In this series we explore what luck can do for you in War Thunder, sometimes it can make all the difference in this otherwise very skillbased game.
Today its time to fly out the P-38L in a Realistic Battle. It has been in the game, and it sits at br 4.7. The P-38L-5-LO has been a unique heavy fighter in history. I flew out a few matches the other night, lets see how it went. Hope you enjoy :)

Hey guys, got the 4th episode of my As Luck may have it series for you today, in which we fly the P-38L. Some great defensive flying in there, defying a fire, and killing with only one wing ;) Hope you enjoy the episode :) if you did, do like comment and subscribe. I dont have it yet ;) im a normal human with a job and a kid and all the other stuff that is life, i cant grind this stuff out in less then a week like some do ;) If i get 5-6 games on any particular day im happy.

That guy who was running off at the mouth to you. I had him on my team the other day. He was stealing kills and mocking me for not having any kills. I told him I only had assists because he kept stealing my kills. He got mad that I spoke the truth, and as I was on final approach to land at the base and reload - he team killed me. So I reported his ass for a deliberate team kill. I have not seen him since. I hate people like him. They truly disgust me. Anyway, back to the topic. I hate twin engine fighters. I find them too bulky and too difficult to play. I prefer fast and highly maneuverable fighters. Therefore, I rarely if ever, take out a twin engine fighter. Good match.
Michael R. Foreman i hate people like that as well, i mean who doesnt? What i have noticed is that there are lots of teamkilling asshats lately, especially in tier iii Allied teams. I mean who does that? Who has joy in ruining other peoples experience?

The P-38 is not your average twin-engine fighter :)
There is accidental team killing. Which usually occurs when some moron is trying to steal a kill and, gets in the way. Then there are the ones who are living brain donors/ mental midgets, who do it deliberately. I make a point of reporting those who deliberately team kill. I have in addition, on far too many times witnessed the one doing the team killing are people of authourity within Gaijin (they work for Gaijin is some capacity). They seem to think they are above the law. I make a special point of raising hell about them directly to Gaijin.
you should try the P-38L, it doesnt feel like a twin engined fighter :)
So I knew I had some fundamental flaw in the way I dogfight that lead me to have more losses than victories in each dogfight, and watching this video finally made me realize my flaw: I never aim my circle at a target once they are on my 6. I was wondering how you were maneuvering and looking at the enemy at the same time and now I realize that you're maneuvering in the direction of the enemy plane to perform better maneuvers, know where the enemy is, and get your guns on target faster. As soon as I realized this I jumped into War Thunder and test flew to try to practice it. After practicing for 30 min I jumped into a match and I immediately noticed and improvement in my dog-fighting capabilities. I really want to say thank you for showing me that tip with the epic dog fight you had with that La-7. That was honestly one of the most intense matches I've ever seen in WarThunder. Well played and thank you. Now all I need to do is work on my aim. lol

arcade wont be good for these players either, as that takes skill and a willingness to improbve as well to perfect :)
Passive?? Well you just fly the p-38 like a good pilot should. Those dogfights are very nice mate. I am trying and trying to improve on that.

Hey JENGAR....The fact that you could fight that long against the La-7 in a P-38 was amazing. It was like watching a race against a corvette and a dually pickup truck but you still made that La-7 look bad. I bet he was so pissed he couldn't shoot you down quick!👍😎✈

Nice defensive flying. You always make it look so easy. I can hardly look around and maneuver at the same time. :D And boy was that some salt again in the chat.

Well well Mr J Engar. THAT was one of the most fun videos I have watched for ages. Well worth the entrance fee for sure. Some brilliant flying (not just from you, I hasten to add) and the comments... well. Invite him to another match and promise to turnfight in a 335, see if he accepts? Honestly, I swear that some people forget that ultimately it's a game. Pride yes, real machines and real lives lost, no!! Thanks anyway, great stuff.

Wow that was some great dogfighting! The guy in the chat must've really been frustrating to deal with though lol.... Always blaming something else for their own mistakes. As you said, those pilots will never improve because they can't acknowledge that they're the one who's flying badly.... As always, great video Jengar. I enjoyed it a lot! :)

The p-38 is modeled incorrectly in this game, it should be an absolute beast in this game considering how effective it was in combat in ww2 and beyond. No other aircraft could beat a p-38 with an experienced pilot.
i know, its unfortunate. Even as she is, she can be made to work miracles.

Sweet! I was affraid that we are going to get only italian videos from you till you done with the tree :). Also, taunting is a legit tactics. You admitted yourself that it worked on you, if you were a worse pilot, he would get you where he wanted you. The lesson you gave him is very satisfying :).
Do you have time to play any other games? Ive seen your Hearts of Iron videos, probably the least youtube friendly game ever made ;). Maybe you could show us a small compilation of your favourites?
Atm i play nothing else, i lack the time. But i love strategy games like HoI, although i liked 3 better then 4 ;) Civ 5 and 6 i also played. And other paradox strategy games like stelaris and EU4.
Then I can recommend Crusader Kings :). Its the Paradox best in my opinion :).
i've played that, didnt like it as much as most other paradox titles ;) cant argue taste :)

i didnt know it had airbrakes!!! i flew it out yesterday had 1 kill, now i have to fly it again. nice turn rate. i had a guy get mad at me for flying high. and he got jumped at sea level. i had fighters high i was engaging he shouldve climbed. goof ball.

Great video Jengar as always you don't disappoint . I have a quick question about your maneuvers that I think would help me tremendously. How are you able to keep a visual on your enemy while he's on ur 6 and still be able to perform maneuvers to get him off you may have a hard time understanding my question but @ 3:42 you execute exactly what i'm attempting to ask . thanks in advance for your feedback and again great content !!
Ty mark, you got to practice flying with keyboard while looking with the mouse. Activate camera with c and take over with the mouse. Practice this in testflights, then try it out in matches. This will cause you deaths a lot at first, but keep at it and you'll get better and better :)

I looked up that super salty player in the La-11... female player, best record in the La series of fighters, probably just used to USAF pilots trying to turn with her... damn people get salty when they go up against actual experienced players who know how to fight

I ended up accidentally teamkilling Murdoc today while flying my La-7B...I apologized to him and he threw a hissy fit but after watching your video I really shouldn't have :) I also think I've killed that Wickedile guy before...he went headon with my Meteor F4 in a mixed battle in his Hunter and he still lost...
Some people need to chill out when they don't just kill everything in one pass or, when they run into a player like you who knows what they are doing and make a mistake that gets their ass handed to them. Fights with good players are the ones I live for and the reason why I still come back to War Thunder every once in a while. I can understand why some people don't like losing, but they should treat it as a learning experience instead of being a fucking bitch and whinging about it so that they don't end up losing again by making what could very well be the same mistake that got them killed the first time.
Anyway, I hope you are doing well and I also hope that these people either suck it up and change their attitude or leave. And I would very much like to see the door hit their ass hard on the way out :)
more ppl should indeed see it as a road to an endgoal, and every bad moment as an oppertunity to learn. good point ;)
if you had held on the throttle for a little longer in the first engagement that guy wiuld have overshot. and i had a good laugh seing you turn fighting with a p38.

sure, application is free, we do have behaviour rules in the squadron ;) like we dont start flaming wars in chat, or attck ppl verbally for flying a certain way.

Yeah, it really bugs me that, even if the reports don't really mean anything, the turnfight "meta" is so baked into people's minds that to them not throwing an unsuitable aircraft balls-deep into it means you're a "coward" and "playing passively" and deserve to be reported. XD Great job slapping that whiner's shit, Jengar. Gotta love that fork-tailed devil. ;)
This long legged lady is indeed fantastic :) and that this is considered that way by a lot of ppl is unbelieveble, it tells us how much educating we still have to do.

LA7 for the mid to low altitudes, but the I-185 is good at higher altitudes. In the end i would prefer the la7 all round though.

Last First I'd do engine
Id do cover as that improves the overall handling and energy retention of the aircraft
thats what i was thinking... but cover is tempting too.... i got expert crew.. that helps lots with blackouts/and whatnot..
i went engine.. that 7.3 mps climb rate got me... but you might be right with cover being better first

Just testflown the P-38L. My god, this thing is amazing! It's fast, looks stunning, great climb rate, accelerates fairly well and rolls very good. I don't know how it can roll this well honestly. And it has airbrakes. Yes! airbrakes on a prop fighter! But it's landing gear is very fragile to be honest. But the question is, why the flying fuck does this plane not get spammed? But more importantly, why the ACTUAL flying fuck haven't i researched it yet?
It's not spammed, because most ppl try to turnfight with it at mid to low altitude ;) something its not made for. ppl die in it a lot, and conclude its crap, instead of learning to to fly it properly.
Jengar its really annoying. People dont climb and turnfight in US props.... sigh. Seeing a lawnmowing Mustang tilts me so hard, it doesnt matter if i play the Germans or Americans/Brits. And they always say something like "The Mustang could outturn a 109, this is BS, Gaijin pls nerf Germans, Gaijin pls lower the Br!"

It sucks that they nerfed that aircraft, I mean it's still viable but now it's way harder to fly, roll rate was reduced.
It CAN still fly one one engin, but of any part of the wing turns yellow your not gonna have an easy fly back to base.
The rudder is now a tiny bit retarded so that even at it's optimal speed the pilot will not use it to full effect while aiming, so good luck landing clean shots like Jengar here. Also I think this is also effected by the rudder, the roll on this thing is akward, when rolling flat, your nose will shift, meaning the roll of the aircraft is not even in the center of the aircraft (where it should be) and more so feels like it's above the cockpit, iv missed shots because of this.
It use to be a fun and pretty good plane, but now it's pretty much now a pure boom and zoomer.

I hate those American twin engine fighters. Strictly because they just eat 20mm. The last one I shot was a P-61 or P-63? Anyway I blew it's rudder in half and took a wing off and it still didn't die. I left him figuring he was a dead man but he managed to turn the plane around and someone kill stole him and I didn't even get the assist. Yet if I get my wing blown off in a 109 or so much as take a single 50 I'm set on fire or killed instantly. Not to mention some of them have back gunners. They're so annoying to play against.
None of the P-38s do NOT fit my play style and I always do miserably in them - therefore, I never fly them.

Hi Jengar - would you mind answering a question? Got my exam tomorrow and then a week's work and then I'm going to start playing. But I need to know a few things - like what you do with a roll rate? And why is it important? :)
Rollrate is the rate at which the plane can roll over its central axis. this is an important part of your maneuverability, you can change direction faster and react faster when ppl are on your six when your rollrate is high :)

Hi any advice on what fighter to start out with in realistic with the British?
Have been playing arcade on PS4 for years now have almost everything 5.3
And started to dip my toe in realistic.
(Even bought that premium spitfire was waiting for years for the 60% off and got it, but not flown it)
Been getting kills in the Beaufort but want to get back into a fighter soon and I think your guides a bit dated.
Any advice would be great, can't really change nations now crews are maxed out in most slots.
