Kasey Chambers is a great and accomplished Australian country music singer-songwriter, who has won multiple awards and accolades for her 12 studio albums and her singles releases.
She is a huge Em fan & has LIVED the song. Paid her dues big time & has been a star for 20 years in Australia. A great artist with a fantastic catalogue of work.
Kasey presented this performance as her life in song - as a journey. It starts with the soft plead of uncertainty highlighting a lack of confidence. Then the mood all changed to a cry of anguish and determination. Finally, after all the hard work comes tremendous acclamation and success. She lost herself and left her soul on stage, laid bare and battered. Unbelievable and brilliant. This was a deconstruction of Eminem's incredible artistry reassembled and made better.
Kasey's musical journey has not been an easy one for her. She has always struggled to get the recognition she deserves. It's so good to see this video being shared, she is a very, emotional, talented artist. Kasey is very much alive & into her 40's now.
Hi Everyone,💫 I have 👍 all of the comments as they're great. Yep, Kasey was 46 when she performed this at the end of a full concert in 2022 in an approximately 1500 seat famous old theatre in Newcastle, Australia. Kasey created this musical masterpiece by first deconstructing Emiinem's rap, then composing her spectacular rendition. Kasey made this song her own... while still paying homage to Eminem. In my long life, I have never wanted to hear a song (from any genre) as much as this song. It is so emotionally profound. As others have said, I also love seeing the reaction videos of Kasey's re-imagined song. (>100 so far). Kasey's genius talent shines brilliantly 🌟 Feel so happy for her ! All the best from Debbie in Australia. ✌☮🕯💙
Yep, Australia. Kasey is pretty big here. I didn't appreciate her until I saw this & now I listen to this one about every second day. I love it. No, she's still here. Joplin was 27 when she died. Eminem thought it was dope too. He contacted her to tell her to put it on her Spotify. x Linda.
I was at that concert in my hometown of Newcastle last year Kasey is actually in her 40s and she will often joke about her age during her shows so I doubt she would be offended - I really hope she wasnt dead because she didnt look it :) Her dad was the guy sitting down playing the slide guitar, The clip was put together when Kasey asked anyone at the concert to send in any footage they may taken hence the quality of the video is not that great. Try "Aint No little Girl" the Tennesee Underground version its a different genre but another emotional performance from her.. She has been performing since she was a kid with her family and has many solo albums she was also inducted into he ARIA Hall of fame. She does a really good bluegrass cover of 7 Nation Army in Cleveland which is worth watching if you want to go down the Kasey Chambers rabbit hole ..
At the time of this performance, Kasey was 46; and a mother of four. This performance has been described as Rock-Ballad, a mix of country, blues and rock; Kasey is a huge Eminem fan, and during Covid she re-worked the song as well as applying music to it.
Who is Kasey......born 1976 & started singing in her family band (The Dead Ringer Band) 1987. Recorded her debut solo album in 1998 & is a country singer. 12 studio albums later - she has 18 Platinum certifications - given the small size of Australia's country music audience - THAT is quite amazing. Australian Independent Record Awards 1 win Australasian Performing Right Association 10 awards Australian Record Industry Association 14 awards Country Music Awards of Australia 24 awards Australian Entertainment Mo Awards 2 wins National Live Music Awards 1 win Country Music Association Awards (US) 1 win Americana Music Awards 1 win Youngest inductee into the ARIA hall of fame. Spent the various COVID lockdowns (unable to tour) breaking down Lose Yourself & creating this arrangement. It's her dad sitting on the left with a metal top slide guitar. The audio was recorded at the mixing desk & after listening back they realized she'd created a pretty sensational track - the concert had not been filmed so Kasey reached out on her social media platforms & asked her fans to send in any camera phone footage - that's what you're watching.
You seem like my type of people. You get that this means something to her. You respect the artist. I hope you do more Kasey, and delve into the seemingly bottomless well of Aussie talent that people in the U.S. seem to have never heard of.
Great reaction. Calling this a cover is downplaying it. It is so much more than a copy or adaption. This is a reimagining of an already great piece. Kasey is known as an Australian pop/country artist and has received many accolades. She started in the biz as a 10 yo with the family band. Dad still plays in band with her and is playing the slide steel guitar on stage here. I believe the were well set up to record this and as you say had all the microphones mixing etc prepared - what they hadn't fully prepared for was video. My understanding (I could be corrected) is that they were pleased with audio but need more video to edit this UA-cam and crowd-sourced it from people who had attended and taken handheld phone vids. It works for me. 😎
M heard her do the renditions in the cover he gave Kasey Chambers his Blessing after he heard her do his rap song and turned it into a ballot😊 he's aware of the song and he really likes it he's proud of the way she broke his music down rap can be broke down and made into music like that people just don't realize it so no that Eminem has heard this he approves he was very impressed with the cover
This may not be the whole story but it is relevant to the story. Kasey went solo with her first album in about May 1999. Whilst the album did ok she was not getting radio airplay. Her second Album was released in September 2001 and her first hit single in Australia was Not Pretty Enough which was a dig at the music industry(Ironically) in Australia and her struggles to get her music played. 8 mile was released in 2002 and its not to far a stretch to see Kasey having a connection to Lose Yourself. She was a fan of the song and used her time in Covid Lockdown to come to this arrangement. Am I not pretty enough? Is my heart too broken? Do I cry too much? Am I too outspoken? Don't I make you laugh? Should I try it harder? Why do you see right through me
Excellent reaction. The entire song is a work of art. From Em's lyrics, the band, Kasey's heart wrenching rendition to the clip itself made up of fan phone footage. Em did his amazing version to suit his audience. Taylor Swift did a very nice cover to suit her audience, but Kasey does her raw balls and all F bomb rendition to suit HER audience. Because that's how we like it. G'day mate from Australia.
I understand she really liked this song and during COVID set about covering this song. Other cpmmentators have said Eminem has seen this cover and said she could release it her self. It was recorded but not videoed. Kasey requested any video footage from peoples mobile(cell) phones and it was collected and put togeher with the audio.
i don't know if it has been mentioned, but the performance was professionally recorded, and then Kasey reached out to fans on social media for their phone footage for the video
Had to laugh when you said you were taken aback at the Motherf'er. In Australia swearing is as natural as breathing - she tells a story of when she won her first ARIA [Australian Recording Industry] Award, that her Father told her before going stage to just be her usual humble self - no one likes a 'see you next Tuesday' 😆
As I understand it Eminem approved of her version and allowed her to monetize it on Spotify. This is the song that I judge all reaction channels on now. Some reactors get it, some reactors don't get it. I went ahead and subscribed to your Channel. Good reaction. You definitely got what she was doing. Carry on brother!

In 2001, Kasey released "Not Pretty Enough" off her 3rd album, it is a commentary on the reluctance of commercial radio stations towards playing her music; even though she was hugely popular, and had many hit songs and albums at the time. My feelings on her version of Lose Yourself, is a direct reference to saying don't pigeon hole me; she had a hard time at first being accepted as who she is, not what people thought she should be.
check out "Kasey Chambers - Full Session - 7/7/2017 - Paste Studios - New York, NY on UA-cam". If you look at that channel they also list the songs individually. Raw, honest and high quality recording
Try “ am I not pretty enough” especially if you have female friends, daughters. And “ the captain “ Her dad on slide guitar on that clip. Ex partner on guitar. Well Loved in Australia, not huge like she would be in the states.

Bloody brilliant. Absolutely loved it. It made me appreciate Eminem's great lyrics even more. She brought the emotion and soul to this song.

Yeh, she is country and an Australian, and loves Eminem. Just goes to show how great a songwriter he is.
Eminem liked this so much he gave her the rights to post it on Spotify.

Where did you come across this information?
People have been curious, but have yet to get any word from anyone with authority to give a word about it.
Shoutout to Em who does a great cover of Casey's song here too!
