hrs anyway. I was in Harrisburg filming. Someday in the future I will go to Centralia. Will be going back home tomorrow to WA state

When I lived in Central PA, my biggest regret was not going to Centralia after learning about it in 2009.
Those classy vandals ran out of walls and sidewalks so they tagged trees instead..
Some peoples' ideals will remain in such a degradated state for the rest of their lives.
Not even. No shortage of walls but also no shortage of toys
Interesting video 👀 last passed through there in 1988 some residents still there then.As of now are all the residents gone now?Church looking like is still in use & well maintained.Didn't see any venting smoke from mine fire in this video right where you're @??
You should've gone to the Graffiti Highway outside of Centralia, I haven't been there, but it looks cool. Just be careful there since there's a few holes from the underground fire
I'm surprised that you were able to find a single unoccupied house left standing. Like you said, nearly everything was claimed under eminent domain and demolished. Other than the homes of those few remaining residents, the church, the municipal building, and the cemetery, everything else is gone.
I've seen videos of Centralia from other explorers and I've looked at google earth and street view and all that's left intact are the street grids which bypass empty lots. The government has been so thorough in getting rid of everything that it's almost impossible to tell that the town of Centralia ever even existed.
The only thing I can figure is that one of the older residents that had been allowed to stay, recently passed away and the state hasn't knocked their home down yet, either because they're unaware of the death or they just haven't gotten around to it. If the house hasn't been empty too long, it would explain why everything, although old, is in such good shape.
+Rey FESHER I couldn't believe it myself. The home waz very well maintained. I only went there to experience Centralia & possibly see smoke from the fire.
those dish recivers on the tv are from 2004. i used to have one like it lol
Your definition of "untouched" varies from mine. To me, "untouched" means no vandalism, no graffiti, & no ransacking; this house has all three.
Thanks for showing the house. The light on the camera seems like overexposure. When it was turned off I could see detail better. The ambient light was pretty good. Where was that coming from ? It looked like the windows were boarded up.
You must have been one of the first people back in the place because it wasn't all thrashed and graffitied- up.
Probably not anymore.
