My teacher showed us "A Mirror To Her Mouth" in school and it was unbelievable. I was enveloped in the story and completely forgot where I was like I was in a movie or something. Her acting is incredible. Better than most well known actors today.
Amazing. This was no "mere" performance. We get to hear the words that we ordinarily would not. This is not play acting, no marketing, no director to say cut, no dumbing down, no sanitizing for the audience. Its "their" words brought to light ...Anna is just that good...but that's not the point... and I am sure she would agree..she is just a conduit (and an inspirational one) for the power of the truth, real lived experiences... if we had just read those words on paper that would not have exacted such power. Anna is the real deal. She is just extraordinary.....what a superb presentation.
I was introduced to Anna Deavere Smith by my mother-in-law. I became a student of Ms Smith's work and I for one owe a huge debt to Dolores Dickinson. Ms Smith stirs up thought provoking discussion and great enlightement of my core in humanity! Her body of work is better than some of the greatest authors and artist in our time. I applaud her craft and her way of bringing the human dispora to the forefront of our minds.
i was reading about her in my text book for my intro to theatre and i'm so happy i looked this up to better understand how she performs! this is so amazing!!
I'm in awe, she's incredible, I got lost in her character portrayals, she became each person and I was sucked into each one's personal truths. I need to watch more of her and read her works. I can't believe I've been ignorant of her existence... just wow...
Amazing! Simply amazing! I saw her last night live in her show Let Me Down Easy! She had the entire audience spellbound. She is the most amazing actress I have ever seen!
if you ever get a chance to see "Twilight: Los Angeles" you must, I remember I was going to bed at a cousin's house and it came to unc-tv ( a channel in NC) and I got stuck, trying to figure out what was happening, and then I was amazed and before I knew it I had watched the entire thing. Amazing!!
🖤 THIS BROKE ME IN A GOOD WAY. SO DEEP AND SKILLFULLY DONE. MY FAVE TT BY FAR. I FELT EACH CHARACTER LIKE THEY WERE ME. PURE TALENT TO CONVEY OTHER PEOPLE'S SENTIMENTS AND EMOTIONS, TO GET OTHERS' POINT ACROSS SO SHARPLY.
7:50- Mirror to her Mouth. One of the best put together monologues I've seen. Anna Deavere Smith is the embodiment of everyone of the charecters she inhabits. That one will stay with me.
I was scrolling 'round UA-cam and spotted the face of my favorite character from The West Wing. I thought "I should check this out, she seems amazing." Yes. Yes, she is amazing.
***** Well, You have to understand that she is doing an accent of a specific person which she taped. So, her voice is like the recording not like a typical accent.
The investigation of a negative imagination was a very interesting story. Horrible event, but very interesting and one of those things where the phrase "you can't write this stuff" applies.
My teacher showed us this video to show us verbatim theater but stopped when she got to the inmate story because of how graphic it was so obviously I had to come back
Thumbs up if you're here because of a Theatre Assignment!
