Forget the LFA and the LS, The 2021 Lexus LC 500 Convertible Is The Ultimate Lexus
Вставка
- Опубліковано 29 чер 2021
- Don't get me wrong, I love the LFA, and the classic elegance of the original LS 400 can't be denied, but the LFA just wasn't a "real Lexus". Say what? Yep. I argue that as well built as it was, and as much fun as it is to drive, it just doesn't fit the brand. The softly-spring LC on the other hand, is peak Lexus. It's quiet, comfortable, assembled with precision, has a glorious V8 exhaust note and precise steering. This is everything a new Lexus should be. And the ginormous grille? I don't hate it on the LC for some reason. Go figure.

Man that exhaust sound with the top down. OH MY GOD
"Forget the LFA"
So you have chosen violence
Yep.
Liked both comments, can't go wrong.
Would you like an LFA for an LC?
Yes.
Hi Tyrone
@@wadehiggins8107 sup
Guys, guys…..(and of course the few ladies that are on here as well) let’s not get confused or lose the plot. This car is ALL about the SOUND and that NATURALLY aspirated V8. Forget about the trunk, the back seat , ancient infotainment and whatever else. I know, because I bought one…..and I was perfectly (mostly ) happy with my seven year old 550 SL(which I will keep since I am not spending the extra thirty to sixty grand to buy one of those 911 or M8 cabrios). If you want a grand tourer to drive 500 miles in comfort and also hear a NA V8 engine sound (roar) as you up and down shift on a winding road, this thing is a riot. Couple the free revving V8 and it’s smooth power curve together with superior fit and finish and Lexus reliability, and you will have a car that you will enjoy for many years to come - and you will hardly see anyone else drive one. V8s and especially NAs aren’t going to be around too much longer guys and when they are gone, the resale value of this car will bottom out and start to climb. Sure the SL has a more solid feel (it started as a cabrio and this one didn’t ) and I like the hardtop, bigger trunk , and the punch of the SL’s turbo V8 …….but this one makes me smile when I turn the ignition or accelerate out of of a curve. Need to take people, the dog , or kids somewhere, or make a Home Depot or Costco run, take the spouse’s or significant other’s inevitable SUV- or have a knock about parked in the street. If anyone six months ago had asked me if I would ever even consider a Lexus, I’d laugh. But head on down to the dealer (if you are lucky enough to find one that has one that you can drive), and you’ll be surprised. I was.
Yesssss! This comment is perfect! I’ve daily driven my 2018 LC500 for 4yrs and UA-cam stats and reviewers can’t possibly fully explain how this car makes you feel and over time it just gets more special bc for a BARGAIN, you get Supercar looks, the best drive train of any car I’ve ever driven, and the feel is indescribable. I’m about to sell mine for a drop top! 🤙🏾
I have #79 of 100 Inspiration Series Convertibles, and would not trade it for any of the cars compared in this video. It is just that special!!!
What about trading it in for corvette Z06 or Zora🤔?
Holy mother of reliability
The LC 500 is absolutely breathtaking, I have seen 2 in my area (one convertible and one coupe) and I always have to do a double take every time
I have always seen this as touring car. It’s 0-60 time doesn’t matter. It’s weight doesn’t matter. It’s there to look good and it does damn good job of it🔥
Look good, feel good and sound good
I agree. If you like the car, buy it, if you don’t, go away and buy something else you won’t hurt my feelings. I love the shape and the interior of this car. It’s the total package🏖️
Sitting in one of these (non-convertible) was an experience, everything you touch or feel is super high quality. The fit and finish is impeccable, and this is a mass produced vehicle at that, so it's amazing that it can give off that hand-crafted feel with the superb build quality of a made-in-Japan Lexus.
''Sitting in one of these was an experience'' : certainly if you will directly try the back seat.
@@martinmartin5904 nobody is buying this car for the backseat. Your recreational negativity is actually just stupidity.
I sat in the convertible at a recent auto show. Of all of the cars at the show it was the one I lusted for because it made me feel special.
From the gods of Mount Fuji🗻, the LC 500 ❤️
Guys ignore this Kirk dude, I checked him on LinkedIn, he literally works for a Lexus dealership and is part of their marketing department. He will literally show up on every LC500 video and promote it shamelessly. The guy is a total clown.
Not a Lexus fan, but that’s one of the most beautiful cars I’ve ever seen.
I want to meet the people who told Alex that this car was ugly. They need to have their heads examined by a good shrink. This is by far the most beautiful car being built today. It is my Lotto car so it must be amazing.
One of the best all new cars to ever come out in history.
Can’t wait to see lexus make a 600hp high performance F model of this beauty.
Convertibles are dead. Lexus will not make any high performance version of LC or LS which make sense base on financial profitability. People are not buying those LC500s. Do you own one?
@@lucashuang10 it's wrong to think of Lexus like Toyota, who outsources cars they can't profitably make, or discontinues others that don't sell well enough (FJ Cruiser, Land Cruiser). Toyota is the cash cow, run by beancounters.
Lexus is the Toyota of 25 years ago, when you could buy the MR2 and Supra. Doing "exciting" (by Lexus standards) things, but doing it all themselves with their unequaled commitment to quality.
Yes, this car will never sell well simply based on the price. Watch the savagegeese review, "it's not a spec sheet car"...but he bought one (an '18 LC) after reviewing it. I will likely sell my '00 NSX in the next year to buy one. Honda's fault for not doing a spyder version of the new one.
Doubtful that they make an LC-F based on sales, especially doubtful that they make an -F convertible. It would be nice if these cars got the trans cooler that the RC-F/GS-F get, as transmission overheating appears to be a problem when you push them hard enough.
@@jimmy-buffett hence why due to financial point of view they are discontinuing the GS-F and GS because of low sale number. RCF will likely get axed soon in few years. i currently have a 13 LS460L and i loved it even thought it have consistent control arm issue. however the new LS is not competitive nor its a looker imo. LC is a different story of course. extremely attractive design.
@@jimmy-buffett yes, like Subaru, BMW...
It’s a gorgeous car, no question. Problem is that you can buy an ecoboost Mustang convertible for 35% of the price, and get 95% of the experience. Heated/cooled leather seats, 10 speed auto transmission, great road feel, good looking, better mileage. The other problem of course is that not only are convertibles dead, but coupes and sedans are also dead. Aside from the aforementioned Mustang, for example, Ford has abandoned everything else. Economy cars? Gone. Sport hatch (Focus)? Gone. Fusion sedan? This is the last year, and in fact 2020 was the last official year for that car.
Your review is spot on!! I have the 2020 LC 500 Inspiration Edition and I absolutely LOVE this car!!
The Lexus LC500 is here to do 3 things: Look amazing, sound amazing and feel amazing.
"You can have the rest." - Lexus
But the LS it is based on gets a low 46 out of 100 and last place in the segment according to Consumer Reports.
@@normt430 and your point?
Or are you just sayin’?
I have a 2021 LS and really like it. Spacious extremely well made and super dependable, my 23 LC convertible should be here in about a week. I think these cars are superb. 🏖️
"Make sure their nails aren't digging into the back seats" 💺🐕 I felt that 😂💯
Yes, that was funny.
I was pondering an Audi R8 Spyder, or a BMW i8 roadster, or a C8 convertible. When reliability is factored in, it has to be the Lexus!
It's so good, they even offer it in Europe where they have only hybrids besides this (and the LC 500).
This is one of those cars that makes you ask yourself "how can I make this happen"!
The best car on the market today. It will go down as a Collectors item. It looks and drives fabulous. Combined with impeccable quality and reliability.
Alex, I had the very strange experience of seeing two LC 500s in different parts of town, on the same day. This is in North Atlanta suburbs. Both were hardtops. And both represented two of the best looking cars I have ever seen.
What colors what did you think
@@explanoit One silver/gray, one red.
I'm in Atlanta too. I could see that happening here. Lots of nice cars around.
Saw a red coupe LC 500 yesterday in NYC Midtown yesterday. It was beautiful!
I'm treating myself to a LC 500 coupe, as a retirement reward. What an awesome vehicle!
This car is ONE of reason why Lexus is the best Japanese luxury car brand. Period.
Well Acura isn’t much competition for Lexus lol
@@insainllama And Infiniti even less these days.
Current owner of a 2016 Lexus NX. Use to drive Acura's & Infiniti's. Can't go wrong with any of these options, but Lexus really stands out with long-term reliability and build-qualitiy. My 2016 Lexus still feels news on the streets.
Why compare only to other Japanese? Like saying Ford is better than Dodge or Chevy...
@@normt430 if you like Japanese cars then that’s what you stick too. So when it comes to Japanese luxury cars it don’t get better then lexus
Great comment, thank you, I too fell in love with the LC 500 Convertible. After thinking about it for a week I decided to order the convertible in white w/ tan interior and carmel interior. Should be here in a week or so. Am trading in my beloved yellow Vette. But now that I’m an older guy I want a GT and couldn’t care less about the useless rear seats. Need more room buy a stupid mini van . Yes this is driveway jewelry . But I’m special , and who I choose to have ride with me, my choice, will be special too🏖️
The LC500 is one of the best looking cars I've seen. The infotainment system is not as complicated as many journalists lead on. The concierge does all the climate thinking for the driver.
The only concern I really have is the placement of the cupholder in the coupe. It is so close to the radio/climate knobs that you always hit them. Well, also the seats are snug
The infotainment system is a disaster. You have to pull over to adjust your seat heaters, air scarf etc. Technologically backward
Good job Lexus. 5.0 V8 and rear drive.
I’ve watched more than 20 videos about the LC 500. This is the comprehensive, meticulous, and useful one. You got a new subscriber. Thank you! Well done!
The sound of that v8 gives me goose bumps:)
Using the infotainment system gives me the shits
I think a LC500 with the 4.8L V10 LFA engine would be absolutely amazing.
It will fit. A few software and chassis design changes it could be a real car within the next 10 years. Lexus doesn't do anything quick. Nor worry about trends. The LC 500 in my opinion just like yours would be the only logical choice to bring that V10 back to life. A very special ultra rare limited production LC500 F10 sounds great to me.
@@arrowheadftball and now this just magically rose to well over 200k. The block on the LFA cost 80k alone. Don't know why but that's what the numbers were or are depending h9w you want to look at it.
The opening line slayed me. "Conventional car guy wisdom says the best Lexus ever made is the first generation ls" Soooooo are we just going to completely forget them existence of the Lexus LFA?!?!?
Taken one for a test drive, absolutely loved it ❤️
YAH. YOU'VE DONE A *REAL GOOD JOB WITH THIS PRESENTATION,* MAN. I GIVE YOU AN A++. THANK YOU. THIS IS THE FIRST ONE I'VE SEEN OF YOURS. EXCELLENT.
I'm with you on the spindle grill; it looks perfect on this car. My one complaint would be the seats, but I'd see if i could factory order better seats of install them after market. If my lottery ticket does its job this weekend, I may own one of these on Monday ... gorgeous car.
Seriously? Who in their right minds thinks this car is ugly? The looks are awesome, the sounds are amazing....it's just phenomenal...period. Nice review!
OMG you and those Trunk Scene's crack me up!!! LOL I actually didnt think you would even try,..Thank you..made my day with a good laugh.
My father just bought this exact spec...beautiful car
I have RCF with the same V8. It is my daily and will stay that way until gasoline is hard to get. Love the sound this engine makes and reliability is second to none.
Me too :D. And its not even that bad fuel economy wise for a big V8. Gets only a little bit worse economy overall than the 3rd gen IS350 I had.
I can’t wait for you to review the Ioniq 5 and ev6!!
After I test drove the Lexus LC500, I fell in love with it.
Some day, I will upgrade my Lexus ES350 for a Lexus LC500.
EMOTON is what this car does to me. That has to be one awesome ride.I would be looking at it inside and outside 24/7 LOL
Lexus for life! Glad you liked this lexus normally other lexus scores you don’t give them High
I agree, Alex! The LC500 is beautiful and I would give anything for that naturally-aspirated V8.
Gorgeous car!!
Absolutely beautiful. Although I keep seeing c7 corvette from the rear
Great, thorough review.
Great video, beautiful car.
great review and not that the infotainment system is updated I am shopping for the LC500
Anyone who says the Lexus LC is ugly needs to get their eyes checked. This is probably one of the top 3 cars you can buy new right now in terms of looks and I am being very conservative
Definitely a future collectible, just love the LC500 great looks most comfortable and sounds amazing.
"makes for a great Daily Driver too!" no doubt.
It's a gorgeous car! I wish they made a PHEV or full on BEV.
That's a beautiful car [though I almost can't believe you crawled into that tiny trunk--for me, that stunt would require a follow-up trip to the chiropractor].
I would also cross-shop the LC with the C8 Corvette. Both cars are great grand tourers and can be fun when you want them to. You get a lot more for the money with the Corvette though. The Corvette is more visceral and can be really brutal when you want it to be.
Thanks for the demonstration of the rear seat space. Makes me sad as I need a usable backseat. Which convertibles and sports cars would you recommend with a good backseat?
Anybody who thinks this car is ugly needs to see both an optometrist and an MD. You nailed it.
I love the coupe, in that color
Edit: And I would buy it just for the NA 5l V8
It’s simply stunning
Ugly? I don’t think so. My 2023 LC500 Convertible should be here next week. I think it’s stunning, just beautiful 🏖️
Yes, I'm going to strap in the chihuahua into the back seat and hope it doesn't catch a vortex right outta there! LOL! NO dog of mine would be riding in this beauty! This has to be one of the finest-looking luxury sport coupes made today.
Perfect car to get a ticket on Hwy. 17 at the Summit.
I love the design!
Gorgeous, especially with the tan-colored interior!
You can make the argument that the original LS400, from 1989, may still be the greatest Lexus ever, based on market significance. It was so far ahead of the rest of the industry, that Lexus was able to build an international brand around it. It not only embarrassed the Mercedes Benz S-Class of its time, but it severely slowed sales of the next S-Class, the legendary W140, because it was twice as expensive as the LS
Bought a 2020 Range Rover Velar R-Dynamic P380 in August 2020 that was 8 months old and a lease return that was 87k MSRP for 69k with 4K miles on it. Goes 0-60 in 5 seconds. 22 inch wheels and black with red accents. Now worth 73k.
Bought 2019 C7 Corvette Grand Sport red with carbon fiber and black wheels 2 years ago with 2800 miles on it for 54k and was 79k MSRP. Now worth 75k.
Pandemic messed up housing and car
values and temporary.
The LC500 is a beautiful car but would buy a used one with low miles. Need to make it more of a better driving experience as every review says the same thing.
Very nice looking car. Superb exterior/interior, natural V8, but I feel like Lexus has given up with the latest tech and performance on their recent vehicles.
I would personally go for E class convertible and save extra cash for maintenance or sell it before.
whoever thinks the lc is one of the ugliest vehicles needs to see an optometrist this second.. the presence when you come across one on the road is like no other car. perfect proportions.
Hi Alex, will you be doing a review of the 2024 LC 500 to fill us in on the refresh? If so, will it be this summer since they hit the US in June? Thanks!
Exclusive Trunk Comfort Score: 3/10
Exclusive Decapitation Score: 8/10 **BEST IN CLASS**
Once I saw the amber turn signals the video title made sense.
Imagine hiking and seeing Alex in the trunk 😂 just keep waking 🚶🏻♀️
The SL is what LC convertible wants to be when it grows up. Just like the Lexus SC Convertible in the 2000's. Too bad Lexus couldn't afford the glass roof like the SL.
Couldn't agree more. The LC 500 is the most beautiful vehicle they've ever produced and one of the most beautiful on the road today. I absolutely love that car.
Fantabulous GT Chic elegance
Saw one of these on the hwy the other day, and, not surprisingly, there was an elderly man driving.
I completely forgot about the 8 series.
Yessssss sir friend!! ❤️❤️
I heard that the S-class cabriolet is being discontinued in favor of the new SL that's going to be based on the next generation AMG GT.
Get ‘em while you can, before SUVs take over the entire market
I do like a quiet convertible. It’s already enough to have road noise to compete with your conversation or your audio; it’s silly to have a roaring exhaust note overlaying all that
I guess I'll just have to make due with my ls460, stunning car perhaps one day? Lexus V8's one of the best!!
I would love to get me one of these,... unfortunately in my country the base price for one is US$ 231.000 which is a little over my paygrade. (if it were 101.000 I would have one already)
perfection, im interested to know what cars do the people who found it ugly drive
What I notice is the damage on the right front chin
Yes it is…….I agree 100%
That soft-top had better be really soft if you're more than six feet tall, even in the front seat. Also, what rollover protection is there?
There are 2 spring up steel rollover bars that will activate when needed in the storage area of top. Just bought mine mine a month ago and best all around car I have ever owned by far!
i really like the exterior of the new LC not the interior the local lexus dealer has a bunch parked so you see em from every angle as you pass by.
The LC 500 is to Lexus what the 560SL (1984-1988) was to Mercedes, back when Mercedes built beautiful and indestructible cars meant to last, not the junk they build now. Also, Alex, Mark the “ Savage Goose” (whom you may have met at press junkets) owns an LC and is a HUGE Lexus evangelist. Anyone hit like if you agree with me on the Benz comparison or tell me why you might disagree. I’m curious.
You got it Ohad.
Mercedes doesn’t make junk. The AMG GT Black series is the fastest car around the Nurburgring, the S class and upcoming EQS are the most high tech cars on sale and most car reviewers have said that the E63s wagon is the best all around car in the world
@@kristians2704 I agree with all of what you said: those are incredibly fast machines. Mercedes also makes elegant cars. But they are not built to last like the old ones. I doubt you’re going to see a 2022 S class with 200,000 miles on its original engine and transmission which would be rising in value in 20 years. In a museum as the ultimate luxury car with an internal combustion engine before. Mercedes transitioned the S class to electric? Maybe under that circumstance. Meanwhile, a 1973 380SL with 200,000 miles (and a new timing chain) still looks great and can more than hold its own in modern traffic. And their values have shot up in just the last 6 months. But I’m biased: I own an 81 240D.
I have determined I deserve an LC, a fancy shopping bag full of fancy baubles, and a fluffy dog. I'm started a Go Fund Me! Such a beautiful car!
King of the Road
Do they make a manual transmission, or is that already a thing of the past?
Lexus should make a 4 door version of the hard top and call it LC504.
Bro the LFA is in a completely different league. 0 comparison with the LC500.
My next car!
As a long-time 911 fan, I agree that the LC has a more attractive exterior (and interior for that matter). I’ve only seen one in white in person. What is the best color on the LC? The red is attractive but I don’t like the caramel interior…
Yeah, that particular shade of leather looks more like it should be a saddle, handbag or luggage.
I have a red convertible with the black interior. Would not have it any other way! The only other possibility of another car I would consider is the C8 Z06 flat plane crank when it comes out. I am on a list for one and can only hope I can afford to keep both cause this LC 500 is a sweetheart ❤️!
Nice review.
I'm not into convertibles -- imho, coupe looks much better.
I agree, but think this is one of the better decapitations of recent decades. It is better as a coupe, but this is still beautiful.
No doubt ALEX…that’s what am talking about..this car might look simple but its one hot shot in a class by itself hands down..I luv it 👍🏾
LEXUS 👌🏻😎 TOP QUALITY TOP LUXURY
LEXUS LC 😍👍🏻 TOP DREAM CAR
I want to like this car, but it’s unacceptable that the flagship gets worse seats and HUD than the lower priced LS. Those are too important to compromise, just raise the price a few thousand, the buyers won’t even notice.
It's simply that the current LS is newer. Automakers rarely go back and completely redo tech features aside from a major refresh. This is a slow-selling model and the tech isn't that bad, aside from there not being a touchscreen.
Anyone who says LC is an ugly car should see a dr immediately! 😂
This or a Jag F-Type p450?
The weight of that car is far more about the extra frame stiffening to make up for lack of a hard top than it is about the engine.
