Me too - this is what sent me to the comments - figured for sure I was missing something when he started talking about decking himself and not having the Chandra as a wincon..
That play in match 1, when you cryptic your mystic to put time warp ontop and hit it off chandra to cast with fires was SUCH a line and I was very impressed. You're awesome, deck is gas, so cool
similiar to my favorite play in standard fires deck, faerie for planar cleansing, destroy your own fires and play out your hand, kinda time warp ish, ofc in modern the value plays are so much more vast
Fun fact: The Chandra in the thumbnail isn't in the deck. Edit: They have since edited the thumbnail with the correct Chandra. Should've left it for the meme.
I have been eagerly anticipating this video since the second I saw LSV the list and results it put up. This might be the single sweetest deck in the entire game in any format right now.
A. Velderrain All the other ones have basic land types, and they’re all pretty bad Magic cards. I think a big part of it is that instants and sorceries are inherently more powerful than most other cards because they’re one-shot effects. Recurring instants and sorceries is powerful. I think without the land type, Sanctuary would still be fairly good, but it would be limited more to Standard and EDH. Of course, the land type is what pushes it from “fairly good” to “stupid.”
At 15:00 there is a lethal line with Chandra ult, cast one of the three mana spells off fires, cast cryptic bouncing fires and then the third spell for three mana. Cool deck and I appreciate the quality content!
Awesome video! I had a fun turns list using many of the same cards but with As Fortold for the engine to break savor the moment and abuse the suspend cards, ancestral vision and wheel of fate. Fires seems so much better for that!
I think you'd be right to cut Jace Beleren for another Chandra. With fires and sanctuary, she looks even better in this deck, than she does in prison. She is somehow the most pushed mythic, that only really seems to fit in nonsense decks.
"I mean they didn't force me to do anything, so I didn't. But I definitely had the option to try to go a little faster - I just didn't have to." Holy molly that's way to savage for my lukewarm tea at this late hour.
The play at 14:40 was awesome, though I believe you had deterministic lethal by ultimating Chandra, cast jace with fires, cast cryptic with fires, bounce the fires, play land play dictate for 15 damage.
I could see narset’s reversal being a strong card in this deck, can be a piece of early interaction or you can use it on your own time warps on a combo turn
Hey LSV this is my favorite deck of yours, can you bring it back some time with some upgrades? Maybe those extra copies of Chandra you thought would be good?
Don't forget that Fires of Invention restricts you to casting spells on your turn, not just at sorcery speed. There was a moment in one of the games where you cast time warp and howling mine through fires of invention with a dictate in hand. Cast the dictate on your own upkeep there to get a card immediately!
I personally like playing these fringe decks. Last time I ran modern I was doing something similar to this so with this in my head I may have to rethink and try this out as my new version of it
At 26:05 Is there no milage in taking Dictate over Mine so you can flash it in upkeep and draw an extra card? Sure Narset gives you more options but you're almost always going to want to play a howling mine effect that turn right, so why not take the extra card
@@XoIoRouge if our opponent is siding in artifact hate for mind stone against us with this deck, we are in a great spot. We dont NEED to go off on our third turn, but mind stone gives us that and a card draw, where guide doesnt give us a draw or re-usable mana. Mind stone is great when we want to cast turn 3 fires, but if it sticks around it also lets us play our extra turn spells one turn sooner than we might be able to with fires. (A time warp with only 4 lands in play, for instance) its a strict upgrade, in my opinion. I would love it if my opponent sided in hate for mind stone, especially artifact removal. We can still crack it in response but also it means they wont use it on howling mine which draws us even MORE cards. In essence, mind stone is great, but not necessary to win, so if our opponent uses up slots in their deck to hate on it, im not mad. Thats four less actual threats in their deck, potentially.
30:40 if LSV got back “exhaustion” and cast it and passed, he would have won right? Because opponent did “Summoners Pact”? Edit: I just finished watched … he won like that unwittingly 🙄 HE CANT KEEP GETTING AWAY WITH IT!! 🤣
This looks like an actually fun combo deck that doesn't need a perfect hand to win. Maybe having a breeding pool and a bunch of Veil of Summers would be nice, the deck looks really rough versus discard.
@@myztik5716 if they turn 1 discard away your interaction and turn 3 lily youre kinda screwed, you can't bolt her so if you can't counter her it's pretty much game unless you top deck like a god

@30:35 & 31:02, you should have got back Exhaustion to kill them on the spot via their Summoner's Pact trigger. Or @32:30 just cast the one you drew. Edit: Ahh, see you stumbled into it XD
So a 1/1 creature, a +1/+1 counter, a food token, a slow raise dead or a free extra turn spell... good to see WoTC going back to their roots with colour cycles.
It costs so much mana though. Just to equal one turn with Mine you'd need to spend an additional 2 mana. Folio gets good once you have the Fires in play, but before the Fires comes along it's a lot worse.
Against U/W around 16:40. You definitely should have ult’ed Chandra the second time you put time warp on top because it was guaranteed lethal by drawing it with jace and casting it. Obviously didn’t make a difference in the end but don’t want open up a chance to lose a game where you had lethal.
So I'm sure there's a reason for it and I'm not super caught up on the format, but.... wouldn't Jace, Vryn's Prodigy be good here? I would think it would be better than Jace Beleren but I could be mistaken. I'd also consider running the bolts in the sideboard - it feels like you would main deck either 0 or 4, 2 seems awkward.
on 14.41 you can Emblem Chandra, play land, cast jace - deals 5dmg, cast cryptic with bounce fires mode - deals 5dmg and play dictate to keil your opponent.
Sounds... bad? This deck really doesn't need a 5 Mana card that's off the combo. This is Modern, just because this deck powered through a great 5-0 on video doesn't mean it's not on the clunky end already and that would make it clunkier.

Round 2: 16:51

That filthy Exhaustion win. How does he keep getting away with it?
32:55 LSV, the guy trolling so much he wins without anticipating it. Priceless.
That pact win was priceless
When LSV's 2nd grade teacher scolded him about needing to learn to take turns...LSV rebelled and decided to take ALL the turns!

That whole turn I was screaming at my computer - Exhaustion and pass!! lol, glad it ended up going that way.
This is the coolest deck in modern now.
I'm so baffled that cycle is fetchable, as if blue fetches thanks to brainstorm and jave weren't already among the strongest lands in magic.

I think it's because she's such a toolbox. Nonsense decks need glue, not bombs. Short on cards? Nbd. Mana? Have some! Win condition? Right here baby.
This is impressively demoralizing. This made me smile thanks
