Standing Pilates for Seniors - 30 minute workout to Improve Strength, Flexibility & Balance

- Join me for a 30 Minute Standing Pilates for Seniors workout. With exercises for balance, coordination and flexibility as well as building strength in your legs, hips and back. this calss is suityable for anyone who wmats a gentle standing workout.
I call this my active ageing session as the exercises included are for the general aches & pains in the joints and spine that come with age. There will also be gentle stretches to improve flexibility, as well as exercises to build core strength and improve posture to help with all the time we are spending sitting down during this pandemic. I'll be adding other exercises to challenge your coordination so look out for some fun exercises to work your brain as well as your body! Exercising regularly will improve both mind and body and I recommend you build up to doing your pilates workout at least twice a week. Take your time and do what you can. If anything is too challenging for you right now, don't worry, just rest and come back and try again when you're ready.
The session will be followed by a Q & A where from the comfort of your own home you can ask me questions, or just say hello whilst enjoying a nice cup of tea at a safe social distance.

Hi Rachel I know this is an old video! I follow you and do loads of your classes. I thought you would like to hear I was in for a day appointment in hospital and as I waited on the ward I did this whole class! Behind a curtain but I’m sure everyone could hear my deep breathing! It brilliantly stretched me and made my spine feel loose. It also really relaxed me as I waited for my treatment. So full mind and body . I know that is so important to you. I've been doing your senior workouts for a few months and they are the best thing ever for this arthritic body. Recently I've been seeing a physiotherapist for a crummy shoulder - age, arthritis, and some rotator cuff stuff. This workout incorporates many of the movements recommended by PT, especially the W, L, Y, T. Feels so so so good

Thank you very much for doing these videos for we seniors. I can really feel the benefits in my body. I'm wondering if Rachel would consider also doing a video for seniors who have osteoporosis, a weakening of the bones. People with osteoporosis are not supposed to bend forward so we can't do the curling and uncurling exercises. Thanks.

I enjoyed the exercises very much. I find the chin to the chest, rolling down a bit of a challenge but I persevere. I also find that I can't keep my stomach in all the time as I sometimes release my stomach muscles unknowingly. I've been told that I have stenosis in my back so an exercise to address this issue would be great. Thanks very much.

It is not only my shoulders that crunch, but I LOVED the workout and will be back!!
You’re exercise is nice and gentle. It’s what I need at this time. Just starting to get back into exercise. Been helping with building our retirement home. And bringing firewood from our woods dragging dead trees with my ford like tractor in to saw up. At this time I can’t get up and down from the floor. So standing exercising is the best for me. This is currently my daily go to class. I’m in line for having my 2nd hip replaced and have been given a series of exercises by our NHS physiotherapists. They’re good but not as detailed as this session. Although I love dancing and exercise, and never stay still for long, I have always tended towards repeated changes of direction rather than balance and control. The NHS exercises are good and are helping me get get stronger. This class is the icing on the cake - especially the breathing and extending out of the hips. I especially love the little plié and heel raise from 1st position (squeezing my butt and thighs). Quite uncomfortable but the fact that it’s easier 2nd time through, tells me that it’s doing me 👍🏻.
