If extending the front landing pad gets in the way of the flight transformation, then just relocate the extension studs when in flight. If that's too much of a hassle then you can instead shorten the rear pads. Shorter rears, though, leaves more weight resting on the engines in landed mode. The engine extensions can, in turn, be reduced with minor modifications. No matter what, the fact that this shipped with these really awkward and unnecessary quirks is a head-scratcher. This could have easily been set up to be flat when on the ground.
Exactly what I thought
Hi
Or you could add some wheels 😀
I'm not sure I understand the problem with the ship resting on the engines? Looking at it across the shows, it looks like the ship is almost entirely resting on the engines when landed, with a small landing gear at the front
On the front i added 2 round studs and 2 skate pieces. On the rear 2 open studes and some kind of piece i dont know what it is called. It looks a bit like ski's but with forked ends. Result: engine off the ground, stable on just the lamding gear and cockpit can still rotate
2 flaws eh? Not bad, not bad. Hey jang, what is THE most perfect lego set you’ve encountered or reviewed? I.e. say, the least or no flaws, fairly priced, well done, etc?
I think I remember his Imperial Shuttle Tydirium set review was very positive all the way through
I do remember he wasn't a fan that it didn't include a stand though
The spring lantern festival is without a doubt the best LEGO set of 2021. The only one in my collection where I have 0 complaints
Has to be Barracuda Bay
Think he really liked the QuadJumper
Probably the Pirates of Baracuda Bay…
the unnamed loyalist actually appears multiple times throughout the show (on different sides of the mandalore conflict, somehow), and i really appreciate LEGO for putting in the effort to make a specific figure, in stead of a random fighter. However i do wish LEGO goes back and makes another mandalorian battlepack containing death watch minifigures
They appeared on both sides because before Maul took over, they were all together. After that, Bo-Katan and people loyal to her escaped and remaining Mandos painted their armor black
I don't think lego will make any more Death Watch sets simply because the name contains the word... dare I say it... death...
I got this set the other day. One thing I can say is that if displayed in landed mode, then the wings should be swapped so that the studs face towards you.
Is that easy to do?
@@paulhawkins1514 yep, very. You literally just pull them off of the technic pins and swap them over
@@Ph4ntasm4l i was thinking that it was possible, but I don’t have the set yet 😔
@@notsad0096 I recommend to buy it now, it’s on sale at Walmart.
Is it easy to hang from the ceiling
I like this set a lot. Glad to have some official Mandalorians with faces considering how popular these characters have been since Clone Wars and continued to be popular in Rebels and the Mandalorian. I know this set is billed as a Clone Wars set but it’s clearly existing now because of the live action show.
Nah, it was very prominent in Season 7 and ties in with the Ahsoka vs Maul duel set. I reckon it would have been made regardless of The Mandalorian.
@@callumpears1523 maybe but it is good synergy between both.
@@callumpears1523 whilst Lego are clearly still making sets based on season 7 the fact remains that including Bo Katan in this set was certainly a good way to offer another mandalorian that could be used to represent scenes in both shows.
This looks like a fighter ship from a vertical scrolling arcade shooter
I wish they had included Saxon's sniper rifle, he barely even used a pistol while he was under maul's command
They probably have a brickarms version, their stars wars weapons have really took off in variety. Plus there movie accurate.
6:06 is literally just describing me as a Person :'(
YES
@@ironicallyagoat "doesnt go anywhere dosnt do anything but eh.. its there" xd
XD
only gaps... Canopy is a really tough piece to work with. I guess the space for both minifigs to sit with jetpacks is a good enough reason for the gaps. But the same problem with the same piece is apparent in 2012 version of the fighter, so it is also kinda sad to see that the designers have not found the way to get passed it. Had a great potential. Slave 1, if i can call it like that now, is a way better design, even with its gap/s.
feel like the old version looked better
@@asmunderickson yes, but gap, even smaller, does exist.
They could have used Zane's hair piece from the Ninjago movie in a light yellow for Saxon. I mean it wouldn't have been perfect, but it would have been workable. Also it would have been nice to get it in another colour.
U mean just Zane’s hair
@@QuietWyatt2005 Oh yeah, I forgot they've been using the movies designs as the standard
I really don’t like how offset the wings are. They are a bit too high and thus the engines are too and in its vertical configuration, they’re not centered properly.
I think this set would be absolutely perfect if gar saxon came with the captain america shield piece in trans light blue. other than that love it and once i get some more money definitely picking it up
Outstanding idea!
If he had two faces and a hair piece he would have been perfect
and his sniper rifle from The Clone Wars series
Seeing the generic Mandalorian made me want the other Mandalorians that the Mandalorian meets in the Mandalorian. An official unofficial Sasha Banks Lego minifig would sell like hotcakes imo. Hopefully we get one someday since the forge set is coming out soon. Maybe next season of the show…
Official unofficial?
@@claires1063 I'm guessing 'cause the figure would officially be... Koska Reeves, and unofficially Sasha Banks since it would have her likeness. Like how Qui-Gon can also serve as a Liam Neeson figure.
We probably will but not here, this is a clone wars set
@@cheezdoodle96 Yep that's what I mean, I imagine WWE technically own her likeness and name when it comes to toys (since they have action figures etc), but a Lego figure of the character would look like the character she plays.
Is it not time that Lego did plates that were studs on both sides for thin wings to look good on both sides? :) Would make for some unusual building possibilities too :)
Would probably be too out there. Lego avoids adding pieces that go against the traditional system and that would most certainly redefine the entire building process.
I remember a building brand called Cobi that made those pieces as 2x2 plates. They used to make Doctor Who sets
Bo Katan’s helmet print seems to be a bit off, the things that look like eyes above her visor. One seems wider than the other
One of my favorite looking (smaller) ships from the star wars theme in a long time
Love the design! As you mention, 49.99 USD might have been a better price point. Didn't realize how big it was until you picked it up.
I really like the "Use your Hands!" reference xD
Just got this myself, absolutely love it!
There’s really only one problem with the ship. The engines in universe are the rear landing gear. And there would be a front landing gear the drops down for the front. Or it would just balance on the engines.
That Gar Saxon figure is Sweet as.
What display position do you recommend? Some people are swapping the wings so you see the good side with the studs when in landing position
I made a stand for mine so I can have it in flight mode. I would recommend that
@@weezingargonian6523 can you make a vid of the starfighter on the stand as I want to know how to do that aswell and what it will look like
@@xhessii will do. I’m doing a sort of personalisation of it at the mo, but when that’s done I will
When I'll get mine, I'll mount it on a wall.
Thanks for this great tip! 👍
Great review Jang! Looks like a really interesting build🙌
Jang, I have bought sooooo many sets based upon your reviews. I trust your opinions and love the way you present the sets with pros and cons. When I'm interested in a set and can't find a review from you, I am always a bit disappointed, not with you of course, rather that I have limited info to make a decision to buy or not buy.
Could you use two sets and make the wings double thickness so they were the same on both sides?
I was thinking the same.
You have no idea how hard it is to clamp plates together facing opposite ways
@@adrianyu7389 I wouldn't Go for symmetric Wings but instead would use the parts to make the Anti Stud Side Look the same.
@@adrianyu7389 there used to be 2x2 plates with both side studs to allow that. I have a few of those pieces but it's been like 2 decades since they stoped making that piece or maybe even more idk
Now I see why Jang was excited about this one
I love Bo Katan.
I ended up using the mortar launcher build from the marauder to hold up the front. It works well
My personal modification that I am using to fix the landing "tilt": Move the front two 1x3 sloped bricks under the cockpit up four studs towards the nose.
In this position the wings have enough clearance to still let the cockpit rotate 360 degrees freely without interference, and the forward tilt (while still present) is not nearly so pronounced. Short of custom modifications requiring extra pieces or alternate builds this is how I have mine configured and I think it works pretty well.
That's exactly what I thought when I noticed the issue. I'm not sure why nobody has mentioned it. I'm sure that we could also modify other parts of the ship to improve upon it without the need of extra pieces. The 2012 design has 140 less pieces, but that fact is not very noticeable when you compare them side by side, which means that the 2021 version is not getting the most out of this advantage.
I think to modify the front landing gear to make it level would interfere with the wing transformation feature
@@aceofmason510 It’s definitely a compromise, however jang is usually pretty good at pointing those things out! Certainly warrants a slightly off position for the landed mode.
Then just relocate the extension studs when in flight.
My wife is getting me this for my birthday, I'm really looking forward to building it!
First to say Jang we love your content and are hoping your staying happy and healthy lately
Yes. We need a black and red version with a lil yellow thrown in. Jang should build his own version and sell instructions
This is one of the best lego star wars ships ive ever laid my eyes on
With some mods, it can be a perfect starfighter
I just finished building it, and i agree with you on both points about the canopy and landing pads. I wonder if Lego did the setup when the wings are up so you can still rotate the central area, something you can't do if its held up by that area
Thank you so much. FINALLY
Great review! Thanks!
I’m really interested in Mandalorians at the moment so I was looking forward to this review.
A problem is the gap at the cockpit!
I haven't had luck yet in finding this set. :(
We need a Koska Reeves minifigure
Great set and amazing figures. Bad part is the landing part. It doesn't feel like a modern set when the set is tilting, forward. That doesn't happen. Regardless.
I feel like this set is kind of a step down from Pre Vizla's Starfighter, though that doesn't matter as this set has Bo-Katan and Gar Saxon and I'm all about collecting every Mando mini figure.
I got that set and tbh building it bussin
We really need this as USC set
My biggest pet peeve about this set is my OCD. At 0:35, you can look towards the front mandibles. There's a spot where there's 4 plates all meeting together. And I swear to God, it looks like they should have put in a 2x2 dark blue tile to just connect them all!!! It just feels like there's a piece missing there
Great review as always!
Seems to me it needs those landing gears older sets had, which you can retract. You might even solve that landing on the engines issues with it. Not sure if it would be stable though. Canopy gap does bother me as well. And of course, I will buy it anyhow, since it is Star Wars and has good minifigs. Ow and the price isnt that bad at all. Still wish I bought the old version back then. Can you do a comparison between the 2?
Seriously what is up with the lack of landing gears now? I know this set lands with it's wings up but even the old version had other landing gears. Not just this but so many other sets don't have anything like that now. The Razor Crest, the Bad Batch Shuttle, and so many more. A simple mechanism would do but they don't bother.
OHHH no I kind of want this now
Thank you
Gar's facial yellow is better than most Lego's torso yellow, lol.
Okay, so the whole floppy front thing isn't just me. Also, is that little grey piece new? I hadn't seen it before this set, I don't think, and my never-had-Hydraxon brain is in love.
Costco just got this in their warehouses for $48.89. Picked one up for my son for X-mas.
The ship is supposed to sit on its wings/engines. However it should have a piece of landing gear near the front to level the craft
Please make a review of monkie kid set 80028. Thank you Jang
I love the look and want it in red
Best set of the wave.
I do feel like the hairpiece from the CMF veterinarian would’ve been better though
I want this just for the figures tbh.
I think this is a fantastic set
Is it just me, or is the canopy piece in this set made from a much more durable and anti-scratch plastic than we have seen in quite some time? It's quality far exceeds any windscreen piece than they've produced in the past 3 years or so...
this is a very attractive ship! gives me gradius vibes i dunno
the forward landinggear cant be longer, it would block the wings when turning. Which also could be a feature.
It’s a good set
Lol just noticed the date on the opening panel shows 2001 release date.. 😅
The price is a little to high for me, but I would love to buy it.
I mean if you want torture of putting pieces on one side of the wing and then they FALL OFF then go for it but skip the nightmare of the wings. I bought it while I was visiting my cousins and I
Hi jang
I have he original Pre Visla ship, and based off this video it seems the original is better than this new one, however I think this one could look way better with gentle modification
My biggest dissatisfactin with mine is the landing. The forward rake is really awkward mechanically, and with absolutely zero support beneath them the wings sag pretty badly.
In the clone wars it does actually rest on the engines
I don't even use legos anymore but hes just interesting
But you can’t see the green stripe anymore 😢
Hm... I Really like this. But I also Like the Slave I. Pardon, Boba Fetts Starship.
The Slave I had more Pieces, Less Figures and costs 50€. The Kom'rk (I believe thats the official Name of this class of Starfighter) has Less Pieces, More Figures and Costs 60€. Going to be a rough one to choose but I think Slave I had Priority.
Ahh. This set so needs retractable landing gears…
old version had it :/
You can make landing gears with only 8 pieces. That's what I did, and it works great.
Star Wars Lego Fans (especially prequels) are never satisfied. Be grateful that we got a mostly accurate desirable ship which people buy up quickly
The price is a bit inflated in my country, it would equal to around 85 USD today. Would that be worth it?
I just put some extra studs from a stud shooter on the bottom.
Great review, great set overall, flaws notwithstanding. Why is Lego getting so "messy" lately? Between the depiction of this set in Landing mode and the hip joint debacle with the upcoming new Marvel Superhero mechs, it really makes one wonder about quality control
they shoulda placed the bottom with flat pieces...like the tiles for bottom sides
Two more flaws in my opinion... first, there are no studs to hold the minifigs in place (i know, with the canopy-placement that would have been problematic, but still), which is something i'm not really a fan of (and wouldn't have been a fan of as a child, either, because i didn't want my minifigures to tumble around inside a vehicle while driving it or swishing it around) and second, and even worse, once again a vehicle without storage room for the intended minifigure's accessoires. I hate it when they lack those. But yeah, the worst is definitely the unsealed cockpit.
Couldn't wedge plates be used to fill in those cockpit gaps
This set still available to purchase in spring 2023 ?
Man pulled out a Lego arrow🤣
Yeah I think the hairpiece of vintage A new hope Luke and Anakin would work better
The kind of ship that should be a 1000 pcs set. I passed the 2012 one and will pass this too, way too boring at this miniature size (minifig scale wise)... The mandalorians are pretty cool, though.
So is this suppose to be a Kom'rk-class fighter/transport, or some other class?
It's a Kom'rk-class.
Get the previous version and compare them. To me the previous one is better overall (except figs)
Why are the space ships aerodynamic if there isn't any air in space?
Things like this are frequently pictured flying in atmosphere.
These new Lego sets look small but have more parts?????
Doesn’t it land on its engines in universe?
Awesome
Use the hands!
It’s a little bit shaky and it looks like it’s abt to break
I couldn't care less for The Clone Wars, but I do enjoy the design of this ship a lot. Will definitely get it when there's a sale on it. It should display nicely with the right stand.
The minifigures seem to be well produced too, though I'll just shove those in a bag and put them inside a drawer.
(Heavens forbid I still had any random minifigures to put in mine)
Jang when you will review lego star wars marauder?
If you add a 1x2 plate to that "landing gear" it will not rotate anymore .. therefor, this starfighter should had a folding gear.
The set they did for this ship in the clone wars a while back was way better
I payed $48 for it at Costco
🤲
