How To Use ORIGINAL N64 Controllers on Nintendo Switch + Remap

  • Hi, this video shows you how to use original N64 controllers on the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack. I also show how remapping is possible. Nintendo do have a nice N64 Wireless controller ,but as of now remapping is not possible on that either. This video is just for a bit of fun to show that it is still possible to use the original controllers from 1990s.
    I will update with a link to using the original Sega Mega Drive / Genesis on the Switch as soon as it is filmed.
    Many thanks, Vince.

    Excellent! Now someone's gotta figure out how to do the opposite. Would love to use the brand new wireless controllers on original N64 hardware.
    Edit: There's now an adapter out there that does exactly this and more! For those wondering, it's called the BlueRetro Receiver.

    Thanks, Vince!
    Just to clarify some things:
    There are two different N64 to USB adapters by Mayflash. The first one Vince shows is the MF-103, a plug-n-play version that immediately works with the Switch. It's relatively new and designed when the N64 expansion service was announced. I believe the firmware CAN BE UPGRADED. Vince, maybe make a quick video showing this?
    The second Mayflash N64 adapter is an older but cheaper one, the PC043. It's only designed for PC, but the Titan One converts and combined the "PC input" to one Switch Pro controller, and controls can be remapped in software. You need extra Titans per controller if multiple players are needed, so this is more of a novelty solution than a practical one.

    @My Mate Vince: the real maping for the N64 controler, it is A for accelerated and B for brake, Z, or c down to used item, C up to zoom out, and I don't remember if it c right or left to change the display R to drift, and L for music track, press once for lower volume, press twice to have the music track muted, press L again when music track muted, to get back the music. Their is no music track for 3 to 4 player.

    I remember the thumb stick with some frustration as they invariably failed over time on the earlier sticks and Smash Bros my kids mullered the thumb stick so badly I took the game away in the end as buying controllers was expensive and in a time when replacement sticks just didn't exist. The sticks back then were packed with a kind of chalk powder which was weird and I am guessing it was like french chalk acting as a lubricant and a shock absorber to keep the stick nice in there.

    • @hb1108
      @hb1108 2 роки тому +2

      The quarter teaspoon of chalk powder was caused by the stick grinding against the gears and the surface of bowl. Overtime it made stick and gears loose and killed the controller, that was the major problem with the controller. Gamers these days apply a plastic friendly grease to the bowl and gears to slow down the wear

      Yeah it wasn't really their fault. It was a design flaw with the controller.

    does this work 100% like an n64 controller would on an n64? or are some buttons different?

  • @anthonyjobson
    @anthonyjobson 2 роки тому +1

    Hi Vince. Can the console tuner (Titan One) be programmed to map n64 C-Right and C-down to a combo of buttons presses emulated as pro controller on the Switch via USB?
    Switch Online Ocarina of Time has ZR+A mapped to C-Right and ZR+B as C-Down which makes it hard to play.
    I can't remap in the switch button remapping because it's two button presses so i hoped the PC programmed Consoler tuner you showed here might be the answer.
    I want to map the game exactly as the old N64 had them. As I've read so far it's only possible on the sold out Nintendo N64 controllers. Perhaps you could test for the community?
