Instrument Landing System approach Essendon Airport

- Flying the ILS Approach (Instrument Landing System) from Moorabbin Airport to runway 26 at Essendon Airport with a full stop landing. This flight was part of a training flight for my Instrument Rating to practise ILS approaches and flying in controlled airspace - Melbourne's Class C.
Thanks as always to my Instructor Steve for allowing me to film this. I have, as always, removed his instructional content from this film to protect his IP, and because I am not an instructor (see below) so please only use this footage for entertainment only.
Aircraft is VH-LCM a Piper Arrow P28R retractable CSU.

Very nice video... the IFR ticket is the best ticket you can get. It will allow you to fly on those "no so good" days.

Thanks Louis. Yes on longer legs we'd use the autopilot to maintain heading. It's just a wing-leveller in this particular Arrow, so heading hold only, no altitude hold. Thanks for watching, Stef 👍

A mere 6 six years late 😂. At 5:17 , on short final, what is that beeping? I always hear it on other videos and in the sim, and have no clue what it means. Could you explain it for me?

Hello, firstly wow this video is a blast from the past, thanks for letting me relive it! That beeping is a tone transmitted from what's called the "middle marker". Basically in the pre-GPS days it was a way to tell how far you were from a fixed point. So a precision approach (like the ILS here) would have an Outer, Middle, and Inner marker all with different tone patterns so you know where you are on the approach just from listening to the tones. Search Wikipedia for "Marker Beacon" and there's a good description and examples there of what they do. Thanks, all the best.

Your personality cheers me up. Did you do the CPL/IR at RVAC? I did a CPL there years ago.
Thanks Julian, that's a nice thing to hear. I did my CPL in Sydney actually, with a company called Red Baron. Did my IR with Peter Bini Advanced Flight Training with the legendary Steve Pearce. I've flown with the RVAC a couple of times, but just area familiarisation flights, no specific flight training.
