If we will can do an imaginary mix of bit of Nico+Lydia Lunch+Siouxsie Sioux+Lene Lovich+Gitane Demone+Diamanda Galas we will have the beautiful, enigmatic, mystic and marvelous, amazing Jarboe
Come down off your throne and leave your body alone Somebody must change You are the reason I've been waiting all these years Somebody holds the key Well, I'm near the end and I just ain't got the time And I'm wasted and I can't find my way home I can't find my way home But I can't find my way home But I can't find my way home But I can't find my way home Still I can't find my way home And I've done nothing wrong But I can't find my way home
I've read your comments and the fact you saw Blind Faith live and consider yourself a Swans fan is a real pleasure for me. You're one person who I think I can sit and drink and enjoy listening to music and blabber on it with well into the wee hours and not be concerned with all that generational gap garbage. As a teen back in the eighties I loved my Venom and Slayer as well as Yes and Pink Floyd.Always a true music fan.
28 years ago I watched an epic live performance from Swans at Reading Festival. It was early evening and had been raining all day, but their performance was mesmerising. I also recommend Steve Winwood playing the original on an acoustic in his house/studio (search youtube)
A couple years later than this performance, I saw SWANS - with Jarboe still in the band, still: she was fucking insane--INSANE on stage! I almost had her booked once, for this one festival that I put on; but minor scheduling issues got in the way. Too bad, cos people would have flown into Boston from all over for that gig!
This is one of those extremely rare bands that was able to make my 20-something musician snob jaw land squarely on the fucking floor. And even to this day, it's STILL a "White Light" is over here, everything else ever recorded is over there-situation.
This is easily one of the best performances by SWANS on You Tube, it's a shame there's no visuals for Jarboe's irreverent cover of 'Black Eyed Dog'! They chose their cover versions well.
@harry21868 I undrstand you perfectly...ill be in an old folks home listening to all that same music or haunting someone that does. I cant ever let go. all these artist touch my heartin ways that are painful and enriching at the same time. And I have had music save my life more than once. I have literally not killed myself purely with the thought that I wouldnt be able to hear these songs again. it has kept me here, and will continue to until its not my choice. Cheers harry.
Just to agree with circusmort's earlier comment. I think this was "The White Room" 1989 as it coincided with the British leg of their Burning World tour. Incredible, ecstatic gigs.
@andinoble It's sad Jarboe won't be with the band on the new album or shows, but the new material sounds fantastic. Just tuned my ears to sample track 'Eden Prison' on The Quietus. Sounds superb!
@harry21868 right there by your side. i'm only 41, but went through the whole package. ENB, Test Dept, Cocteau Twins, you name it. Had a couple of bands myself, but dissapointed by the narrowminded. Mind You, it was Croatia in mid eighties.
It's now a year after you posted, harry21868, and I am 58 years old myself. The musicians you list have saved me in the middle of a dark night many times as well. I grew up with Blind Faith's version, even saw them perform it live. But I'm so glad I kept listening to new music over the years and didn't get stuck with the same tape loop labeled "classic" playing over and over in my head. Jarboe's voice takes the lyrics somewhere else, somewhere immeasurable. If you can't hear it, then you can't.
@harry21868 I understand you perfectly...ill be in an old folks home listening to all that same music or haunting someone that does. I cant ever let go. all these artist touch my heart in ways that are painful and enriching at the same time. And I have had music save my life more than once. I have literally not killed myself purely with the thought that I wouldnt be able to hear these songs again. it has kept me here, and will continue to until its not my choice. Cheers harry.
Agreed, fantastic. Blind Faith's version is great too (heard this one first so I might be biased?), but they really made this their own. Jarboe's got a voice, that's for damn sure
I know this is hopeless but if ANYONE out there has the two supposed Circus Mort songs that are only demo and that I can NOT find...PLEASE post them? I need them!
Well, I'm pretty sure Jarboe is a genuine weirdo and probably more than a bit melodramatic in her day to day life, so naturally her concert performances would be rather... over the top.
I'm going to get so much hate for this from the hardcore Swans fans, but in this video Jarboe totally puts me in mind of Kristen Wiig doing an impression of Courtney Love. I searched for this video because I really like this version of this song already, but I do think the eyes rolling back in the head and stuff is pretty excessive.
@andinoble Yes, oh Yes, OH YES!!!!!........28th of Oct.......Finally. A huge deal for me as I come from N.Z. but living in London. Was set to fly back next Month but now I'm staying just to see them. No way in hell would The Swans tour down to little N.Z. Not even D.C.D would tour down to N.Z. even though Brendan started his music career there. God, this feels like hooking up with the Girl you've fantasied about for time.
@swans1997 I will admit that stevie nicks sounds a bit goat-ish here, but personally I just love her voice in dreams, and anything else off the rumors album with fleetwood. those were her golden days fooooosho
I know Jarboe was around before both of them. I'm not saying she's doing a conscious "imitation" of them, she just looks like a someone playing a character in a parody of a melodramatic rock music video. She looks like a parody of herself. But she's still great.
No negative response here. Just listen to the empty crap on the radio these days. Jarboe's voice has more humanity in it than all the trash on television these days. Swans is the only band that matters since Ian Curtis hung himself and Gira is God.
@sellgems I don't know, I can't find the fascination wth Stevie Nicks. I always thought she sounded like a damn goat with a cold, but we all have our preferences.Jarboe's not for everybody, but, I can think of worse.
This absolutely sucks. The music is decent but the singer is horrible and she is overacting to the point of being rediculous. They butchered a classic. I'd rather listen to William Shatner's "Mr Tambourine Man" or "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds".
magical mystical Jarboe
How can they not find their way home with this? Very nice.
I had the pleasure of seeing Swans live twice in the 90s it's such a powerful experience.
I love this one, much more than the studio version, great show.
If we will can do an imaginary mix of bit of Nico+Lydia Lunch+Siouxsie Sioux+Lene Lovich+Gitane Demone+Diamanda Galas we will have the beautiful, enigmatic, mystic and marvelous, amazing Jarboe
Come down off your throne and leave your body alone
Somebody must change
You are the reason I've been waiting all these years
Somebody holds the key
Well, I'm near the end and I just ain't got the time
And I'm wasted and I can't find my way home
I can't find my way home
But I can't find my way home
But I can't find my way home
But I can't find my way home
Still I can't find my way home
And I've done nothing wrong
But I can't find my way home
This performance gives me goosebumps. So good
Jarboe's voice
Incredible band...Jarboe has such an incredible voice...SWANS have gone through so many changes...Gira just keeps getting more interesting with age!

Wow, first time i hear this singer and i am absolutely smitten. Powerful, haunted, beautiful. She's incredible.
I have no words for the way she's singing. Never seen, never heard.

Beautiful. One of the best songs and a heartfelt and lovely cover.
Just amazing. I never knew footage like this existed of them.
Norman Westberg on guitar - ahhh. Beautiful.
Swans were most def at the height of their creative brilliance during this period.
A height. Not *THE * height. They remain incandescent
This is one of those extremely rare bands that was able to make my 20-something musician snob jaw land squarely on the fucking floor. And even to this day, it's STILL a "White Light" is over here, everything else ever recorded is over there-situation.
Simply can't believe how perfect this video is.
So Beautiful..xxx
This just mists me up and gives my goosebumps every time I see it. :-)
This is miles better than the single version!
The single pissed me off.
Cool upload!
This is easily one of the best performances by SWANS on You Tube, it's a shame there's no visuals for Jarboe's irreverent cover of 'Black Eyed Dog'! They chose their cover versions well.
This woman definitely got a beautiful voice….not to mention she did music with Philip anselmo of Pantera. That tells you she’s musically diverse
This is from Channel 4's Club X - 1989. Great Clip - thanks for sharing!
OMG! shivers 🖤
Beautiful
Beautiful
I am amazed
Thank you
Awwwwwsome cover! Art meets music. Best cover ever of any song anywhere...
VERY COOL I LIKE IT BETTER THAN THE ORIGINAL AND I HAVE BEEN A BLIND FAITH FAN SINCE 1985 AND THIS HAPPENS TO BE MY FAVORITE BLIND FAITH SONG.

Jarboe, active singer performer started in 1984

How are you doing lately
So good.

Fukn amazing

@aneondevilbreath I totally agree. And her voice is completely beautiful. Whenever I hear her sing she moves me like hell.
JESUS, THAT WAS GOOD.

Fukn awesome
Wonderful, ain't it?
Awesome.

Wonderful.
Jarboe was doing this shit before BOTH of them. They're the imitators.
Love it!

Jarboe is fantastic.
@1973mazdarx4coupe who would you say is better?
brava!

@swans1997 I will admit that stevie nicks sounds a bit goat-ish here, but personally I just love her voice in dreams, and anything else off the rumors album with fleetwood. those were her golden days fooooosho

Wow. Where did you find this?
U still there ?
🌘✨🌒
I'm confused. Where's Michael Gira?
I thought I saw him playing the guitar
yep he's on the acoustic guitar
If 2020 was a song cover, it would be this. They should change the group name to COVID
868 likes... this proves all those hipsters that like Swans now just do it for the fad
If you like Jarboe here, check out her 1,000 years video I also upped.
1969?
Music and Arts from Mars - This is a cover of a Blind Faith song from 1969.
No reply, so I assume that he can do it much, much better.
@sellgems I don't know, I can't find the fascination wth Stevie Nicks. I always thought she sounded like a damn goat with a cold, but we all have our preferences.Jarboe's not for everybody, but, I can think of worse.
I heard the Swans version 1st
Ha Ha college friend? Probably more the Ten Thousand Maniacs or REM type a guy huh?
no it isn't and no she isn't.
Zzzzzzzzzzz
Jarboe is way better than Blind Faith
