  • Nanou is mainly planting alone as Grinch is busy watching the rugby. She is trying hard to get some jobs done on the plot despite all the rainy days lately. She is getting on with planting all the seeds for February. There are some seeds she has found that she is particularly excited about and she is hoping to get some gardeners that might want to join her in a grow-along with regular updates. If anyone is interested please do go onto our Instagram link and leave us a personal message with your address and we will send you some seeds. We have 20 packets to give away to start with.
    Thank you very much for watching.

    Hi Nanou you are so right about the joy and peace of the allotment. Also about doing the hard work on the site giving you that connection with the land and plot that you maybe wouldn’t get if you get someone else to do it for you. Also you miss out on the hidden gems you find. My guess if your new neighbour not being enthusiastic about the start of their allotment journey perhaps means they won’t stay long. Fingers crossed. Allotment looks fab. Well done xxx

      I am so glad you understood what I meant. Taking the time to stop and enjoy our garden brings so much joy and contentment. As I get older I really do appreciate it. I used to be always on the go and be so stressed but the garden is teaching me to stop and breathe and let go of all the worries. We are all so lucky to have gardens. 😘💕🌸

I hope you won’t mind, I had a look online and the colour is stunning and I love the fact that it is an extremely tall climber so she can see it from above and it has a light and sweet fragrance, just perfect. Love the valentines gift from grinch - what a lovely couple you are. Can’t wait to see it flowering!
    I totally agree that clearing/digging/ creating the whole plot is a process. It takes time and effort but so much satisfaction and I think a bit of bonding comes from feeling a part of every inch of your space.

We also have more time to really stop and enjoy what we have instead of rushing around after impossible dreams. I am purposely making time to stop and breathe. Looking after a garden give us that breathing space and that escape, even when we work hard at looking after it. We are so lucky to know the joy of caring for a garden. Have a great weekend. 😘🌸💕

    I used to grow peanuts with my children, many years ago. Digging up peanuts is just as satisfying as digging up potatoes! Where ever you put your asparagus, it should be by itself, as it will grow bigger every year. You can grow small annual vegetables around them.

    • @plotno.9
      @plotno.9  6 місяців тому +1

      I have to admit that until I bought the peanut seeds, I had no idea that they grew in the ground!!! I thought they grew on trees like walnuts or almonds! 🤣 It is amazing how much I am learning about my food since we took on the allotment! I have guessed that about the asparagus as I couldn’t believe how big the roots were after just one year! I am so glad I took on the extra plot extension as I can now dedicate plenty of room to the big plants! A full asparagus bed was the right thing to do. I just hope they won’t mind the move and will grow! 🤞🤞😘💕🌸

      Grinch does love watching rugby! It does give me some peaceful time on the plot though, I enjoy that too ( when it doesn’t rain! ). Clearing our own plot is absolutely part of the fun and helps us bond with it. Being able to look back and see the progress of our hard labour feels so good! Even if it isn’t done perfectly and if we make lots of mistakes along the way, it is all part of the enjoyment! I am loving your progress on your gardens and on your plot! Shed looks lovely, like having a grown up cubby house.
    I moved my in ground asparagus last year, what a task that was, the root systems were massive and deep.
    You might be able to get organic unroasted raw peanuts from a health or organic store that you could try planting. I’ve bought chickpea and pinto bean seed this way and had success, and much cheaper too.

    • @plotno.9
      @plotno.9  6 місяців тому

      It is definitely a cubby house! My dad built me one when I was a little girl and I loved it! We lived in French Guyana in South America. It is where I grew up. I was heartbroken when we went back to France and we left our amazing garden and lived in a flat. I could never get used to it.
      I couldn’t believe how big the asparagus roots were considering I only planted them last year! I hope they will be ok being moved. How did yours do after you moved them? Seeing the roots definitely confirmed I have done the right thing separating them from the artichokes, such big plants! I had no idea!
      That is a great idea getting them from a health shop, I should have thought of that! I will get some there if the peanuts I planted don’t grow! Thank you so much for suggesting it! 😘🌸💕

    I think that clearing the allotment is like a right of passage. You can tell if someone is serious about their plot if they take the time to clear it. We have had people on our site that are super excited to start but after a few weeks of digging and clearing they just stop coming and eventually give up. I guess it’s not for everyone but we love it.❤

    • @plotno.9
      @plotno.9  6 місяців тому +1

      You are so right Adam. Since I did the video, the lady spoke to me again asking me where on the allotment site she could put all the unwanted weeds and soil. I told her that the only way was to put it in her car and take it to the dump. She was horrified! When I asked if it was her first allotment, she then told me they already had it for a year but they found it difficult to find the time to come so they haven’t cleared it yet. After I told her about going to the dump I haven’t seen them back since. I think she has a glamorous idea of having an allotment that doesn’t fit reality. Such a shame! We came back absolutely covered in mud and manure today but we were so happy to finally get some time on the plot as we had a small window without pouring rain! Yes, we do love it! 😘🌸💕

I researched when I should grow them and February/ March came out on Google. I would move them to the polytunnel if they grow but I really don’t think my saved seeds will. I will plant the ones I bought a bit later so it is warmer when they grow. At the moment the nights are colder at around -1/ 0 degrees. During the day it is an average of 7 degrees. Depositing your kitchen scraps in the bins, are a big factor in attracting rats/mice/critters/insects/stench. I know folks do it, but one just has to balance the pros and cons of doing it, according to many factors. It's a great thing to compost and recycle garden waste, so it's certainly nice to see you doing just that.

      Thank you Ali! Let me know if you want me to send you a packet. I don’t know if peanuts would grow well in Canada. 😘💕🌸
