It's only safer, nicer where the tourists be at in 'Lower Manhattan', that's where the city mostly spends most taxpayer dollars, cleaning, adding more cops .. but in the outer boroughs it's a complete different story, The Bronx, East Brooklyn, South East Queens, shootings stabbings are a daily occurrence, filthy streets. That's the reality.
🙏😍😇🇺🇸🌏
Cash Jordan makes his living posting how NYC has become a warzone. Just look at every one of his thumbnails. They make NYC seem like something out of a zombie apocalypse.
I used to watch Cash Jordan and enjoyed his videos. What has happened ? I can't watch him anymore, so dramatic and fatalistic. 😢
@@dianeangelo2227 He realized that fear-mongering with clickbaity titles and overdramatic thumbnails brings in the views (every one of his videos get about 500k views after a day or two). To him, nothing trumps the almighty dollar.
It is with all the junkies in the streets
@@tony_5156 And yet life goes on. People continue going to work, kids continue going to school, couples continue starting families here, tourists continue visiting the city. A few junkies don't mean the end of the world is upon us like Cash Jordan would want you to believe.
Cash as a very different style , even when he was showing apartments the way he moves around the world is dramatic. But yeah NYC Is going down, getting a little old now.
Even with the shenanigans in Queens, NYC is still 100x safer than in the 80s and 90s. Social media is way more dangerous than NYC.
I 💯agree!
NYC needs a new Mayor!😳
@@Firestorm055xand a new da. braggs catch & release is why nyc is the way it is now
@@Firestorm055x Holy cow I thought Koch sucked in the 80s etc. but my lord does the current major BLOW ASS. Literally. Dinkins and Guliani (before he went insane) were SO much better for the city than the current mayor. But as @bsr6823 said social media just makes things so much worse than they actually are.

So true!
I was in the Village yesterday, and Midtown, both were packed with people enjoying our city
Thank you for an actual measured response and not the fear mongering that other NYC channels have turned to for clicks in the last year. This is way more helpful.
Totally agree. I unsubscribed to a few channels already.
I just returned from NYC this week. I never felt less safe there than in the capital city of my country or other capitals from Latin American countries I've visited after the pandemic. Honestly, I felt safe enough that I could walk with my phone in hand if I wanted. That's considered risky as hell in Latin America.
I’m planning to go to NYC on November but those crime news concerns me and I’m doubting about to go. I lived in Buenos Aires Argentina 3 years ago where crime rate were high, also I’m from Venezuela during the dangerous moments; so Idk how dangerous should I take NYC, also, I’m over-thinker so that sucks. Thank you for the comment
Yes, like Brazil. Brazil I had to keep my phone either at my airbnb or in my pocket.
Thanks for an honest reply....
@@lr9421 let me tell you that Manhattan is the tourist destination you have no business in areas the news talks about. Another thing New York is way way way safer than any random Latin American city.
If scared of New York why New York? Why not other places like the Grand Canyon? Why not Rocky Mountains? Why not Mesa Verde National Park?
I want to challenge you!!!! Come visit USA but without going to New York, Disney, or Las Vegas there are way way way more prettier places than those I mentioned here in USA. USA is a very pretty country.....
Te reto a que Vengas a Eeuu sin para Nueva York, Disney o las Vegas. Hay mucho que conocer en Este Hermoso pais
As a NYC resident, I really appreciate your perspective and comprehensive analysis and considerations as opposed to the fear mongering so many others have embraced these days.
It took me a split second to stop subscribing to that one new york youtube jerk who changed their entire content and are just doing one video after another about how NYC has broken out into dangerous riots all over the city and all stores are closing etc etc Bunch of drama for the almighty buck. Thank you Jon for being the voice of reason and one we can trust.
As a regular visitor to your wonderful city, I can see the fear mongering is just clickbait. Like all big cities, NYC has crime. But it’s nothing like as bad as London, which has become a cesspit of stabbings and muggings.
@@barbaramuzychka3836 I think I know who you're talking about and I unsubbed for the same reason
@@barbaramuzychka3836yea cos we can trust a person whose own UA-cam videos and subscriber rate is based on making the city look more attractive and fun.

I have literally just returned to the UK from a holiday in New York. We used the subway, pathway train, tramway and ferries regularly. We travelled to Brooklyn, Roosevelt Island and New Jersey. We walked the length of Manhatten. We had zero trouble. It was a fantastic, enjoyable trip (my 5th time in NYC)
There are issues in any big city, you just need to be vigilant, educated and informed.
I love your videos John and on your recommendation we went to Luca Brasi's deli in NJ, Scarr's Pizza and the Time Out rooftop bar in Dumbo. We loved them ❤
Next time go to the Bronx. At night. Tourists have a much different and better experience than people who live in NYC.
@@peterwelbyMost of the Bronx is safe. Even at night. A few parts aren't.
can you advise which parts of the Bronx to avoid? thanks !
@reindeer-o-stoole Generally the South Bronx, and adjacent neighborhoods you can avoid. Not much for a visitor there anyway. The neighborhoods north of I 95 are generally safer. Arthur Ave (Little Italy) is near the Botanical Garden and the Zoo. All worth seeing.
Totally agree - amazing place ! Never seen ANY trouble ! I’m from London and have been twice in 2 years on transit holidays ! Best place ever !

@@bhuvanordhruv It's not collapsing. Those who lie and say it is have agenda.
I really appreciate this video and its honest, measured, in context approach. There is another prominent NYC UA-camr who’s been capitalizing on fear-mongering content over the past few months - and of course his views ($$) are skyrocketing. It’s very disappointing. I miss the real estate content.
I live in Toronto and go to NYC pretty frequently. I was there a few weeks ago and I felt just as safe as I always have. Living in a big city, I always encounter the unhoused population, those with mental health issues, etc. I do wish there were more government programs to help these people out of course, but this mix of people is just part of living in a big city.
Cash Jordans videos feature local news stories. It's called reality. It's not fear mongering. I know liberals think crime is fiction until they get mugged. Telling tourists it's safe is incredibly irresponsible. I guess facts don't matter.
Agree. I have cancelled my subscription to that person's channel because of this very thing. Jon Barr has been keeping it real and I greatly appreciate his content.
@@fernkitty Cash is getting annoying with that. He should go back to real estate.

Other people’s bad experiences in NYC, will not deter me from travelling to this amazing city! Great video Jon😁
There are crimes at are not reported
As a NEW YORKER I would like to tell ALL tourists that you are 100% GUARANTEED to see or be in the midst of something sketchy(from a scale of mild annoyance to GTFOOTN!) when on or in the subway. Just use your common sense, no eye contact, no engagement with said "sketch" and if you get too uncomfortable get out or off the subway, there's always another train. Also, sidebar, when walking on the sidewalk, wherever you are stay right, to keep the flow of traffic moving. Ithankew.
This is the issue. My two year old is going to be drawn to that, so maybe if your childless your cool…I used to go to nyc all the time as a kid and I rarely ever saw anything that sketchy in Manhattan.
Sounds like a horrible place if your guaranteed to see or be in the midst of something sketch 😂
@@domingodelgado3944 Yeah the subway IS a horrible place, but New York isn't, two things can be true at the same time.
The thing is an outsiders perspective can be valuable. If you live somewhere every day its harder to see the change because you adapt. If you revisit a place 5 or 10 years later, you will notice the change.
I trained boxing so I welcome all challengers and confrontations.
Why on earth is NYC’s crime such a big deal while dangerous cities like Jacksonville, FL, Houston, TX, St. Louis, Memphis, etc get a pass? You have a much greater chance of becoming a crime victim in those than NYC any day of the week.
Yes!!
Those aren't real cities that people go too and they've always been bad. NYC is recently bad.
@@bvilla12 Not true. NYC was in very bad shape and had bad crime when I was growing up there in the 60s and 70s. I am told it was even worse before the 60s. In the 1940s when my mother was in high school her parents wouldn’t allow her to ride the subways. I do know NYC’s crime was super bad in the 1800s and early 1900s. Trust me today NYC is in better shape than most US cities.
Exactly!!
@@lizhoward9754 I know all about that I grew up in the 80s and 90s. Watched it basically become Disneyland in the 2000s. You could be the clumsiest most unstreetsmart person and nothing would happen to you. I would walk through Manhattan or the middle of Brooklyn decked out with jewelry/watch and not think twice. Would not do that today. Just because it was bad in the old days does it mean we won’t acknowledge it today and progress backwards?
I always see those kind of news from my country but when I get to New York I feel totally safe, nothing compared to what the social media is sharing with the world.
That's because people like you came here and tried to takeover and normalize a lower standard of living with illegals and criminals
People love to follow the media instead of their own experience
@@animaladam5 yea... fruitcakes are attracted to bad headlines, unfortunately - well, a basic human behavior.. bad news / dramatic headlines sell..
Thanks for a measured, calm video on this issue. I remember NYC in the 70s and 80s and it is nowhere near as bad today as it was back then. A certain other real estate UA-camr has decided to go alarmist and post clickbait videos. You are the voice of reason. I subscribe to you and not the “other” NYC UA-camr.
Except from his perspective it’s way, way worse now than during the Giuliani and Bloomberg years when he was growing up. That’s his reality and many others. Frankly I’m tired of the it was worse in the 70’s excuse to do nothing. Life in NYC is pretty shi**y right now, and everyone knows it.
You f*****g ROCK dude! You’re talking about these issues and topics in an insightful, and intelligent manner.

I'm glad I'm not the only person who has noticed Cash Jordan's pivot from a real estate agent to a fear mongering conservative mouthpiece. It was an odd thing to witness.
@@sypherlynx I used to enjoy his channel. His willingness to pivot to racist dog whistle fear mongering for maximum views ended his legitimacy as an informative UA-camr.
@jonathanlee7199 you guys just want to watch the world burn. It's good to be conservative about your country and way of life. Can't just sell out the city 1 politician and illegal at a time.
Cash Jordan uses actual news stories in his videos. It's not fear mongering when it's based on actual events. This channel is about promoting tourism. He can't be too honest.
Jon I know that there are a lot of issues going on in NYC, but I'm looking forward to my visit to NYC this Memorial Day weekend. I will try to book a food tour with Greg.
You will LOVE NYC! IMHO
Unlike Cash Jordan who sold out with his fear-mongering videos on his UA-cam channel, we can always count on you to give us the honest truth.
Yeah apparently he cant rent out overpriced apartments anymore (bc nobody paying those inflated prices) so he just posts fear mongering videos recently. Its alarming he went that route
And airbrushing over issues seems to be this guys forte for people like you seeking confirmation bias?
Cash jordan finally "WOKE" up
100%. Was watching his videos for a while and I can't even remember the point where he crossed over from videos about apartments in New York to complete and utter fear mongering. My guess is he made a couple of videos on crime on the subway, saw the views 10x'd over night and went "kerchinnnnng!!!" - the guy doesn't give a fuck, he found a money loophole.
Cash Jordan is a fraud.
Per shoplifting, they can spin the numbers any way they want. The reality is that when I go to Walgreens to get beers, razors, etc its all under lock and key. I’ve lived here for 50 years and thats new to me. So they can tell me crime is down but I prefer to believe my own eyes. They even have the gummy bears locked up, what did they do wrong???
Very true, I think this is the case not just in NYC, but in a lot of places. I live near New Haven and the Target has a cop in the front because shoplifting is so bad.
Thanks for this. We need more counter-narratives like this to keep the city appealing. I live in Los Angeles, but absolutely love NYC and everyone I’ve met there!
Hi Jon,
This was a wonderful video with a balance between reality and overreaction. Today is much safer than years ago in my opinion. The 1970s were vicious.
Thank you for your well reasoned discussion about crime in NYC.
Have a great Sunday,

I just spent 7 days in Manhattan. During this time I took 17 subway rides. Not once did I feel unsafe. Locals were friendly and helpful. I agree though the biggest threat I felt was from the bicycle riders. My only suggestion not mentioned in the video is for to put nothing in your back pockets. Put your phone and wallet, for example, in your front pocket. I was in Las Vegas recently. Within 2 hours of getting off the plane I was pickpocketed. I had no cash, no ID, no credit cards. Since then I've learned the front pocket technique to reduce pickpocketing.
It's about staying away from certain neighborhoods in nyc. You'll be fine anywhere outside the greater times square area
As a German, living close to Berlin and is always joking, that Berlin is an open air asylum.
I have been in nyc on may 1st (manhattan) and using the subway as well as walking on several streets.
Not even one person ran into me. No one was shouting or yelling. Not even mumbling something.
And I have also been underground in Penn Station.
There are way worse places in Berlin, daily flooded by tourists.
Is New York safe? I’d say yes. Especially compared to Berlin.
@Jon Barr: I’d like to thank you for your videos here, you gave me some nice spots to visit in New York, which I enjoyed a lot.

I flew into NYC on Friday from Chicago and am staying here until next Friday and after watching Cash Jordan, I thought it was like the wild wild west out here with stabbing and immigrants taking over the city. It's been so nice and lovely, might I even say it's cleaner and doesn't smell as bad as my last visit. I say it endearingly! There's definitely fear mongering going on and that's sad.
I was at the big apple recently but I didn’t see anything as wild as the news said. I saw homeless and migrants and some weird stuff but not bad at all. as a native nyer, 59 years, i have never had a serious crime committed against me or anyone i know. i know where i can go and the safest times to be out and about. i commute to work on the subways 5 days a week, or ride bike to get around. i have no fears of being here. i have what's called a healthy sense of concern. if you pay attention to your surroundings, avoid confrontations, DON'T STARE, and move along all should be fine. also, stop flashing expensive stuff. that begs to have it taken away. i suggest tourist stay away from touristy areas. nyc has 5 boroughs. each burough has attractions off the beaten path. don't be affraid to ask for directions if you're lost or need help. and one last thing, don't give money to the homless or people begging for money. they could be sizing you up to rob you. offer them food if you have any on you or just say no sorry and keep walking. keep in mind nyc has always been the target of haters because we actually are successful in having every type of person from around the world living together somewhat peacefully. is it perfect? no. but give us some credit. 10 million people jammed together going about their business is something special.
I always took the subway without fear in all the years I lived in Manhattan. Now I'm just afraid to go down there with so many crazies randomly attacking. The city has changed and not for the better. How do you feel living in Brooklyn...much different than Manhattan?
You are watching the wrong news channels then. Yes, there are crazies in any city - but thousands and thousands take the subway daily with no problems at all.
I'm a New Yorker and I don't want to go into the subways either. It's dangerous and there are mentally ill people everywhere.
@@Person-mh6xq I guess the local news channels are the 'wrong' ones?
@@Person-mh6xq I don't need to watch the news channels. I have lived in the city for over 50 years and have only recently moved to Westchester. I know the city very well. My son who works near Wall Street got mugged, his wife got shoved to the ground on the UES for no reason at all and I have friends who also were involved in unprovoked crimes both on the Q and R trains. Crime has always been a problem. My husband and I also got mugged at knife point late one evening on Second Avenue and 72nd Street way back in 1968. Sure millions feel safe and have never had any problems. However, when you have been personally a victim of crime and know others who were, too you look at things differently and don't need a newscaster to warn you of the dangers. I'm glad you feel safe that's the way it should be! As for me...I stick to cabs whenever I go into the city to see my dentist!!
Living in fear is not living! I refuse to live my life in fear and what ifs, allowing some small possibility of an incident to keep me from enjoying our fantastic city! No way.
I was there 2 weeks ago and didn't feel unsafe at all. My own city (Toronto) has problems with mental illness and unhoused individuals as well. I spent time in Midtown, Bowery, Bushwick, the Village and Central Park and had no issues.
Just spent a week in Manhattan, the only sketchy area the entire time was Times Square at night. Besides that, and an occasional empty subway track, I didn’t even think twice about crime. The media is blowing this way out of proportion.
THX Jon. always spot on. love NYC
A UA-cam influencer named Cash Jordan is always focusing on migration issues and the crime throughout the city and he lives in nyc too.

Cash is not balanced to me and gives the appearance of fearmongering. It is sad because I used to enjoy his videos.
Really appreciate your videos, they made my family’s first NY trip last year great. Having lived, worked and traveled in large cities on the West coast were I live, New York felt safer than most as long as you were aware of your surroundings. We expected the worst on the subways and streets but never felt threatened. This was the case even when leaving midtown to visit Rucker park, Brooklyn and other areas throughout and around Manhattan. There always a chance things will go sideways, but if you remember you’re in a major city and need to stay aware you’re far less likely to run into a problem.
Nice job Jon. I have walked, run the whole of NYC, traveled the subway in every direction for many years and bar encounters with a few people with mental health issues I have always felt safe. Could not say that for many cities with similar density and population.
thanks for the video...completely agree...as an active subway rider, remember, in general "nothing good happens after 12 midnight"..when riding the subway, just be aware of where you are sitting, who is in the car, etc.
Cash Jordan is the king of clickbait! The fear mongering is ridiculous! It’s like if nobody could go on the internet and look for the stats. But some people unfortunately get sucked by the sensationalism 🤷🏽♂️. But good for you Jon, giving a balanced perspective of the situation 👍🏽

I love this video man. I live in SF and we get the same hate. Fact is when crime happens it trends on the news and social media, one person or busines or having a bad day and suddenly its a indicator of the city as a whole. Most people go about their day without being a victim or having been assaulted.
In April, we visited NYC for a week and used the subway the whole time. We didn't stick to the touristy areas (thanks to your videos!) and had no issue at all. What's true for every major city is to stay alert of your surroundings and not go flashing cash, jewelry, and expensive electronics. The NYC subway system is a great way to get around the city, but it can be a bit grim at times. Our kids weren't prepared to see a homeless person unconscious in the train but these things happen in every major city.
This was our second visit to NYC, and we will definitely be back.
Greetings from Belgium!
We were in NY a week ago. Felt way safer there than I do walking in downtown Minneapolis.
I was just in New York City in April and I stayed there for 2 weeks. My main goal was to watch as many Broadway shows as possible so I was at Times Square every day (usually late afternoon and night). I was traveling all over Manhattan and some places in Brooklyn. I was on alert when I was out but I don't feel unsafe. There are quite a few police officers at the entrance of subway stops than last time I visited in 2017 and there are significantly less homeless people on subway trains. People still use their phones on subway and not seem to worry about it being snatched. Just don't sleep on the trains no matter how tired you are. You just have to be in higher alert generally when you are in US if you are from a city with lower crime rate like me. Look at the reaction of other passengers (especially NYers) when something weird happen.
Excellent advice. We go to NYC a couple of times a year to see shows and sightsee. As long as the city is stepping up to not let the crazies and the criminals (I know there is overlap) take over, I'm excited to go back. At one time I lived in one of the most low-crime suburban areas of the country, and there was an incident of a "homeless/street person" hitting and killing an innocent man walking down the street. This can happen anywhere, but crazies/criminals do need to be dealt with. Also, folks should be careful. The last couple of times I was in the NYC subway, I was shocked to see a few people standing close to the ledge engrossed in their cell phones. From the time I started going to NYC in the 1990s, I always stand as far away as I can, and pay attention. In other words, a combination needs to happen: law enforcement, prevention and for potential victims - self awareness.
I grew up in Greater NY in the 60s and 70s; the subway was way more dangerous then. I live in SC and SC is way more dangerous than NYC.
Great video, Jon! Very informative. Thanks for the insight. 😊
Good of you to make this video, really bored of other youtubers who live in NYC or who don't making constant fear videos for clicks.
I have never felt unsafe in NYC ever , no more than any other major city around the world.

We were in NYC Fall 2021 and will mention we are senior citizens... I would return in a heartbeat. We rode the subway daily, walked to many attractions, rode bikes in Central Park, went to a few lesser known places on your advice. Thank you for that.
Your advice is spot on, be aware of your surroundings, use common sense, etc. To this day, people try to "tell us scary stories about NYC". Jokes on them they have no idea what they are missing.

The biggest form of safety is in looking at people, not your cellphone. Not aggressive staring or confrontational glaring, but just being observant and aware.
Thanks for the information.
Hi Jon .. most crime happens when 2 or more individuals bump into each other and a fight insues…
Barr is the Batman to Cash Jordan's Joker.
I've lived in NYC for 8 years and I am sorry, but this is crazy, compared to my country, for instance. I feel so insecure, I see so many crazy, violent, insane and aggresive people on the street that it's crazy. I avoid the subway as much as I can, but I walk a lot and even though I do it in Midtown, even there, with so many people, there are a lot of dangerous persons. More things have happened to me here in just one year than in my whole life in Europe. And no, I don't think at all that it's any migrant crisis fault. Those people were here years before, and they are Americans.
Hi Jon, just got home from NYC, having followed many of your tips for places to visit. I even spent a great morning in Hoboken thanks to your suggestion. Thank you so much for making my first visit to The US so perfect. Mark

As a long time visitor and recent resident of New York City, my family who spends all day watching the news thought I had gone crazy by moving. Plus all the people who make videos clickbaiting crime only make perception worse when in actuality the city is a relatively safe place
Thank you! Important video.
We visited NYC for the 1st time a month ago. We were definitely a little nervous because of videos or news that we saw, however when we were there it wasn't so bad. There were a few situations that startled us. And you will meet "interesting characters " (to put it nicely) everyday. However, we didn't have to deal with any violence or anything that represented real danger. Just remember to follow the advices like don't make eye contact and to be aware of your surroundings.
Thanks for clearing all these things up, Barr. !! Keep at it!
Thank you for this insights Jon, I will always be a fan of you. From PH🇵🇭 to NYC, still my favorite City of all..
Thank you, thank you, thank you! Finally someone proving a voice of reason on this topic
I remember Times Square in the Late 70's and 80's.
My home city has really cleaned up its act. So much better now!
Thank you for making this. As a native NYer who's moved out west, I'm constantly asked about how dangerous NYC is from folks who only see the news and another NYC vlogger who was amazing but has not sold out his channel to the alarmist revenue Gods of the algorithm. I always echo much of what you said here and I can now send them this video.
Well said. Good information here. Cheers, Jon!
Great video, yes everyone from NYC please stay there thank you!
Thank you for this! I watch other NY focused UA-camrs, and sadly, a lot of them have gone totally negative to generate views. I am older and remember NY of the 70's and 80's.
Thanks
Hi Jon, I love your videos and I love New York City. I visit there for a couple of weeks about twice a year and was just there in April of this year. I travel on the subway and walk in Central Park, but never late at night and I avoid sketchy areas. Common sense must be used no matter WHERE we go. There are some horrific crimes that happen every day in small, "safe" little towns all over America. I live 5 miles north of San Francisco and I cannot tell you how many people have asked me what it's like to have "homeless encampments on every street." WHAAAT?? A couple of blocks in the downtown area have that, but the rest of San Francisco is just fine, thank you! As you said, the media loves to inflate and sensationalize the few incidents. Also, I think some people only watch/read the hype and like having an excuse to not venture out of their bubble.
Thank you speaking the facts. Certain news outlets have their own agenda when reporting the news
What a great video. It’s about time people speak on this topic realistically. New York isn’t for the meek, but it’s also not the hellscape people from the Midwest want to think it is.
Thanks jon. Its not bad, i am on suubway and manhattan regularly and i do not feel unsafe. Need to stay aware and alert, but its not doom and gloom
In my experience, it’s a lot of confirmation bias from people who haven’t been to NYC. I’m moving to NYC in June and I’ve been in the city quite a few times this year related to my new job and I’ve never had a problem. The smaller city I’m coming from is consistently in the top 20 for per capita theft and drug crimes and everyone warning me about NYC can’t see the cognitive dissonance.
Jon, we can always count on you to provide accurate information about the current situation in NYC at any given time.
Thank you! I travel extensively and find NYC to be one of the safest cities. Really...the most criminal thing I witness is Elmo asking to take my picture with him! 🙂
I'm not worried about visiting NY. My husband & I would be there right now, but my husband needed shoulder surgery. So, we had to cancel our trip. Hopefully next year.
What I hate about Cash Jordan (and unsubscribed after many years) is that he is really embracing the UA-cam dark side using AI generated fake title image, click bait title and fear mongering content with so called “citizen journalism”. It seems really profitable by just inciting fear and anger. I really hope you don’t go to that route. ❤
I gave up on watching that guy a long time ago
Agreed! I unsubscribed to Cash's channel as well for the same reason.
Now even if Cash actually tours an apartment, he just complains about how small and expensive it is. Like you can leave if you want
Same..and Jon was the one that gave Cash his break on YT by promoting his then small real estate channel... NYC is a safe city by any standard considering it population but Cash has sold his soul for clicks
I also unsubscribed from that fear mongering weirdo, he makes a living out of making nyc look worse than hell yet he wont leave and move to florida along with his trump fans. I wonder why that is, wasn't nyc some horrific uninhabitable place?
Hi there, I think your analysis hits the point. And it is valid for a lot of other places (Milan, Berlin etc.).
I was so scared to move to NYC last summer and now almost one year later, I LOVE it and feel so safe. I walk / transit everywhere and haven’t had an incident yet. Knock on wood! But also be vigilant - i.e: I recently switched subway cars because there was a small argument arising on the cart I was on. Just be mindful of your surroundings.
Also I live near LES/EV where there’s a lot of migrants who hang around the area during the day - and they have never caused any issues. In fact I live on a street where the mini makeshift bike parking lots are so it’s a daily occurrence.
john i really love your content, i never get tired of watching them, u give out great info and advice
Listen, I am here now and have been here since Friday, I have seen NITHING out of the norm. My philosophy is, Do what you do, mind your business, act, look, and walk like a New Yorker, you will be fine. I LOVE NYC. I have been coming back and forth for about 15 years and I love it . Keep posting vc I do a lot of things you suggest . Thanks for all you do. I watch Cash Jordon too but don't pay attention, I just come, have fun, ride the subway, be a New Yorker.
Thanks again.
Great vid 👍🏻
Hi,
I live in London and am just heading home after a fantastic week in NYC.
We found New Yorkers to be friendly and helpful. We didn't have or see any threatening situations even though we travelled on the Subway every day. Like any big city, you just need to be mindful of your environment all the time and carefully choose the people you interact with.
Does the crime depend on the neighborhood? What neighborhoods should be avoided when visiting NYC and its boroughs?
I would say the less touristy ones (you will never think of going), but you should always be careful at midtown (esp near times sq). There are a lot of people just trying to intentionally bump into you to create chaos.
I say decide where you want to go and check if it's safe.
The Bronx
Mid town and Lower Manhattan are safe. Most of Queens too. Western part of Brooklyn is fine. Northern part of the Bronx (zoo, public gardens) is ok as well.
We were in NYC the week before last. Our 4th trip there. We were all over the five boroughs. Took the subway everywhere. Day and night. Experienced no serious issues. Just the usual subway weirdos.
I am from Germany and was in NewYork for 8 days last year. For me, the only unsafe thing was the big temperature difference between the station and the train.
always enjoy visiting nyc!
I visit New York all the time and catch the subway!! It is fine, the news blows shit out of proportion
Media is the biggest problem w the issue by constantly reprting issues and never any solutions.
Great video Jon. Thanks for providing an objective and well-researched POV without the sensationalism. Ariel (Urbanist) was recently talking on a live stream about a certain NY UA-camr who has taken to hyper negative sensationalism in their videos. It's sad to see someone tearing down their own city for clicks. You're offering an important counterpoint with videos like this one.
I guess it's easy to tear down a city when you're NOT from that city. That "NY" UA-camr is not from NY.
THANK YOU for this video. As a native it’s frustrating seeing how others continue this narrative to either profit on YT or through politics. Is NY a perfect place? No. Is there still a lot of work to be done? Absolutely. Is it the crime ridden Gotham city it’s portrayed to be? No.
Hi Jon. Great video. It bothers me when I see negative comments about NY from people that have never even been here. I was born in Bay Ridge and am proud to be from NY. A lot is just common sense and knowing your surroundings. Tourists are safe if they stay to “tourist “ areas. It’s a shame though that they miss so much more fun things to do in NY. 👋🏽
Thanks for clearing all these friend things up, ! Keep at it!
Jon - Thanks for all your videos! Just returned (alive and happy!) yesterday from 2 weeks in NYC. Stayed in the upper West side (Hotel Beacon) this time which was excellent with the residential neighborhood vibe (schools and kids and parents), with great restaurants and the fantastic Museum of Natural History. We went all over including into Central Park's Conservancy Garden (beautiful!). Never had any problems with crime, and saw families and single/pairs of women in places like Central Park - no problems. I would agree with your comments at 3:35 that you need to look both ways at bike lanes for the crazy whoever delivery guys. But ignore the click-bait lies of those who want to scare you, folks - NYC is amazing!!!
I live and work in New York all my life and take the subway everyday and I don’t feel threatened or scared
Thanks for this. Was starting to wonder if I would have to give up on my dream of living the city. Really glad to hear the good news.
