It's great to see the possibilities. This is a good option for limited runs or prototyping, but obviously the next step is taking that file and having it machined out of steel. Even if you don't have that capability in-house, with the various online fabrication services anyone can send a file out and receive the finished product.

Exactly, it is a new world in manufacturing. If you need one or two, send it out. If you do this daily, look into options like these.

I was able to stamp my company logo into 22 gauge galvanized using PLA printed dies. It worked pretty well!

Thank you! We always learn from projects like this and from working through ideas with customers. I'm glad we were able to share this one!

Very interesting video, thanks for sharing. I have good success with 3D printed tools using just PLA and 100% infill on a 50 tonne press brake. The key for me was to make the 3D printed tooling fit inside a large radius steel bottom tool so that it was supported all around. The top tooling was also well supported, but that is hard to describe. I got very good results with 2mm steel, but I was making specific curvatures, not the kind of detail you're doing.

Nice work! As we have been experimenting and learning with these videos others have shared their success stories too. We are excited to see how far we can go with printed tooling!

maybe adding metal rods to that die will help against rocking (just print lil bit langer piece and print or bore holes)

That is a great idea! Hybrid approaches are a great way to increase strength using cheaper materials while also reducing the amount of material we have to print. Sounds like a great topic to explore in our next set of design iterations.

Let me know when they can 3D forge.😂

Mark... FORGED? Yea, OK, not true forging yet. Metal additive manufacturing is exploding though, and you could absolutely build high strength metal molds and tools for forging operations.

@MLCCADSystems It was a joke. But I was getting it was you can't just 3D print anything because sometimes strength is a major issue.
