Solo Bushcraft Overnighter in the Mountains

- The weather begins to warm as the seasons shift.
I spend two days out in the Canadian Rockies carving, cooking, and camping.
Meals:
Lunch- Bannock
Two handfuls of all-purpose flour, a small scoop of salt, and two pinches of baking powder are mixed together. Water is then added to make a thick dough. The dough is worked into a long snake-like shape, then wrapped around a debarked dry stick. It is placed over the coals for about 45 minutes, rotating often to allow for an even cook. Once the bannock is nicely browned it is eaten off of the stick with a small jar of raspberry jam.
Supper- Pork cutlets with boiled potatoes
Pork cutlets are dredged in flour, salt, pepper, and garlic powder (season to taste preference). After the first dredge they are dipped into whisked egg and then coated in bread crumbs. I allow them to sit for 20 minutes after they are done being battered. After they sit they go into hot oil for 2 minutes on each side. Be careful, if your oil is too hot the bread crumbs burn very easily.
The potato is peeled then cubed, then placed in boiling water with a few pinches of salt until tender. Finished with a sprinkling of salt and pepper.
Breakfast- Muffin with butter
For breakfast I brought a muffin I made at home, heated up by the fire, then placed butter on it. I did not have enough time to make a nice breakfast, but the muffin was quite tasty.

My husband just walked in and asked why I was watching a bearded man cook in the forest 😂 because it’s super relaxing!!
Valerie Smith 😂 That's what I should've named my channel. "Bearded man in the forest" hahaha.
Thanks for watching, I appreciate it. Take care!
Valerie Smith lol I watch these videos coz they help me go to sleep so relaxing and I imagine being cold and getting warm by a fire
You know exactly who you are man.
Did I just find my new favorite bush craft channel?
The table was cool, the mug excellent, and the pipe outstanding!
Dave Markowitz Thank you very much for your kind words! It really means a lot. Have a great weekend!
Canadians are killing it with the bushcraft channels lately. Joe, Justin Barbour, Nomadic Woodsman, and now Ryley Kusk! Love it! 🇨🇦

@@CoastalCarpentry that's what it's called....now ;)
Don’t forget Matthew Posa he has a Canadian accent but I think he is from and camps out in northern Michigan with his Collie dog and just wings it. He cooks up some good meals too.And a shout out to T/A outdoors too from the U .K. There pretty good too!
That table was ingenious
I have got to say that chicken and potato looked delicious , all washed down with a nice cold beer next to a roaring fire ....bliss !

Finely see camper making himself a table, out in the woods , nice.
Gotta admit - first bushcraft video I've seen in years where smoking is included. Also, I want to have beer in a tree mug now. 😳
Paul Schortemeyer Nothing beats puffing a pipe next to a fire. 👍 Beer tastes 10x better when you drink it from a wood mug I found out haha. I'd definitely recommend it. Thanks for watching, take care!
Watch climber bushcraft. He’s the reason why I’m curious of pipe smoking lol
Awesome table! Love some bannock & jelly! One my favs! Cheers👍🏼🍺
73 Forge Outdoors Can't beat a good campfire bannock. 👍
Thanks for watching! Take care.
That beer mug is truly awesome - thanks for your hard work!
I watch these at like 4am and legit can't sleep because I get excited about eating breakfeast foods
Ingenious Ryley. The table, the cup and the pipe , amazing. Isn’t there just something really satisfying about drinking a good ale from a wooden cup? Another great video fella.
Jason Reynolds First time I've drank ale from a wood mug before, it's absolutely delicious! Adds a very nice flavour.
Thank you very much for watching, take care!

Patrick Bryan Outside Thank you for watching!
Ok, you got me, I’m a fan! When you made yourself a flake tobacco pipe I was impressed! If you ever make yourself a martini glass you’ll be the Dean Martin of the mountains🍸
Watching this in amazement at the fact you made a table out of a log and a couple sticks. Wonderful stuff!
What a great trip! You have about as much snow still hanging around as my area of Eastern Ontario. That strange spring mix of bare ground in some places, and still deep pockets in others. Your multiple camera angles were really well thought out, and the editing was top notch! Every little story of the trip unfolded on the screen without the need for narrative. Looking at the comments, it appealed to folks, no matter what language their mother tongue is. Very cool to see that amount of Bushcrafting on an overnight trip, most folks reserve that level of build for longer stays or semi-permanent base camps. Having an auger saves on cordage and time, plus opens up a lot of possibilities on what projects to take on at camp. If pipe making is something you enjoy, see about picking up a spoon bit for the auger. It makes smooth holes with round bottoms, no pilot screw dimple in the bottom either. Originally used for boring blind holes in chair making but the shape of the hole is perfect for pipes! Also used when boring angles since it can start a hole on a much steeper angle than a spiral auger bit. Thanks for making the efforts and telling the story!
Perfect video as always, your camera placement is top notch
The dishes are great
Love thoses videos
Lol. I love how a few choice individuals had something to say about smoking. So you come back and make a pipe and smoke it. Great on you!!! You are very crafty and another excellent video my friend. Cheers.

Great video. No preaching. Great cooking & camp skills. One comment on the pine needle tea. Bruise the pine needles before you add them to the pot. Adds more flavor & vitamin C to the tea.
Lloyd Evans Thanks for watching!
I'll definitely try that next time I make some needle tea, thanks for the tip.
