A Forbidden Door DLC featuring New Japan wrestlers and arena would be crazy cool.
I wouldn't expect that to happen. The lead developer stated different answers to that question. One week it's continued dlc, the next week is not sure, and then we will make a sequel if the demand is there instead. I want a good wrestling game, but even any criticism toward the current build gets AEW fans angry. The success of this game would be great, but for fans of creation try Fire Pro.
Whenever fight forever releases, I hope this forces 2K to step up their game because you know how competitive Vince is

Hell yes, I’m excited for this game. I’ve been missing the Aki engine. My obsession started with WCW/NWO WORLD TOUR and went all the way through Wrestlemania 2000. I have missed this engine so much. I played countless hours with those older games to the point where I almost lost jobs 😂. This makes me want to buy a switch just so I can play Fight Forever on it. Aki and AEW together is a marriage made in wrestling heaven!

I DO hope they have some kind of Management Mode, like WWE's Universe Mode or MyGM
They won't have a GM Mode at all. They already have a standalone game for that.
They need to add a Universe Mode type mode for replay ability in the future. Something similar to Smackdown vs Raw 2011 Universe Mode.
I love the idea of this game. The fact that they want to expand on it by just using updates is smart. This way the game becomes more enjoyable as well replayable. I'm looking forward to playing this
That is the magic model. 2k is shitting the bed with the 8-9 month turnover for a new game. People will get sick of this and already are. I am. I would pay for updates and constant dlc.
this sounds like a hybrid of No Mercy graphics/playstyle with the patching/updating style of Fire Pro Wrestling. and that's a GREAT combination if done right
All I can say is I'm happy for all the AEW fans and just for the people who wanted a different sort of wrestling game. I never watched a AEW show, a lot of these guys/girls are unknown to me but I was considering getting the game as an alternative. However a short story/basic character creation really turns me off. I'm sorry. That was my biggest gripe with the TNA game years ago. Not to mention the lack of women wrestlers and more. This might just be a game I watch instead of play but for everyone else. I hope y'all enjoy it. I'm happy y'all got another wrestling game to dive into.

That’s literally what it is. Short entrances, limited moves, button spamming, 4 players on screen, limited match type diversity, mostly unknown roster, blocking with chest, graphics better during the entrance
@@domlitt9001 No. It's not. The TNA game didn't have a CAW Mode/Creation Suite of any kind and was relying on the star power of its roster (and the storyline involving Suicide/Manik). Sure, being AEW's first videogame & a live service title at that, AEW: Fight Forever will be barebones at launch (and will continue to be for the first couple of years as they steadily improve the quality & add in DLC), but because it's a live service title rather than an annual release, this means improvements will be consistently made, whereas the annual release WWE2K games will only make minimal changes each year.

@@domlitt9001 We've known why the game looks like it does since before development on the game began. It's to wax nostalgia about the N64 wrestling games & the early Smackdown games except with an updated AEW varnish & some ECW-worthy hardcore bouts (the Lights Out match & Barbwire Deathmatch), as well as some silly mini-games that are part of the Road to Elite Career/Season Mode (meaning, if you want to earn all of the game's achievements, you'll have to play the mini-games).
The differences between those games & AEW: Fight Forever is not only the modern consoles the AEW game will be available on, but the fact that getting the game on PC will be the only way to import Custom Music into the AEW game, the AEW game will only be able to be modded fully on PC as far as modding capabilities go because modern consoles usually actively prevent modding unless the developers purposely allow for workarounds (see WWE2K22-WWE2K23 allowing for the wrestling videogame community to mod the exclusive MyFaction/My Rise characters into the other modes of the base games & eventually even mod arenas [the Night Club, Airport, Bus, various Empty Arenas, etc. available on both games, thanks to MartyM & others]), whereas the two games which AEW takes the bulk of its influence from (N64's No Mercy & the 5th Smackdown title, Here Comes the Pain) are both mod-friendly on either easily found emulators or directly on the consoles themselves (specifically the Playstation exclusive games), and the fact that Kenny Omega himself (as both a former EVP of AEW & an avid gamer in his own right) outright stated (consider that he said this well before an AEW console game was even an idea) that AEW doesn't have the budget to directly compete with the WWE2K games.
In addition, because this is AEW's first game, the prospect of it succeeding as a live service game in the future matters little when the player base knows from the very beginning that the base game at launch will no doubt be heavily stripped down at best & bare bones bereft of any enjoyment for contemporary wrestling fans who expect current wrestling games to chock full of bells & whistles at worst, which the AEW videogame will not be, at least to start with. Furthermore, with the lack of Community Creations/online downloading, this also means a return to handwritten/typed out CAW Formulas like in decades past, too.

People mentioning AKI and not mentioning DefJam. That game was so much fun, not a traditional wrestling game, but the impact and the hits, glad AEW FF looks just as impactful. All we need now is a HipHip Rap soundtrack, create the rappers and artist, and make a gritty arena. Can't wait for Fight Forever!

50 wrestlers is not bad to start out with. For a $60 arcade-style wrestling game, it’s going to be a wait and see for me, especially with Diablo 4 and Street Fighter 6 coming out next month. I will be keeping my eyes open on the feedback/reviews though 👀

This game is looking far better than I was expecting in terms of gameplay. That’s what matters to me most. There are a lot of questions to be answered (creation suite, career mode, DLC etc). Hopefully they can answer some of these before release. Great vid Matt. Keep killing it. God Bless.

I just wanted a game like the old smackdown vs raw like 06-08. This seems like it plays a lot like those and thats what drew me to it.
Just gonna point out that Wrestling Empire has been on Switch since the beginning of last year.

After seeing the 4 matches they played on twitch, I really really hope they add Jeff Hardy into AEW Fight Forever. He would be insane to play as in the extreme matches.

It seems pretty decent so far, I'll wait on it to buy just to see what they expand on with the rosters. I'm more of a Universe mode type player so I need some of that if they ever expand a game mode like that tbh. But all in all I hope the best for this game

I absolutely Welcome the cartoonish violence and straight forward arcade approach. I’ve missed that so much since the SVR games took a turn away from it.
Remember WWE All-stars, No Mercy, the Def Jam games, and Galactic Wrestling? Those games were amazing, why aren't there any wrestling games like those nowadays? :/

I'm cautiously excited for this one, I will still hold off until the review embargo is lifted and we get a final look at the finished product. I'm not convinced yet to forked $60 for a game that we've barely gotten any details about and I've been finessed enough already with all the unfinished games released the last couple of years.

Hey Matt, awesome video bro, definitely getting this game day 1 because I've been waiting for this game to come out. Definitely a nod to the old N64 wrestling games that I grew up on. I was in the 4th grade when WCW/NWO Revenge came out and it's still one of my favorite games of all time, No Mercy is up on that list as well
it would be awsome if players could change the control setting from using the stick to using the d pad to move the superstars if they wanted to do that it would cool for those who have a hard time using the stick to move the superstars

@@northphillyp No, it's not. Community Creations is NOT in AEW: Fight Forever (the base game, at launch). It may be added in later on down the road, but it is not in currently. This means a return to written down/typed out CAW Formulas like in years past.

It will be a HIT. It's shaping up to be a really good fighting game period. One anybody would like to play because it looks good, different, and has some cool ass moves
I hope the career mode is not short, or like someone mentioned there has to be a "Universal mode" added. Cause im not buying a game just to do exhibition matches. I need it to have my own promotion, that's where a Universal mode works.
I'm surprised with all the blood. I heard that one of the reasons why the game was delayed was because they were trying to tone down the blood. Not disappointed with the blood just surprised
Same here. Apparently they had to town down the violence due to the ESRB. It’s still very bloody though which is odd

Gotta respectfully disagree. AKI games were simulation games on just under fire pro and on par or above the other games of the time.
Early Smackdown titles were clearly arcade.
2K gameplay doesn't have the depth of No Mercy, they talk down about it and they get inspiration from fighting games as they said and as they move towards fighting game health meters, combos and stunned modes that stand in the place of actually gradual selling, huds instead of selling limb damage, etc
The lack of Danhausen is outright insulting he's their highest merch seller.
They run the risk of him cursing the game and them.
He'll be DLC, more than likely. Same with FTR, The Acclaimed, and others not on the base game at launch.
A universe type mode with no glitches would be nice, but yeah can’t wait for this game reminds me of how the WCW games were better then the WWF games in the 90s
I have a feeling this game won't be for everyone and it will bomb in reviews but traditional wrestling fans will consider the next best thing

I was excited for this game as soon as it was announced and after seeing the trailer I immediately Pre-ordered it! Because of this excitement I brought AEW into my 2k Universe. While the story does sound interesting, I really hope there's a universe-type mode so that I can make my own shows and it generates storylines because to me that is what really gives 2k such high replay value.
I'm glad there's actual competition now. 2K22 onwards the game took a big step back making the gameplay very repetitive and boring overtime, despite the visuals.
I love that aew is releasing one game and just giving us dlc updates in the future

The fact we getting live updates is the best part, i wont have to pay $60 every year to get updated attires(not counting CC). Hopefully we get updated arenas.
If you are familiar with the Sims Franchise game series they always shell out dlc expansions, stuff packs, kits, etc and the game could live on for a decade even more. Thats what im hoping we get from Yukes/AEW
AEW FIGHT FOREVER is going to be a lot of fun no doubt! I feel like I am going for the PS5 & Switch version myself. Excited for that arcade handheld too Matt & the blood & violence is completely that wanted/needed bonus! I am pumped for it! Something different & alot more situations & options than 2k & that's ok...we need something different, an alternative so to speak. I love WWE 2K22 and WWE 2K23, but I want an alternative to those games. Having spent countless hours back in the day playing the N64 wrestling games from AKI, I am so excited for AEW Fight Forever!
It's not using the Aki Corp engine, they are using the philosophy in design of those games. Easy to pick up but difficult to master. Not necessarily simple. Many people who worked at Aki now worked at Yuke's. The director of many of the games (No Mercy/Def Jam) was brought on to work on Fight Forever. Its seems like AEW created its own engine.

Live service wrestling game? I have been DYING for one of these for years. It just makes sense to add in new wrestlers/update old ones, so much potential!
@Assemble think it would be cool if fight for ever had a sand box mode called calendar mode as I feel that could be really especially if they want to do an ROH and NewJapan DLC packs to go with it as I think that could be something AEW does later on in AEW fight for ever.

Im also very happy to see someone decide to try to attempt to the ONLY GOOD FEATURE from the atrocities that are both ECW games from n64 and ps1, that ive wanted to see elsewhere but never to the right level exactly...this looks more like the ECW blood than i ever seen.
They should have a dlc called forbidden door and just number it every time they add more characters from forbidden door in.
If this game is just like Nwo vs wcw and no mercy with here comes the pain game play. This game is going to be amazing!

I hope it’s like the THQ/AKI setup where there are hundreds of faces to choose from and hairstyles, attire etc basically preset legends like for instance Hogan isn’t in the gam but his character is in the create character menu you just have to put him together and it fits the graphics and game perfectly as well as tons of move sets for hogan and others.
With the graphics not being so taxing, I can see a lot of DLC. I also think they’re hiding something big because they were very secretive during the stream yesterday. I grew up with wcw/nwo vs the world and so forth and I I much rather a wrestling game look like this and play well rather than 2k and have it play stiff with tons of crashes and limited amount of images and caws due to everything else taking up so much.
They need a slogan for this game like: “it’s fight forever and you know what that means” or what else y’all got?
The style of the blood and how the blood works reminds me of WWE 2K14 a lot

Pardon my French, but I can not fucking wait!
You sell me on this just by saying "it's the AKI engine," so I will definitely be getting this. But I seriously doubt I'll get the same experience that I had back on No Mercy. What a friend of mine and I loved to do on those old games was to create a bunch of wrestlers, as many as the character menu allowed, from our days as kids wrestling in my basement like idiots. Then, we'd start a Royal Rumble match, but with over the top rope eliminations turned off, meaning elimination were by pinfall, submission, KO, and blood. And then we'd choose each other's lineups so that neither of us had a damn clue who the next guy was gonna be. It created this really unique match that was kind of a hybrid Royal Rumble/Survivor Series/Gauntlet match...thing... We literally spent entire afternoons doing nothing BUT that.
And then I lent my N64 stuff to my next door neighbor, who thought I was giving him everything, and lost both my original copy of the game and my memory card that stored all the wrestler information. And this was a copy that constantly erased the create-a-wrestlers at will, too. 😒
I hope it’s fun, and has plenty of moves. I remember that tna game came out and just about everyone had the same move set

So smart of them to use the aki arcade style. U can't beat 2k for realism so don't. I hope some of the same music from revenge will be on this.

For me, I don't consider this a typical arcade game. Neither is no mercy or the other AKI games. I understand Kenny omega even says FF is an arcade game, but when he was on that podcast talking about it. He even said you can play it like a simulation. And from what we've seen, he's right. Nothing about this game feels arcade other than the mini games and the blood. Even though blood on an AEW show is pretty accurate. Games I consider arcade are games like battleground, wwe all stars, wrestlmania arcade game etc. Even smackdown HCTP has more arcade feel than Fight Forever. I think Fight Forever is just going back to the days when wrestling games were fun and fast-paced. Because if this is considered a true arcade game. Then, just about every wrestling game except 2k is an arcade game. I think people will be very surprised at how sim this game is. It's just more smooth and faster paced.
I wanted this game because of Maki Itoh. The first DLC they have to add more to Women's roster because 7 of them is way too low.
Hey Mr. L.A. Knight guy, I hope WWE 2K24 Update the Creation Suite as they limited it and couldn't change the body as In previous games. All you could do was change the height and body type, think an overall new update is needed. Since we are going towards 2024, any updates on Ultra Pro Wrestling or The Wrestling Code as yet? Please and thank you 😊

I love the idea of one game with a long term plan to add things. That's something that's done all the time with other games. Look at the call of duty franchise on Grand theft Auto those games and years old but constantly updated. In theory, the adding potential is limitless. The story mode could be never ending with downloadable chapters.

My assessment is that this game is initially going to be purchased by fans of the product, so unless this game really does translate to what Omega and others are preaching(it’s a successor to No Mercy, etc.), then this game will be part of the $20 Value section in a few months.
