I must admit I watched that scene multiple times. Not bc I enjoy watching your misery😂 but rather bc I’m always in awe of the sheer strength and power they have. Especially the initial impact of the beginning of the hook set, not only rocked you but the entire kayak as well. Pretty cool, close to being epic, but part of playing the game! Great video.

Got 8 smallies yesterday on top water popper.. Having crazy record setting highs weather. In Ohio,70⁰ in practically January,is unheard of.. Biggest was about 3 pounds.. You should take a tube or small bottle of super glue with you whenever you go fishing, keep it in your tackle box or something, but that stuff is really good for cuts and things, squeeze a little across your cut and it will seal it up and take the burning, stinging and pain out of it right away. I found out about years ago whenever I fished for flatheads, whenever you hold them up by the lower jaw, the inside part of its jaw, lip, whatever is sharp as a blade and will lay you wide open. Anyhow I’ve healed up a many of cuts with super glue, and the brand doesn’t make any difference, just cheap super glue works as good as the brand name.
It's amazing what you can catch in three feet of water! We live in Indiana. We fish in White River where the average depth is 4-5 ft. Of course there are deep holes 8-10ft every now and then. But we have caught plenty of 50-plus Pounders out of four feet of water or less.
I truly enjoy Spence's back n fourth with good friends like Denny and Ryan reminds me of my buddy's/brothers they give and take and its always a competition and tons of laughs! Life is good with great friends and fishing especially off kayaks ! Thanks Spence👍👍👍👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸⚾⚾⚾🎣🎣🎣🎣
Nice Feesh Bubs! Spence the Feesh cut me, Denny laughs that's a buddy doesn't ask how bad but just laughs! And then he caught a bigger Feesh ,does Denny know This Means War? C'mon Baseball!
Holy wow that was an awesome bite. Sucks you didn't catch it but damn that was a hell of a bite. I thought that fish was going to yank you clear out of that boat.
Spencer I'm just now watching this one and I use 60 lb big game trailing Berkeley and to see yours get snapped like that quick and fast I was confident now I'm not so sure
Must have been really big to break your leader like that oh well there will be more chances next Summer. How I wish Summer was a year around proposition. I need to be in the warmth. I need to be able to sit on the bank and pass the time looking for Charlie and his other friends! Great Video Spenser!
That one is sure to make you loose sleep. Hell, I bet you’re having nightmares about it. Great video, Spencer. Thanks for sharing the good and the not so good.
@@RiverCertified no problem man it was a real game changer for me, and I forgot to put it in my bag last time I went out, and a pike shredded the palm of my hand 5 min into fishing, was bad, I kept fishing tho 🤦♂️😂
Man that fish you lost was a dandy! That thing was pulling like a freight train, that sucks so bad bro. But you win some, you lose some, still here to try again another day!
Just got my first kayak. Gona try some of your brush pile methods. Looking forward to it except for the big snakes I imagine living in those piles. Lol
It's really fun man, just be super careful if there's any current at all. It's definitely something to work up to after a lot of practice. Those log jams are more dangerous than the snakes that live in them.
I have pulled some big channel cats from spots like this I'm talking 17 pounders. Biggest channel cat I ever caught was about 9ft of water in a fast flowing to river though. It was 24 pounds.

Nice work you guys. Found them for sure. Go back for that first one the next day. What the heck did you slice it on? his gill plate? You all have a load of FlatHeads out that way. Nice trip.
So I'm trying to figure out these brush piles but I live in Georgia so my river is the Chattahoochee River and it's hard to find deep wholes from the bank so obviously I need a boat but what would you suggest for bank fishing rivers?
Favorite way to fish in my Northern California backwoods sloughs is 10 ought circle hooks 2 ounce egg weight 65 pound braid and logjams with a fat ball of duck guts from the local shop gets it done
This type of fishing is my favorite that i see you do. Hand to hand combat. Be nice to that guy Spencer, his parents named him Denny for crying out loud.
Hey Spencer, sucks that you lost that first fish! Have you experimented with tying on a longer and/or thicker leader? Fluoro or Mono in the 80-100lb range, about 10-20ft (maybe shorter)? Could still connect your mainline braid to the leader with a FG or PR bobbin knot, then tie whatever rig you're using to the end of the leader (say a knocker or carolina rig). Or do you max out at 60lb leader since you're on a kayak and need to be able to manually break off rigs? Another thought, have you thought about incorporating saltwater rods and reels into this style of logjam fishing? I was thinking that a short but stout halibut rod with an Accurate or Avet conventional reel would make a killer combo for horsing out flatheads from thick cover.
The braid isn't the issue, it's almost always the leader that breaks. I've bumped up from 50 to 60 lb leader, but 80 is such a bear to break from a kayak I quit using it. I've used super stout rods in jams before, but the stiffer the rod, the more missed fish I seem to have.
Merry Christmas and Happy New years to your family and friends too🎄⛄🎉 we used to take a cane pole with a line and a hook with a worm on it and go up down and caught some catfish and spots like that
What river is this in Iowa? It is really tiny. I find it amazing that all those flatties live in there. We've got a bunch here in Georgia (actually the world record on rod n reel came from about 1.5 hours south of me on the altamaha river. I've been to the exact spot. It looks like the frickin Amazon.) but they are in our bigger rivers. This is considered a creek where I live.
I like Wiskerseeker tackle except those rolls of leader line! Trilene big cat for leader line is way more abrasion resistant. That’s my unpopular opinion. Your up close snag videos are still my favorite looks like a good time 👍
@@RiverCertified Got one and lost two! Tried for a long while in different spots. No lie I started thinking man that stuff on UA-cam never works here. Two more an I give up for the day. Are you monofilament? 60lb monofilament will break easy I use 60lb braid from a bait shop and I tell you I am not afraid of it breaking at all I have snagged on something and damn near broke my pole or pulled my self in by realling and yanking on it.
