I think you are one of a small handful of foreigners who have actually explored a traditional Philippine carinderia. Thank you for your positive attitude, Justin. The reasonably priced dishes help many average and hardworking Filipinos get by their day and receive their nourishment.
aleng sosings carinderia in makati is very famous just last week i watched jessica lee became a server in aling sosing ang chef anglo is a patron of the karinderya food
Hi Justin, just a trivia and telling you that the carendiria you just visited was where JESSICA LEE a YT vlogger as well was where she filmed her "PABORITO" series as a food attendant server at her vlog a couple of weeks ago. That place is a fav to go eat of most locals there in Makati.
It feels good when we eat in karinderya i prefer em than eatin in fastfood coz its pinoy comfy food, affordable, yummy, home cooked and we feel at home also served with free soup and you feel very local with friendly staff. we order more rice sharing our viants and a big soft drinks its like a lil salo-salo pinoy style. after eatin there with tooth pick in mouth we feel solved and full, energize to go back at work smoke first hehe.
...,YOU'RE ONE OF THE FEW FOREIGN VLOGGERS THAT DO A FULL CONTENT ON PHILIPPINE PLACES AND CULTURE AND THAT'S A PLUS FOR YOU JUSTIN AND ALINA - YOU'LL GET MORE SUBSCIBERS BY THIS FOR PLANNING TO STAY HERE FOR A YEAR...WE LOVE YOU GUYS♥️,..
Always eat where and what the locals eat. Our rule of thumb, but we do go to McDonald's once in every new country. I love what you are doing here with the interviews and sharing. - Bear
No, you have no idea what brainwashing can do to people's perception, most stuff said about filipino food is just haters that are fans of other countries
Oh!!! Thats looks yummy men! And also my friends here in my work which came also from your city, she said that people there in that city are good in cooking
This remind me of the time when me and my brother and our wives went to Pagudpud. Some travelers would look for large restaurants, while we opt for a small carinderia. I was really interested what a typical Ilocano food from Ilocos Norte taste like
Bopus is lungs ,heart of a pig In the Philippines we call it curry if the food has curry powder or curry paste Try menudo , kakdereta, tinola afritada, humba, lechong manok, lechong kasali
i am also from pampanga and just moved here in canada and my fellow kababayans liked and likes my cooking skils.,even other nationalities does., it is not to brag but i just love being pampangueno wherever i am ., :)
I’m a Pinay , I lived in Australia for many years and have family that still live there and I live here in Washington D.C… for many years. I miss our food back there in the Philippines, I will visit this place, thank you for sharing. I’m more of healthy eating, more vegetables and occasional meat once in a blue moon. I just returned from my vacation in Australia last week, via South Korea. New subscriber here ❤👍
Nice you are rockstar for trying all Pilipino food, learn and most of all supporting Philippine culture. While I’m watching you make my mouth watering naka miss na talaga. It’s a long time hindi na ako naka visit Philippines. Maybe you can visit Also in my home town Tagum Davao but you can stop and visit Davao City a lot good local foods and beaches and hot spring at iba pa. Anyway I’m your new subscriber. You and your girlfriend we appreciate it you and God bless you both.❤🎉😊
Karinderya is more like a Filipino fast food except it serves Filipino local meal like they serve in Restaurants but more like a quick stop for workers, students or any locals to eat. The meals are very reasonable and cheap, very delicious food that Filipinos crave when they are on a budget and it's a go to place if you are hungry and on a tight budget and just enough to spend and fill up your tummy. Vegetable meals and seafood are also serve, my favorite vegetable meal is Pinakbet, it has variety kinds like eggplant, beans, bitter gourd squash and etc....Have fun on your tour in the Philippines 🇵🇭 and if you are a meat or Pork lover, go to Cebu, they have the best Lechon in the World, better than the Chinese Roast Pork known World wide...
That was the best Carinderia experience a vlogger ever produced. Your approach and format made it look as if we were there with you guys seated at the table and seeing all the food. I am surprised by how tender you found the squid but I assume that it must be the heat in Manila that makes it so. Cold temperature makes food cool down and toughen up. Great video!
Welcome to authentic Pinoy food eaten the local way at the roadside turo-turo. Ginisa is actually sauteed not boiled. So you’re friend described the food incorrectly. Bopis is primarily made from the lungs of the pig. You want spicy food? Go to the Bicol region.
If you stay longer in the Philippines the practical way to eat is in carinderua , it will cost you 300 pesia only with your girlfriend including softdrinks You can also take out foods from carinderia
Fun fact, the term (Karindirya) is a combination of two words. The first word is (Kari) which is the original Filipino pronunciation of "Curry" and the other word is (Cafeteria). Therefore, (Kari + Cafeteria = Karindirya.) In 1895, these roadside eateries were still being referred to as (Karihan/Curry Houses), it's only in the 1920's that the term (Karindirya) started to be used.
I miss bopis (it’s like sisig ingredients) and some of the dishes. Filipino food is very tasty. Frankly so underrated. Glad you are trying places like this where locals flock.
Bulalo is just boiled beef but puchero can be beef or pork with more ingredients and seasonings like potatoes, cabbage, grabanzos, tomato sauce, chorizo de bilbao.
I am so sorry but I beg to disagree to what he said that vege dishes is not common in the Philippines. That really depends on some people’s preference. City people loves meat but if you go a little bit away from there you’ll see vege dishes. One thing more, if you are a tourist you should research about the vegetable dishes and salads which are quite a lot. I have been watching youtubers going to Philippines who comments about vege dishes are not common that’s why I am very disappointed. I grew up there in the Philippines that is why I knew the fact.
There are veggie dishes in the Philippines. But about only 4 - 5 commonly known types. Most Pinoy eateries serve only 3, at most, if you're lucky, in one day's servings. But those dishes have, usually, meat included. Most of Asia have many more types of veggie dishes served in their eateries in a day's servings. The Philippines is more of a carnivorous country.
While there are pure vegetarian version with some of our dishes. It’s not the norm. Almost every “regular” vegetable dish that we have have either ground meat, mince meat, shrimp, shrimp paste, fish, dried fish, etc, which would make it not really a vegetarian dish.
In general or majority most prefer meat dishes and it can be said to be 60% true in reality. Though there are vege dishes but majority filipino when u visit carenderia there are 3 meat dishes vs 1vege dish hence majority prefer meat and it is undeniable
This is the carinderia where one of the biggest YT food vlogger, Mark Wiens, ate. He enjoyed the food so well. Hoping you'll enjoy it just like how it enjoyed it! ps. still in the intro while making this comment. hahaha ❤️
Vegetable dishes. If you travel further north of Luzon, in Ilocos provinces ( like Sur and Norte) you will find a lot of vegetable dishes . Even in my home in Hawaii we always have at least two vegetable dishes like denegdeng or Ilokano version of pinakbet along with meat and Combo meat /vegetables dishes and lots of fish . So Filipino dishes in other regions can be very very healthy.
Well, foods from Karinderya is very delicious, you can taste the home made dishes, compared to fastfood restos, Karinderya's tend to give free SAbaw, I hope you try it too.🤩🌟
Sir your guide tour is good. He knows were good tasty carenderia and tbe best tasty food. A typical food affordable resto and you taste the all fusion pilipino food.... all carenderia in phils. Are clean when its cook....
You can't get more local than this, Justin. I personally prefer to eat at places like this than your "normal" restaurants. I find their food more flavourful and you also find more varieties. This is the best way to immerse yourself in the Filipino culture. Next time you can share all your new found knowledge of local cuisine with Alina. 👍
there are many other dishes in the cafeteria, order dishes, co-workers are eating, besides, it's a student, that's where jessica lee vlogger korea went. Work season, do you know it, watch it
Toro toro means point with your fingers the food you want . You are becoming local. I will join with you if I am with you vlogging😅can you finish that ?
Ooohhh... that explains.. Gello is Kapampangan like me. That's why he knows what he's talking about. Some guides are "nagmamarunong" but give wrong informations. We Kapampangans are very sensitive when it comes to our cuisines.
it would be interesting to watch a livestream where justin, alina, and the subscribers "brainstorm" to make a list of must-visit places... kinda like a focus group. and since resources and time are limited, the suggestions should be well thought of.
1. baguio definitely has to be in that list because summer is quickly approaching. add to the itinerary, old diplomat hotel... at night. 2. any beach resort in roxas city (capiz)... if you're lucky, you might see a creature that resembles a strzyga.
Oh were is your partner???now your tryin our local menu hahaha people will love you more for that...there are some culture shock but i know you guys can easily adopt....enjoy....#spreadlove
Vegetables in Philippines is really expensive,as an ofw here in Kuwait,l only get to enjoy eating vegetables here. One of those which are cheaper are onions which is only 50 pesos per kilo,if you convert dinar to peso.As well as potatoes, also garlic which 100 pesos per kilo but those in garlic bag which has 8 pcs cloves inside is only 50 pesos. So,hopefully, our economy becomes better so we'll get to experience cheaper price of any commodities.
you should have chosen someone who's expert when it comes to food. someone who knows details what exactly food their presenting or introducing to you. Gelo knows the name of the dish and he eat it but he don't exactly know what he's talking about. I also noticed he's not that familiar. one can tell just by the look and color of the dish or food but he kept on asking what it was like the chicken curry, the beef steak if it was adobo. he even said his mother has a carenderia just where you were. but he's not sure how it ( dish ) should like
I think you are one of a small handful of foreigners who have actually explored a traditional Philippine carinderia. Thank you for your positive attitude, Justin. The reasonably priced dishes help many average and hardworking Filipinos get by their day and receive their nourishment.
