  • A look at the Hornby HM7000 Bluetooth & DCC Sound Decoder, installing it in a Class 91 and trying out the HM|DCC App on an iPhone.
    21/06/23 Hornby launched the HM|DCC App for Android, so comments in the video saying the App only works on iPhone are no longer valid.

    Very good review and tutorial. All clearly described. Thanks for posting. Just a small disappointment was that we didn't see it running on a track. It would be nice to see if the motor control is good. Is it smooth? How is slow running performance? Thanks.

      Thanks for the comments Vivian. I thought the video was getting too long so didn't do any video of the track running which in hindsight I can see would have been a good idea. So far I have been pleased with the way it all works and will try and put a short video up of the loco running on my track. At the moment the main downside of the decoder for me is the lack of available sound 'profiles' so while changing the sound is straight forward there is a lack of available choices (for example the Class 91 sound file is not due to be available until the end of the year).

    Hi Stephen. Great video on the new decoders, I’ve just ordered one to try myself. You said that you found release dates for upcoming sound profiles, where did you find it? Thanks 😊

      Hi. Sorry about the delay in responding. I found the dates here support.hornby.com/hc/en-gb/article_attachments/8280166052892/Available_Profiles_for_HM_DCC__31-3-2023_.pdf

    Very clear review. Looks a very good and competitive product. One question I have is one you touched on, can you control multiple locos off one android or apple device?

    • @AndrewH561
      @AndrewH561  Рік тому

      Hi. Apologies for the delay in responding. Using Engine Driver on Android you can control up to 6 locos (depending on the Throttle layout you select). RT Drive Dcc++ on the Android basically allows you to create a roster and then you can switch between locos for control (but I haven't tried it in anger yet). Train Driver on the iPhone seems to support up to 3. Of course there are other apps and I am still working through them (just the ones that are free).

    My HM7000 21-pin on Class 91 was burnt out after playing less than 10 times. I think it has some unknown design issue which has not been solved yet.

      That does not sound good. May be worth contacting Hornby.

      Hmm I’m not sure. Are you using the HM|DCC app? I assume you aren’t using DC. Probably best to contact Hornby.

      Ps: probably worth checking CV29 setting (I believe it should be 34 for 128 speed steps)

    Hi Stephen. I enjoyed your presentation style and the content; however, I was disappointed in the resolution of 480p. Is this because 1) your camera has a maximum resolution of 480p; 2) there was an error in setting the resolution; 3) your editing software cannot cope with anything above 480p; 4) your broadband connection cannot cope with anything above 480p; or 5) UA-cam somehow limited the resolution (I guess this to be unlikely)?

    • @AndrewH561
      @AndrewH561  Рік тому

      Hi Paul thanks for the comment. I’ll have to check on the resolution as I thought I’d done it in 1080p. I suspect the error is in the setting of the resolution.

    • @AndrewH561
      @AndrewH561  Рік тому

      Hi Paul thanks again for the comment. Having checked I can see the video that was uploaded to UA-cam was 1080p so I am not sure why it was showing as 480p for you (though if you downloaded it it could be UA-cam limiting the resolution). I'll continue to see if I can find anything else out.

      @@AndrewH561 I subscribe to many channels and *can* select to view them at anything up to 2160p resolution (although, the maximum that is watchable on my 1080p monitor is 1440p - weird!). So, maybe YT is "throttling" your videos for some reason.

    • @AndrewH561
      @AndrewH561  Рік тому

      Hi Paul could be. I uploaded 1080p so a bit baffled as to why you would only have 420p. Could be UA-cam is throttling my videos though I am not sure why. Anyway, thanks again for letting me know and I will just have to see if I can get to the bottom of it.

      Thanks Bob. I could only find the app for iPhone at the time I made the video. and I still can't find an Android version. Is it available now?
