Yup. My best friend growing up has Scottish heritage on both sides and her cousin was a champion piper. I've always loved the pipes and they always make me cry like a baby. Once, during a parade in a big city, I was just walking down the street and along came a pipe band and I had to run into a phone booth so no one could see me blubbering away. I called my friend up and had her listen. She was laughing at me and crying at the same time. Pipes, kilts, the hills full of heather (I was lucky enough to get to go to Scotland for 10 days to work in 1998. . . in the highlands) - it's just all so gorgeous. I even love good hagus! - and my background is Italian/German - and the Lord knows what else since we're generally all so mixed up now. ;)

I remember this day well. I was in Atlanta Georgia at the time, so it took a few hours for the sound to reach me, but when I did my coke turned into scotch, my fried chicken turned into haggis, and my jeans turned into tartan.

As a young boy in my pipe band (aged 11-16) I loved when after competing all bands would play in the 'massed bands' at the end of the day! Hundreds pipers nd drummers of pipe bands, playing together! What an incredible sound being in the middle of that, real goosebump moments! 🤯

You have no idea how amazing bagpipes sounds until you are next to a band of them. I class myself as English however my dad was born in Motherwell. Every time I hear a bagpipe I feel proud of my scottish heritage though.
