The show was decent. I think what really hurt it, is that had to live up to the high expectation of the book and movie. The book and movie are both beloved by anyone that’s experienced either. Maybe if they did the show a few years later or tweaked a bit to make it it’s one thing that was influenced by The Outsiders, instead of being sequel tv series of a movie, it may have been received better. I feel the cast did a great a job. Only people that bothered me a little bit were the actors playing Ponyboy and Soda. I really can’t put my finger on it either. Of course I’d rather have Patrick Swayze and Emilio Estevez, but the original cast were successful Hollywood actors at the time. I can’t blame them for wanting to be stars in movies than playing on a tv show were many would be secondary characters. I feel the cast works because in The Outsiders only three to five characters get significant screen time, Ponyboy, Johnny, Dallas, and you can argue Two-Bit and Cherry. Out of those five two die, so that’s two less replacements to worry about. Plus, the actors that play Two-Bit and especially Cherry did a great job. I don’t get why Soda bothered me so much. Rob Lowe was in the film for five-ten minutes and that’s if you’re watching the director’s cut. He just did a great job that it was offensive to recast him, I’m joking of course. Sorry for the long post.
Thanks for the comment. I def agree. Most adaptations of movies are going to fail, with some notable exceptions like M*A*S*H. It seems the closer they get to the movie, the more likely the fail. Ferris Bueller, Fast Times, Bill & Ted's. It can be kind of lazy, opportunism, instead of creating something new like 21 Jump Street.
This is a great video with a lot of great details! Thank you for sharing this and putting all of the information together! I think the show had a lot of potential and could have went on. I believe some of the characters attitudes changed because of them dealing with their friend's death as they died young. Good writing on the writer's part, but several comments online don't see it that way and believe they are out of character. Overall, the book, movie, and show are excellent. I am happy that a user uploaded the episodes that are very obscure. Perhaps somewhere out there in someone's VHS tapes, they also recorded the episodes. Have a wonderful day and thank you again :).
wow, thanks so much for that. I was a huge fan of the movie and book, but being in Canada I didn't get FOX that early so only discovered the show thanks to you tube. It's hard, people complain if too much is changed, and complain if too much is the same so it lacks originality.
@@gen-x-dad I didn't know that about Canada. I live near the border. I thought there was a Fox Canada of some kind. And yes, I agree. There's going to be some sort of 'cliche' angst to it, being a teen drama. This show I think went around it and was original. It didn't feel like a soap is what I mean. At least the episodes are around to watch. I'm happy it's still being discussed. I hope you have a wonderful day! :D.
@@CCucumber so as Canadians we basically got the Canadian channels (who picked up most U.S. prime time shows). A network like CTV might have shows from ABC, CBS, and NBC, mixed in with original Canadian content, Having "cable" when I was a kid meant you got the U.S. channels. Here in Winnipeg we got the channels from North Dakota, but later that changed to Detroit. We did get FOX at some point, but it was the Rochester NY channel. We also got PBS with that package. You could get HBO or the Canadian versions SuperChannel but that was just for the rich folks. Of course eventually everything exploded and we got the U.S. cable networks, and/or the Canadian versions (MTV or MuchMusic).
@@gen-x-dad Oh wow. That is interesting! Yes, I always get told of stories where people around me would have eight channels and you were stuck with that. Then cable came around our parts. Where we live, we do get Canadian channels like TVO, CTV. We also get Kingston news. That is interesting you get a channel as far as Rochester but I realize being a regular tv channel, you could get it.
hi i like the outsiders 83 film and 1990 tv show version i wish they had more seasons but it was cut to short also elvis 90s tv series it didnt last based on elvis presley life the early years in the 50s i watched both on sunday nights elvis was on abc channel 4 at 8pm and the outsiders tv show at 9 pm they were gd shows at least we all can rewatch them on youtube
didn't take long though for most of those guys to make it big. It would be hilarious to have a reboot now with Estevez. Howell, Lowe, 30 years later..it would make it set in mid-late 90's...
Thanks. I guess it just gets compared to the beloved movie and book. Would have been really interesting if the show had been allowed to develop over many years.
My only problem with the show was that they weren't the original stars. After watching the movie you can't have people other than them playing the characters. It just doesn't feel right.
Hey if you enjoyed this video please check out this one next about why the Hardy Boys were cancelled ua-cam.com/video/uR-OGDLAv9s/v-deo.html
I remember when this show came out I watched it every week and was so mad when season 2 never came out!!
That is still the worst feeling, even today. thanks for watching!

This show wouldn't have gotten so much hate if the original cast had come back to play the roles.

Thanks for the compliment

yes, it seemed like a cheap imitation. many shows had the same fate like Fast Times and Bill & Teds. Thanks for the comment.
Is there anywhere we can watch this besides the ones on UA-cam? I'd even buy the series if anybody can point out if it's sold. TIA.
I just remember the movie. I had the biggest crush on Diane lane. Still do
It just wasnt that good tbh
