He said "shin as close to parallel to the ground", since you are effectively getting as low as possible while also still keeping all of your forward momentum. This is to prepare for transferring that momentum into a vertical jump, as most people slow down WAY TOO MUCH before they jump. Maybe watch the video next time.
@@theelectricman3323 not the same thing, there’s plenty of guys that can slowly leg press 1000 pounds and have a 20 inch vert and there’s guys with skinny legs and 40 inch verts who are super explosive
@@Syrup1 - no one jumps with their jumping leg’s shin parallel to the ground, he doesn’t even do it, his non leaping leg isn’t parallel. It’s only parallel approaching launch. Jumping is all about technique and knowing how to release the power out of your legs with that technique. You can have bodybuilders press a thousand pounds on leg press but can't jump.
@dannyjohnson9628 Yeah, half at most, tbh. Technique *_definitely_* matters, but without training for power and explosiveness, you'll probably peak _pretty_ early in your training. 😅
@@ivoryas1696 That's what I'm telling you. You can train for power but if you do not know how to release the power with technique out of your leg you're not jumping high trust me.
I think he meant the push of the penultimate step into your plant foot and then block foot. The push step into the penultimate must have your heel directly under the knee because it creates a smooth momentum like that of a forward lean in terms of jogging and sprinting. Planting this step too far ahead will actually slow you down since it's the brake angle. After pushing into your pentultimate step, now plant your strong leg into the ground, knee bends depending on the speed you were approaching at but generally it should stop at 90° max, then plant your block foot parallel to your initial plant foot, it could be directly under shoulder length or longer the further distance you are jumping from and the speed you are approaching from (Domdunks do these steps perfectly every time)
nah he said get your shin parallel to the ground so basically the best way to get hops is if u break ur shin bone so its directly horizontal and parallel to the ground that way u can get maximum leverage and thus maximum hops bro
@@ninjai5527that's the penultimate step you have just described. Basically what Isaiah meant to say is to not approach into your penultimate step at a brake angle (for the push step right before the penultimate step itself, basically the third to last step), hence, heels right under center of gravity to create a smooth flow of momentum. Then when you get into the penultimate step, you would want to reach as far as possible with your shin close to parallel with the ground, that way it guarantees a full transfer of horizontal momentum into vertical.
I watch these amazing athletes in the NBA, but me being 50, I can't help but see traveling on every play. Did they add an extra step in the rules since Jordan was playing? God, I sound old.
as close as perpendicular to the ground? What, that doesn't make sense for what he's demonstrating. See how parallel to the ground his shin is when he's talking about it.
Thank you. Sure you can get marginal improvement but ultimately it comes down to how explosive you are. Baron Davis or Derrick Jones Jr jump in extremely different ways and with incredibly different builds. Yet they both have insane athleticism and I guarantee you they never studied jumping. They just jump high…
I would beg to differ. First of all, this dude has the highest vert in the world for a reason. I think he knows what he's talking about. If you look at the above mentioned players, they ALL jump EXACTLY like this. Maybe they just got it, some people don't. Y'all can get off the high horse any time now :)
just because you can jump high, doesnt mean you know it all. The biggest factors are muscle fibre types, and body mechanics. i.e. you are born with it. dont drink your own kool aid.
Best workout for jumping is jumping!!! My brother never played ball but he would leap and try to touch anything suspended in the air no matter where he was at. He reached 50” max vertical by the age of 21. Now he is in his 40’s and strung out on meth…
Forget all that. You need to train fast twitch muscles or i dont care what technique you use you aint jumping no where. Fast twitch muscles, also known as Type II muscles, are one of the two main types of skeletal muscle fibers in your body. They are designed to support short, quick bursts of energy, such as those needed for sprinting or powerlifting. Unlike slow twitch muscles, which are built for endurance and long-term activities, fast twitch muscles are optimized for intense activities that last only a short period of time
