    I am glad to see someone showing the life in these little overlooked holes. I have 21 years in the state conservation department and the places where we have found fish living is always a head scratcher.

      Fish eggs get stuck to the legs and feet of birds walking along the banks of lakes and streams and then are deposited in other water sources, like retention ponds etc.

    • @Rose.Of.Hizaki
      @Rose.Of.Hizaki 2 роки тому

      I think its the fact that they are overlooked that gives them life. heavily urbanised environments (which can often lead to pollution and contaminants leaking into the river) and overfishing can be quite detrimental to fish stocks - even if you do catch and release there are a lot who dont.
      some fish just manage to find places where nobody can touch them or fishes there and thrive even if the overall quality of water isnt that great.

    Carp are put in ditches and creeks to keep vegetation eaten down and the waterway unobstructed. An unobstructed drainage ditch means no flooding, but, don’t let that stop your netting them for bait.

    For those of you who have never eaten carp you are missing out on some of the best fish I've ever eaten. My neighbor was from Iraq he went fishing and carp is what he brought home. I was curious so I asked him if it was good. He responded that carp is a delicacy in Iraq. He cooked one on the grill and brought it to us with homemade pickled peppers and naan. I don't like fish in my tacos but if it's a white fish and not too strong I'd try it. We used to sell the ones we caught on corn to the older Russian ladies who worked for my papa. Cast netting seems so fun but Utah has sooo many rules for bait.

    About 20 years ago I was casting in a resevoir in Georgia and I thought I was stuck on a log. My uncle helped me pull out the biggest carp I have ever seen. I have read that they are really good to eat if you do it right. I guess one way is to pick the meat out with chopsticks. North Koreans eat it raw. I personally won't eat fresh water fish raw unless it's for survival. I haven't tried it but I will one of these days. I guess the scales are like armor. I just chuckled a little bit because I know some people from Burma that would be upset seeing you use them for bait. They eat parts of the fish that I would consider unheaalthy.

    Are there any laws against using cast nets in Texas?

    • @wildlifefishingshow
      @wildlifefishingshow  Рік тому +1

      Regulations, yes. Size of net, what you can or can't keep, what you can do with the fish caught in it, etc. So not really 'laws against it' but 'regulations on it.'

    Are carp invasive species?

    • @wildlifefishingshow
      @wildlifefishingshow  3 роки тому

      Depends on the variety. The common carp is considered naturalized (introduced but not harmful) whereas the grass carp is still listed as invasive.
