He's experienced it all himself & cannot recommend him enough. Just do a search with his name & whatever topic you're interested in. He's helped me in a huge way. Hugs....

When we were faced with raising our infant grandchildren I remember standing in the middle of our house asking God how I could survive. We downsized! We later home schooled and downsized even more. Minimalism sure is a way of life. I found Fly lady and we actually did survive and had a great time. Our grandchildren are now successful adults. One is ready to graduate college. One is an entrepreneur with a brand new great grandson for me to love. And they don't like clutter!

I can tell by your voice how hard you‘ve been on yourself - if you ever feel down again, please read this: You put yourself out here to help and encourage others, and that’s huge! You expose yourself to possible criticism, the kind of criticism social media platforms are known for - that’s outright brave! And you did an exceptional job turning your living space and habits around, dragging yourself out of the dark. That’s almost unbelievable.
You should be damn proud of yourself!

It is so relaxing, not like what I'm dealing with and im so glad you remind us you have real life challenges but the minimal choices make it easier to deal with them when they come instead of hitting the panic button the way I do. I understand your challenges, Rachel. I also suffered from (periodic) depression and take medication for it. There have been days that I don't want to get out of bed. Thankfully, I'm enjoying freedom from that at the moment. I'm decluttering and doing some much needed deep spring cleaning. It's slow going since I can do only so much at a time (I'm 78), but I get a great deal of satisfaction at the end result. Thank you for opening up to us. We need to know we're not alone in this.

Thank you for sharing your experience with depression. I also have occasional symptoms of depression, beyond what my medication handles. I embrace minimalism, and organization, when I have these symptoms, I just don’t want to do anything and ask myself why? Fortunately I am able to pull out of it with rest and prayer.
I am glad your Stephen is doing okay. I had one child that I had to do CPR on twice, once he was life flighted. It took me years before I could even talk about it without crying. He is 23 now and doing well. However I did loose a daughter after a 7 year battle with addiction. Nobody knows or could understand what a mother has on her plate. We look so intact, organized and in control. You are so right we can pull off that image when the dishes and laundry are done and the house is in order. I am older now, empty nested and look back and wonder how I did it.
Thank you for sharing and allowing me to share. I used to think I was the only one.

I relate so much to you. I'm a momma to 8 . My oldest is 19 now and my baby 4. I feel like as I have grown in age and grown in wisdom as a mom I am at a good place where I realize how my home influences my mood a lot. I wish it didn't but I can't really start the day off well without doing a reset of sorts. All surfaces need to be cleared, dishes done floors washed. My mind gets overwhelmed by visual clutter and I have a hard time concentrating till it's taken care of. I'm not sure if others experience this.

I struggle with depression too (especially this time of year). We're all different though. My therapist has been encouraging me to leave things out and not put everything away. It's specific to me and my situation, so what works for some, doesn't work for all. I do like the idea of taking time to reset, and being ready to make food or spend time with people.

I wanted to let you know that out of all the declutter videos I have watched yours is the only one that has actually made me think I can do it. Especially this one because the things that you’re talking about are things that I have gone through for my entire life actually but I started today on my kitchen. I did not do the whole kitchen I have to admit but I did do most of it so it really made me feel good when I got through. I’ve realized lightly that part of my problem for having so many things I don’t need anymore is because I live alone and am 60 something 🤪 and for some reason there’s a part of me that’s afraid to throw something away because I might need it and not have any money to buy it with. I just wanted to let you know that whether you realize it or not you are a blessing from God so thank you.💗💗

Thank your your honesty and openness. I can relate to you in many ways-depression, routines, baking sourdough bread regularly, simplifying, being a wife and mother and grandmother. Your home seems peaceful. Good job on working through the challenges. It takes extra effort when you’re feeling down, but I appreciate your example.
PS I’ve learned that letting the dough raise overnight in what amounts to 10-12 hours really does work. I think it enhances the natural yeast process of pre-digesting the gluten. At least that’s what I’ve heard. Anyway, there is nothing like fresh homemade bread when you come home from school. Yumm!

Thank you for sharing about depression. I've had depression all my life. What helps me is knowing that it will pass. It always passes, just a matter of waiting it out and knowing it WILL pass. If I dwell in it, it will lead me into an even worse situation. What also helps me is to think of it kind of like the flu, it comes over me, and then it passes. Accept the situation, it doesn't define me as a person, it's just an illness. I just carry on as best I can. You wouldn't hold it against yourself if had the flu. You'd cut yourself a little break and get the rest and nourishment you need, right?

I know exactly what you mean having those days where you have a pity party or spend all day beating yourself up. But sometimes I think it's necessary to allow yourself to have a pity party but set a limit, for example, by 5:00, I try to start moving forward focusing on what it was trying to tell me. I'm still a work-in-progress and I was diagnosed with anxiety and depression years ago. There are times when I think will I ever feel myself again. And so hard on myself oh, I would never treat anyone else the way I speak to myself in my mind. It builds up and sometimes I feel like it helps me just to surrender and listen to the single message my thoughts are trying to tell me. I really need to get out of that all-or-nothing thinking when I have one of those days. Like days where I think I suck at this, I ask myself is it true? Yes at times, but there are a lot of times when I don't suck at it. Being a stay-at-home mom is very intense emotional labor on top of trying not to expect perfection within ourselves. I am pregnant with my third and I have learned that doing things good enough because I am so exhausted, is good enough. I used to think tidying-up was about tidying and then pulling things out and cleaning and then at the end of the day I'm starting back at square one and it looks like I've done nothing lol

Thank you from me as well about talking about depression and how it can affect your ability to do things. I love it that you got yourself into a routine, so that these are "things I do", like I wash the dishes, I clean the counters and the sinks, I do the laundry. I am still trying to get control of all these things and more to hopefully at some point stop getting them to the point of overwhelm.

I've been watching your videos as the pop up in my feed, for the past few days, and I just want to say thank you! My kitchen has been a disaster the past few weeks, because my dishwasher isn't working correctly, which is frustrating, and for the past few days I've managed to handwash every single dirty dish. 😂 Only problem now is it's technically my kids job to put away the clean dishes, and they haven't done that yet, but at least the dishes are clean!

Sometimes feeling out of control can make you find comfort in the things you can control - like dishes! Sometimes you just need a day to vegg. i think it's healthy, unless it turns into six days or six months! Someone told me once, it's o.k. to be a human being, you don't have to be a human doing all the time. I've been really enjoying your videos, thanks for making time to help others. Oh, and maybe delegate some of that stuff! I know, I do it all too...

Thank you for sharing. I respect and admire you for being so honest. My house isn’t always clean and perfectly picked up. When that happens I question myself. Then I see this video and realize, it’s ok. It’s normal to have a mess from time to time. It’s living. But, being minimal means I can tidy up with relative ease. I do want you to know that bc I watch your videos, I started cleaning on Saturdays. Prior, I cleaned on Monday’s....Tuesday’s...Wednesday’s..... lol.... never really getting the house completely done. I always felt that the weekends were for family and relaxing. But I love cleaning on Saturday’s without the added distraction of appointments and emails. So, now, I clean on Saturday’s and I enjoy it. Thank you. It was as if you gave me permission. See, you never know how you effect the lives of other’s.
