Personal ads was prehistoric Tinder 😂
Fun to read lol
😂😂
Lol yup
They may have been 'prehistoric' .. but @ least people were still willing to meet in-person, interact and have real conversations with one another. Today .. asking for a date w/someone is all done on LIVE chat, face time or whatever. Oh! and hopefully your date can talk normal too. Most speak the same way they text ... abbreviated! Ya need a pocket dictionary to keep up w/the OMG's, LOL's, tee zee he she's, WTF's!!, IMO, BFF's etc etc.
In my day .. the only {important} abbreviations we needed to know were .. BYOB, IRS, SSA, FBI, CIA, DEA, ATF, FDNY, NYPD, DSHS and OBGYN. 😎
@@lisar.6670… exactly this! 😂👍👍
His lady placed the Personal Ad because she was unhappy. He answered the ad, not knowing it was her.
So, they were both looking for something else…
And, rediscovered each other.
Best line in the song is "Awe, it's you".
... because they didn't realize they were already exactly what they wanted until this happened. It's kinda sweet. In a twisted way.
@@RMiles-jd2ze no, best line isThen we laughed for a moment
And I said, "I never knew"
"That you like piña coladas.......in that moment they found their love again.
This made the Guardians of the Galaxy soundtrack and got a second life ❤
His wife was bored with the marriage, she is the one who wrote that first ad, the one he answered not knowing it was her.
Such great storytelling in an upbeat pop song. We all had that same reaction when we first realized that his wife placed the ad and he answered it not knowing it was her.
My best friend from college met her husband with a personal ad … pina colada song! 40 years later, 2 kids, 3 grandkids! I was in the wedding party!
This song set a rare record. It was the last #1 song of 1979 and the first of 1980. So it was #1 in 2 decades
It's a fun song with a quick short story. Moral is keep the spiciness in your relationship. Don't just settle into a box, have date nights or overnight escapes or do silly things like walking in the rain. Its very easy to get into a daily routine, especially after the kids come, but to keep a lasting relationship you must work at it and have special times to look forward to.........without the kids around.
It's about rekindling a relationship. They each thought their relationship was becoming predictable and routine. At the end, after meeting in the bar, they realized that they were looking for the same thing. It's a funny, sweet, and beautiful song about two people who love each other.
When your 8th grade English teacher has a side hustle! 😅😅
naaaa, has to be Science teacher. lol
They were both bored of the same old dull routine. But what they didn't realize was that everything they were both looking for in their relationship was always right there and they just never realized it until she placed the personal ad and he replied to it.
The personal ads for adults in the newspaper was a big thing back then.
There were even sections for kids and teenagers looking for pen pals in the teen magazines. At age 13 or so, I had a girl penpal that lived in another state that we wrote letters back and forth, and swapped pictures. Unfortunately, we lost track of one another.
Sometimes when I'm looking through the old photo albums and I come across her pictures, I always wonder what happened to her. She would be my age now... late fifties.
She put out the ad first. 😂😂😂😂 Let's hope the marriage was renewed. 😂
SHE wrote the initial ad in the paper. He just answered the ad.
Very iconic song for its time...we all knew this then...
Love seeing people realize they know the song, at least in passing, but then they realize what the story is about a d its always hilarious 🎉😂❤
I miss the days when I could cruise around on a balmy Summer night and turn on the FM radio and hear tunes like this.
Communication is the key. 😊
The lyrics made us all laugh back in the day, like today! Those Pina Coladas and personal dates! Hilarious!
He may not have a lot of hits on the music charts but Rupert Holmes is very accomplished. He has written several shows for Broadway, both musicals and plays, and recently published his first novel "How To Murder Your Employer". I listened to the audiobook (narrated by Neil Patrick Harris) and it is really good.
I was 10 when this came out. I loved it. Had NO idea what it was about. I didn't even know what a Pina Colada was. 🤣
This is the song that’ll be playing at the end of the world. 😂
Jokes on you Shon! It was her stepping out on him. I think the expressions on EVERY reactors face are priceless when they soon realize this. They all thought the guy was the 'dog' too ...
I always wondered how long it took either of them to stop and think...your wife/husband was looking for someone else!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🎶🎼🎵
I love Rupert Holmes, his song Him is another good one IMO.
🇬🇧 This one has been around forever (at least it feels that way!). On the radio non stop in the 70s. 🎶
Rupert gotcha Shon lmao awesome reaction.
Part of the soundtrack of all our lives. I'm sure there's some aboriginal people somewhere who haven't heard this but if you're in more modern society for sure you've heard that hook.
When I hear this song, it makes me think of 2 movies.
One is The movie The Sweetest Thing the other is in the movie Shrek When Lord Farquad is trying to find a lucky lady they're talking about princess Fiona.
What a fun song made even more fun by Shon!
one of the best reactions to this song. too funny
While this was his big popular hit, Rupert Holmes has since had success writing Broadway musicals. He lives quietly in the Hudson Valley.
This makes me want a Pina colada. The coconut from Harry Nilsson is fun too 😊 Peace out ✌️ ☮️
This is my summer jam when I'm in the pool! ❤
When writing to the paper was the thing to do😂
The thing around the Hawaiians neck is called a Lei. Great reaction
This song is love it or hate it. I love it. I think it's brilliant storytelling. And the video is straight cheese but oddly funny and alluring.
Love your reactions...this is one of my all time favorite tunes
Shon, for more island vibes, have a listen to MAGIC! and their song "Rude". It's such a great song! Wow, just noticed the music video's got 2.4 BILLION views! 🤯
Shrek. This song plays when Lord Farquad asks the mirror about the princesses, and it shows Fiona. This is probably how most younger people know the song.
This song is so popular because they found their love again. And they have more than they had before. Just imagine that, you are tired of your lady, so you are going to cheat. You goes to the Tinder or some crap like this and randomly reply to a woman, because "If you like piña coladas
And gettin' caught in the rain
If you're not into yoga
If you have half a brain
If you like makin' love at midnight
In the dunes on the cape
Then I'm the love that you've looked for
Write to me and escape"
and when you meet her, you find its your own lady. From all of the people you find each other again. It must be destiny.
This is a great song, but I ❤ your reaction, so awesome and funny, your a cool 😎 cat . Hell yeah 🤣😊
A great song.! ❤❤❤❤❤
Not me screaming “Just wait” this is the original DMs 🤣
Fun song ! Thanks Shon
What a twist 😂 great reaction
Hey man, love the channel. Thing string of flowers is a lei, pronounced lay, Hawaiian in origin I believe. Great reaction, to one of the biggest earworms of all time.
As an older man now, I think it used to be quite a typical feeling when you get into relationships early in your dating 'career', maybe neither of you with much experience and so you drift along together after a while.
Maybe nowadays with the internet telling everyone what everyone else is doing to spice up a dull relationship, it doesn't get to that stage.
Certainly after a few relationships have been and gone, it helps us realise what we like and don't like, maybe also what the warnings signs are - although freinds tell me that online dating apps are full of married people claiming to be bored, so it's possible life has always been this way.
I believe the item you ware around is a necklace of orchids. I don't know the correct spelling but they are called lays.
It was his wife who put add in the paper😮
"TROPICAL"
This is such a fun song interesting concept though, but this video I always say this guy looks like someone Science teacher his wife wrote the ad. He answered it when he got there found out it was her.
Great song!
You're in for a treat❤❤
❤
I love how people reacting to this song when they are convinced he’s stepping out but really she’s the one stepping out on him. Hahahahaha 80’s Tinder
He looks like Eminem’s dad can anybody else see the resemblance 😂 or is just me
If you haven't heard it before, could you react to the song "Slide" by the band Slave? It was released in 1977. I still remember the first time I dropped the needle on this record. It was my introduction to Funk music.
checkin in...
It was his wife that put the ad in the paper that he read while they were laying in bed and she later sleeping
Rupert Holmes had another big hit and really cool song, also about a failing relationship with his wife or girlfriend called Him. I actually like it better than the Pina Colada song.
Answering Machine is pretty good as well.
Check out Johnny cash's song Chattanooga city limit sign. If you want a great story song in love to laugh this is the song.
I'm not completely certain that both parties would laugh and be relaxed when they meet
I remember this tune from the old day! Great vibes! I reckon they were both kinda wrong in the deal when ya think about it. 😂
❤🎶🎵🎶💗
Shon can you react to exile kiss you all over
A request ~ Joan Jett and the Blackhearts #DoYouWannaTouch 😎
She wrote the ad first
hi man
😂 I hated it just because they played it to death, but the nostalgia is hilarious!
Role playing to spice things up.
I loved your face when his lady walked in😂
dude looks like a 6th grade science teacher!😅
The last guy you'd expect to be singing this song about a stalled marriage & impending infidelity.
@@rogerdaly6326 right?🤣
I thought that the whole album was great, but a lot of the bits are a time capsule. Other good cuts, are Him, Answering Machine, Lunch Hour, and People You Never Get To Meet.
I remember this song - if it's about a true situation I would love to know the outcome. They were both looking for another partner so I'm not seeing how this could have worked out.
Can you check out the motels - total control. Great sax in it.
I'd love to see you react to "Carson Peter's and Ricky Skaggs". Song; Blue Moon of Kentucky. I think you'll be surprised and impressed by what you see! 😃
To me its about rediscovery in a relationship....all the things you may have been looking for are right in front of ya
and I'm sorry but the line that starts'and then we laughed for a moment'
the reality part is that would never happen lol
If you want a shocker, you should check out “All I Wanna Do is Make Love to You” by Heart.
Its a darn song, everybody. Dont take it ao seriously,
The funniest thing is that this guy doesn't even like pina coladas.
She was tired of him also
I bet she was disappointed and had to play it off since she posted the ad in the first place 😮😮😮😮😮😮
"What's the Pina Colada song *about*?"
"Two really shitty people."
😏
How did this song not end with a homicide?
Because it was actually funny.
such an Iconic tune...but one of the worst videos ever! fire the producer...they could've done So much better
