Excellent, was about to turn off the laptop & do some housework when I saw your video pop up. So switch to the big monitor, brew a fresh coffee & sit down to a visual treat. Wood-graining speaks to my inner OCD demons. As a child I loved drawing contour lines, finger prints & wood grain/rings. I remember having great fun with wood grain combs, painting the old woodwork in my first flat to look like real wood again, it can be very therapeutic. Nothing to do with the Black Pearl but I remember reading about how Admiral Nelson had The Victory painted in black & ochre stripes, with the inside of the gun ports painted black. This was later adopted throughout the Royal Navy. Not only did it make ships easily identifiable, but you could tell at a glance if a ship was ready for action. If the gun ports were closed the ship would have a banded appearance, but if gun ports were open it would have a chequered pattern. Excellent video, looking forward to the next instalment.
I know exactly what you mean - the covered planks were kind of experimental fields for the weathering. I could test without the danger of ruin the impression.
So good to see you again and with this build. I was enjoying it so much when it ended all too soon. Fantastic build so far, weathered to perfection. Can't wait for the finishing touches.
Hi Tom, Your videos are inspiring. A true work of art. I think you deserve much more exposure on YT. Your Avro Lancaster video is hell of a project, and so enjoyable to watch, yet only 200k views - out of which 100 is made by me ;) Anyway, I'm your faithfull subscriber, and hope you keep on going with your builds. Awaiting Part 2. Greetings from Poland!
Revell should really hire you for their quality department. I mean how can they forget to put some wood structure on a wooden ship? And there are so many more kits which should be improved in accuracy and detailing! But hey ... if they would make fine models where would then be the fun for us modelers to improve our skills? ;-)
There os wood structure just not on small parts. But with the right weathering you won’t notice that, also because some parts will be covered later by other parts.
Lovely work and I'm definitely going to copy your method for painting the wood, looks fantastic. With your attention to detail, I'm just a bit surprised that you didn't correct and detail the entrance to the Captain's cabin; should be double doors with windows either side and curved staircases coming down.
Great work. One piece of advice if I may. I use a razor saw from CMK Kits(ultra fine saw blade) to simulate wood grain. It has a great effect as well as not too deep, and covers well when you paint it. The lines show well without it looking as if someone gouged(😮) the plastic/wood! Regardless, great job. My example is direct from Europe. Just patiently waiting for me to finish 20 or so other kits!
Thank you - I still have a lot of old Humbrol colors to work with. I like how they could be used in similar way to oil colors with relatively faster drying...
I'm working in a brand agency as 3D designer. I don't have much time for my hobby and the filming currently. That's why my videos take such a long time to finish.
The deck planking is the wrong colour, I'm afraid. In the first film we can see the cursed pirates still holystoning the decks, keeping it clean, and there's even a brief closeup of the deck itself, right before Pintel and Ragetti fire the shot that brings down Interceptor's mast.
In a hundred years these will be revered in a museum

The feeling of sadness in me when details are left behind walls.. Perfection

Love it ❤❤❤😊
WOW! 🤩
I've got this kit partially assembled around as well. You re-texturing all the blank surfaces is.. quite insane. But it looks really great!
Thank you

Amazing, master! Bazinga1
I like you're hand
Amazing as always. Interested to see you are still using Humbrol-colors. Arent they hard to buy now? Greetings from Sweden

Давай ещё такие видео про Black Pearl выпускай
amazing job what color was used for the cannon barrels?
Nice detailing work. The Captain’s cabin and the staircases are areas these kits muffed up badly
Currently re-watching LOST. On season 4.
tam da, da da da, tadada
Crazy work on wood texture. Do you have official work? :DDD How much time it took to process all the panels with wood texture?

Ive been missing your videos @TomGrigat ! Never enough time for hobbies eh :)
What, no barnacles?
Next steps. And definitely a lot of it...
He puts barnacles from the Half-Life franchise on the ship just to be a wiseass.
I'd get such a laugh out of it if he did that.
