Tows a treat our 2600 kg caravan. Sooo! Stable on the road with Old Man Emu suspension. I plan to keep it for as long as possible. Beautiful car to drive and tow with.
My PX1 had the EGR delete and serviced it every 5k - 7k intervals along with every tank getting diesel additive. The 3.2 has done 230,000km and still drives like new.
As someone who regularly works on these, they are an absolute dogshit car, in ways you cant even imagine. Sure there's the transmissions blowing left right and centre, plethora of tennis ball sized holes blown in blocks, but then theres the 'ford-isms' they've deliberately built into the car to punish ford owners. Once such of these caught me out a coupke months ago on a customers car, which ran out of fuel and even after being filled would not start. Come to find out after some mucking around, if you run out of fuel in a Ranger or Everest, you have to do an OBD code scan and clear before the car will start again. This is one of mamy examples too... Why anyone would buy a Ford is beyond me.
I think the decay in Ford's quality, is more related to issues with suppliers mixed with reducing production costs. They had plenty of issues with quality control from their suppliers.
@@RogerM88 I disagree, the parts generally in my experience aren't what let's them down. It's the poor design, which they make next to no effort to correct year after year..
I love Toyota quality, but I have to say the PX2 Rangers interior is so much better looking, more comfortable, and more functional than the Toyotas of the same year. Heck, I think it looks better than the new Hilux interior.
I’ve got a 2011 Mitsubishi l200 from new and it’s only needed a clutch slave cylinder and a service every year and all it does is tow and it’s been a fantastic car. I’m going to change it next April to a Toyota hilux and hopefully it will be just as good. Looked at the fords but they have to many problems for me and I need reliability.

What about checking the drive belt tensioner ? There common an can cause alot of damage when the belt go's behind the crank pully and chew out the timing cover or the scrappy tin covered wheel nuts that are always mauled or the gearbox pump dying in the autos or when the battery is weak or disconnected the car immobilises itself and need to reset the computer with a scan tool? Or they take special 3 prong fuses that most parts shop have never heard of or checking the clutch pully on the alternator 4yrs alot of things missed in this video
Love my ranger, it’s a lot nicer inside then any other dual cab Ute.. it’s a lot nicer outside in my opinion too.. I’ve done more than 120,000kms in my old px1 and px3 combined..
What about the engine oil coolers the injector pumps piezo injectors timing cover leaks drive belt tensioners sagging and the list goes on im a diesel mechanic and the rangers are the most common car we see for major repairs including engine replacement

@AdmissionGaming mate IMO Triton is still the reliability leader. A position it has since the MQ. That 2.4 unlike the 2.5 before it is a gem. Bulletproof drive train with huge diffs, axles, CV's and same auto as Toyota (Aisin). I have heard of only a handful of head issues. Do you know for sure if the head issues are manufacturing faults or could they be related to servicing issues - overtorquing bolts etc. Cheers

As someone who works in the car industry and deals with allot of used cars. Almost everyone I have seen is on its second engine or on its way out. My step dad is a mechanic and had one in today with a blown engine which is pretty common for him apparently. Not saying all will do this but from my personal experience the majority will
Earlier models had the same design caliper twin piston . Because they all are made from iron they rust and cause uneven pad wear . Rear suspension is virtually same design . Front suspension is different
People trashing the Ranger as if they owned and experienced all of this. Fact of the matter is any any and I can't stress this enough. Any Ute can break. The Ranger is a solid platform. Yeah there are some problems (obviously like with any ute out there) but a solid ute non the less. Stop being a dick! Move on. Ps there is a reasons generations of families drive hillux or Rangers. Cause they are solid.
Discrediting other peoples bad experience only means you cannot live with the fact you own an unreliable dumb@ss vehicle. You chose it, you own it so live with it. Stop being a cry baby, its your decision, not ours.
Good advice. My brothers Ranger 3.2 fell victim to the EGR cooler failing and caused a heap of secondary issues.. He bought the car second and got talked into the extra warrranty. I couldnt believe that they actually paid out. $8k in repairs!
Support your local tow company and buy a Ranger, how can he say its the best platform available with a straight face it might be if you ignore reliability, build quality, ive never seen any other make get a ride on a tow truck so often. so many quality issues, they used crap metal in the auto valve bodys and thwy warp, shitty quality interior, a local ford dealer kept atleast two engines in stock at all times, rode past a fairly late model one parked on the side of the road a couple weeks ago, jokingly said to my mate ittl be fkd, on the way home it passed us on a tow truck😂.
I'm a towie aswell. You tow what is most sold in your area mostly. Alit if cockies have Mitsubishi as they're a good deal fir a farm truck. Guess what i tow alot of? Mitsubishi and holidaying/touring Toyota's and fords. Because everyone has one.

Another tip would be to install an aftermarket coolant level check to alarm you if coolant is low, lost an engine from a hose leak so it is cheap insurance!
I have a Ranger and I can guarantee without a shadow of a doubt it is the most reliable car for tailgating small cars in 80 km/h zones I have ever owned.

Lower ball joints are a very very common thing also, Done countless numbers of them.
Number 5 piston used to fail on some of the 3.2 engines and not to mention the manual gearboxes they are great ute to drive but I've been told by many mechanics not to buy one i will stick with my Dmax .
You learn a lot about being a mechanic when you own a Ranger but I don’t mind that one bit - Know my bus inside out now and have done the work to avoid the common issues + have the knowledge to fix anything else.
“It’s not that hard, I’ve seen the blokes that are good at it” 😂
Should do a video on the RG Colorado even if they don't make them anymore there still a popular rig.
I love my PX2 XLT. 150K and I have done an EGR cooler. This is normal. Expect 80-130 Ks for EGR failure. ECU tune. Transmission port valve upgrade and cooler. Remove bypass valve in transmission. Tows a treat our 2600 kg caravan. Sooo! Stable on the road with Old Man Emu suspension. I plan to keep it for as long as possible.
Beautiful car to drive and tow with.
Awesome video as always Jesse.
Why anyone would buy a Ford is beyond me.
they are a electrical nightmare. u have to have a expensive scan tool just to read faults. Will often thro codes which when cleared operates fine
I work on them all day and I think they are better then most Utes
I think the decay in Ford's quality, is more related to issues with suppliers mixed with reducing production costs. They had plenty of issues with quality control from their suppliers.
I’ve got a ford ranger and it is great however it is an earlier generation a pk ranger
@@RogerM88 I disagree, the parts generally in my experience aren't what let's them down. It's the poor design, which they make next to no effort to correct year after year..
Awesome video mate, absolutely love mine and had zero issues 💪🏼
I love Toyota quality, but I have to say the PX2 Rangers interior is so much better looking, more comfortable, and more functional than the Toyotas of the same year. Heck, I think it looks better than the new Hilux interior.
Toyota interiors in general are always a step behind the competition because the money is spent on the higher quality mechanicals.
Finally, some useful information.
We put a new 3.2 in one of ours you got to put a gear oil pump in them a deleat EGR
I’ve got a 2011 Mitsubishi l200 from new and it’s only needed a clutch slave cylinder and a service every year and all it does is tow and it’s been a fantastic car. I’m going to change it next April to a Toyota hilux and hopefully it will be just as good. Looked at the fords but they have to many problems for me and I need reliability.
new hiluxs are terrible shoulda bought a dmax
This channel has had a ranger on like two episodes and one of them I remember this exact quote "well the good news is, it's not a CV" just a blown trans. Lol
Bought mine new 2018, done 140,000km, engine oil every 10,000km autobox every 40,000km never had an issue, great tow vehicle, pretty good off road.
No tune on the engine, cooler on the gearbox = reliable.
Wish I watched this before I bought my px2 it’s been in the shop more then I’ve had it
'What are the common problems with the Ranger?' - 'Yes'
Didn't even list 1/4.of their failures and shit designs
motors are shit and blow up anytime any were

What about checking the drive belt tensioner ? There common an can cause alot of damage when the belt go's behind the crank pully and chew out the timing cover or the scrappy tin covered wheel nuts that are always mauled or the gearbox pump dying in the autos or when the battery is weak or disconnected the car immobilises itself and need to reset the computer with a scan tool? Or they take special 3 prong fuses that most parts shop have never heard of or checking the clutch pully on the alternator 4yrs alot of things missed in this video
When they split from mazda that's when the quality went downhill. The ford ranger wl or mazda fighter bravo series was a strong little pickup.
Love my ranger, it’s a lot nicer inside then any other dual cab Ute.. it’s a lot nicer outside in my opinion too.. I’ve done more than 120,000kms in my old px1 and px3 combined..
Loved my Ford Ranger bakkie! I now drive the Amarok 2.0 btdi but I will definitely buy a Ranger again
What about the engine oil coolers the injector pumps piezo injectors timing cover leaks drive belt tensioners sagging and the list goes on im a diesel mechanic and the rangers are the most common car we see for major repairs including engine replacement
3.2l known for dust
If u been on dusty road and u can't get over 80km check air filter
I fitted a K&N to mine. Have a spare filter ready to swap over all the time. 2017 PX2 150K
We had a fleet of 15 at work. 14 of them either blew a trans or an engine all within being 10years old or 300,000k
Bullhshit !
Why would you keep a work vehicle for that long, really bad business practice. Absolutely no tax advantage what so ever. I call bullshite..
@@steveb5382 lmao
fleet vehicles get flogged.
@@furedi8067 you aren’t wrong. But still.
PX2 and PX3 the stud plate on the torque converter like to shear off from ford using less rivets in the later years
I own 2013 6 speed manual ford ranger T6 malaysia spec until now it is still in good condition..depends on how the owner take care off it..spare part is easy to purchase..
The oil change thing is a big No for me and a design fault that should have be rectified. Not interested in Tech as it is just something else not necessary to go wrong. Like most brands if it is well maintained it will go for many many km and years of travel. Good review
Solid if you do the maintenance properly, have seen the fair share of Toyota and nissan in the shed
Not sure on the ranger but the Bt50 platform has an issue with diff lock wiring shrinking and snapping
A work mates Ford Ranger has gone through two gearboxes at $9000 each. Crazy!
I have GLS MQ 6 speed and does not miss a beat. Great car to buy
Not to mention they were one of the first four drives to come out with that rear differential lock
Pre dpf px2 is the pick of the litter
Yeah my mates got one, egr went, two starters and one clutch replaced but besides that been pretty good for 330k kms
And this month with the sale of a Ford ranger comes a tilt tray . Hired 1 for 6 weeks couldn't return it quickly enough
Second hand cruisers, Hilux’s and tritons are usually great if they haven’t been in the mines. Everything else usually fukkeddd
Tritons are shit mate, the new ones crack the head like no ones business and leak coolant like crazy. I wouldn't touch one, I'm a Nissan guy but the Hilux is the pick of the bunch IMO.
@@AdmissionGaming coolant is usually from split lines factory hoses are dog shit. Easy replacement.. decent Ute for what there worth
Cheers
Px1 was the 1st of fords good rangers , yep had issues they all did, Toyota's fords and Isuzu and nissan, only ford and Toyota have sorted
Just brought my first xlt manual 4x4, mint vehicle 👌 needs more power though
I have a 2011 Hilux 3.0 D4D with 2600000 kms on Ive had mates telling me to upgrade to a ranger, most of them have had isssues with their ramgers intercoolers turbos etc
I have had NO issues with my Hilux whatsoever.
I service on time every 10000 kms and use low Sulphur diesel
i have a 2018 ford ranger px2 fx4 special edition. ive never had any issues
Crank angle and also crank position sensor I had issues with before 80,000km
I bought new and never towed anything with the Ute
I had a PX2 Wildtrak with 2 inch lift and 31s
Owned px1 and 2 only had afew minor issues but fixed under warranty otherwise great ute I would have gone the next gen but the price was to expensive and end up with a current dmax
I’ll stick to my 09 UN BT50 thanks. They have their issues but so far so good.
As someone who works in the car industry and deals with allot of used cars. Almost everyone I have seen is on its second engine or on its way out. My step dad is a mechanic and had one in today with a blown engine which is pretty common for him apparently. Not saying all will do this but from my personal experience the majority will
you bloody legend this is the episode i needed!
Earlier models had the same design caliper twin piston . Because they all are made from iron they rust and cause uneven pad wear .
Rear suspension is virtually same design . Front suspension is different
Mine snapped the drive plate clean off the torque converter at 105 thousand km. Only a 6k fix.
I dont have one or want one but surely we have to consider the sheer volume.sold
People may say that about the 35 million VW Beetles sold between 1948 and 1980. Volume and popularity is one thing, reliability is another.
My son has a hilux 4 years old still under warranty now fighting toyota to fix the rust on the door sill
Custom Machine Works Barra/ZF Kit. BOOM done
Good advice. My brothers Ranger 3.2 fell victim to the EGR cooler failing and caused a heap of secondary issues.. He bought the car second and got talked into the extra warrranty. I couldnt believe that they actually paid out. $8k in repairs!
Thanks
I now what to look for on a ford ranger now.
Towie here. Hilux is just as common. Don't fall for the hate bandwagon
I'm a towie aswell. You tow what is most sold in your area mostly. Alit if cockies have Mitsubishi as they're a good deal fir a farm truck. Guess what i tow alot of?
Mitsubishi and holidaying/touring Toyota's and fords. Because everyone has one.
@@sloth_e 100% accuracy. I towed mostly Toyotas. Since they have the market is country SA. Simple numbers.
My 2018 xlt just done the intake manifold and glow plugs, which they think may have cause EGR valve to stick open, under warranty and getting fixed now, mine is a space cab and tows our camper trailer (1850kgs dry ) like its not even hooked on, had its 18 months and other than servicing ive done nothing too it.
Another tip would be to install an aftermarket coolant level check to alarm you if coolant is low, lost an engine from a hose leak so it is cheap insurance!
@@harrywalker968 you have a heat gauge which only picks up that it has overheated after all the coolant has gone :/
I have a Ranger and I can guarantee without a shadow of a doubt it is the most reliable car for tailgating small cars in 80 km/h zones I have ever owned.
This reminds me of me 2015 Ford Fusion SE I had for 5 years, even has the same digital tachometer... It was such a clunker couldn't wait to get rid of it only had 90k miles
You didn't mention that the 2 litre diesel employs a wet belt design... future catastrophe.
Ford now say change belt every 6 years…a mate changes his Land Cruiser chain every 100 000 km.. part of owning some vehicles.
Pumping up a ranger how do you sleep at night lol
@@fromjarrod From a Ranger owner, I sleep like a baby.
260, 000km on mine , Jarrod maybe tell your mate with the FKed Ranger to service it more regulary
@chrisgomez3078 Exactly, I service mine ever 10k including diesel filter. If you do that and bypass the EGR cooler, you got a reliable vehicle. People need to stop complaining and look after their utes, and they'll look after you.

No mention of aircon actuators hey. Any ranger owner, or any one whos looked on a Ranger forum the thing thats asked the most is whats fhis clicking noise behind the dash... 3.2 ltr manaul has to be the best combination in the Rangers for power, towing & economy.
Do a video about how to clean engine bays on 4wd and cars
The Mazda bt 50 uses the same drive line and chassis only the outer skin is different
140000 km no problems. But now the shit starts.Clutch etc making noices
I have work car px2 200km just reached its 2018 model dose well besides the sensors
Get rid of the time bombs within the vehicle and they might prove reliable which I have done at 92.500ks nearly at 100k now 2016 model only have a couple of things to be concerned about now which is the plastic intercooler , torque converter adapter transmission thermal bypass . When I start towing I’ll take care of those ‘ thermal bypass is another time bomb asap
Good work Jesse this was Awsome
