The only other one of these I've ever seen came back in a 3DS after warranty service.
Somebody got fired for that.
Do you still have it BTW?
@@compitalc sadly it wasn't mine
This is the kind of diagnostic tool I'd buy, even a minimalist version. Something that can actually diagnose the overall status of high-use device components to determine if they just need recalibration or a full replacement.
User-friendly shouldn't just be easy to use, but also easy to diagnose. Stress caused by malfunctions shouldn't be underestimated.
Amen I'd get that myself I'd get that for my 3ds I have

This would be great for every person that repairs the 2ds and 3ds handhelds to have.
We have open source homebrew versions. And nobody fixing DSs these days isnt hacking them.
RE: the crashes, some of them may be from functions left over from the DS era that simply work on the DS, others may require the 3DS to be connected to a computer to work (the IMPORT function comes to mind).
How does the test cart appear in the system activity log? I've sent my system in for repair before and the day it was tested had a game with a lot of question marks for its name.
"Testing Testing TESTING!" 📢📢📢📢📢📢
-Bart Simpson 😂
haha
Beautiful reference
Dang, I never seen that type of Nintendo 3DS Cartilage before. I never thought that was an official Nintendo testing product, I thought that was one of these unofficial made bootleg cartilages in the thumbnail.
Cartridge
cartilidge lol
Should have seen the official n64 development cart. That thing is three cartridges tall.
Cartilage lmao
@zomfragger Are you talking about the one was for a prototype of Padel de Pon 64 that was originally planned to come to the N64 or is there a N64 Cart larger than that?
Interesting, I found out about the codes you can put in your phone keypad to run tests a few years back. I love this kind of stuff
I'll answer everyone's question : YES IT HAS BEEN DUMPED, YOU ARE YEARS LATE
Does it require specific hardware? Could it possibly be reversed engineered into something like GM9?
@@bituniverse8677 CTRaging is a dev app that has the NoCrypto flag set in its NCCH header. In other words you can install it straight away, no matter if you have a retail console or a devkit.
About reverse engineering the app : forget about it
@@mrkrabsx8669that’s straight up false information, no idea where you get that from.
CTRAging is retail signed and only runs on retail hardware, not devkits
@@bituniverse8677 i think it already is
Thanks for saying it
It was a pleasure meeting you at the socal gaming expo… I’m sad you didn’t bring your system with you 😢 please bring it next time so we can streetpass 😊

John Riggs and the 3DS
A wonderfull policy???
I just sent them a new 3DS XL and they're sending me back a new 2DS XL...
Like BRUH!!! I'm the only Nintendo fan on earth that used the 3D display and they taking it away from me!
Seriously not happy with this!
Oof
New 3DS XL has been out of production for some time now, they likely literally don't have any left to give you.
My man, the 2DS XL has the latest hardware and is the EASIEST to repair.
Also I thought their repair program ended...
@@JamesTDG NEW NNEEWW 3DS XL
And i don't give a F about the firmware. I want the 3D screen! -_-
That kind of test software should just be included in the firmware as standard
When John said "one of these is to test your mic," I heard "test your *might* instead of mic. Maybe I need to play less Mortal Kombat 😂
Yes
I still hear test your might in my sleep from playing MK1 so much back in the day. Good times, always had trouble beating my dad's speed at it
Can you make a dump of it?
3ds would be great, cia cool too.
It would help to test 3ds faulty units with these
Already was
I wanna know what the switch dev kits or developer tools looked like. This is awesome
I love that arcade / Roller Rink artwork mat.
That's a cool and rare collector piece.
This was used for system testing during manufacturing, It's a quality control hardware diagnostic card or batch test card. Some would be updated to be used in the repair department as a hardware diagnostics card or replaced with a newer smaller card. There are similar cards for the DS and switch also.
Can you reach out ? It would be great to get this dumped asap
it would be great for preservation if he wants to
There are tens of copies of CTRaging available out there, use google
Turns out the cartridge was already dumped several years back
@@JamesTDGwhere has it been dumped? Looks like something neat to fiddle with
@JamesTDG are you sure there are hunderts of different 3ds Aging cartridges
I got it from… I ain’t no snitch!
“It fell off the back of a truck”
😂😂😂
I love the 3DS Aging Factory cartridges, I have three of them :)
You should look and listen to the audio test it will play all the sounds stored on the ds
Oh Sh#t i live just up the road from you and heard pidder padder of Nintendo ninjas feet crossing my roof and their heading your way…Riggs run run I tell ya 🙏🏽
Why was that never a public device, so many could have used that
Not me, but still, that is just handy
I have a reproduction aging cart for the GBA and that lcd test you showed is pretty similar to the aging test on the GBA cart there you have to keep pressing A and it'll go though some colors, images and logo's. You can also set a timer and it will loop the test on its own until the timer runs out.
That 3DS cart looks like one of Sony's Memory Sticks that they used in older Cyber-Shot cameras.
nintendo 3ds cartridge the long way
nintendo 3ds cartridge the long way
You should get this cart to someone who can dump it... It might not work without whatever hardware is in the cartridge, but it would be cool to find out
The numbers on the back looks like a serial number, which could be used to identify the original owner by Nintendo.
I've never seen a 3DS cartridge THAT long
"im not a snitch"
-proceeds to keep exposing serial number-
I would guess that they also have a machine that tests things like the analog stick that is also calibrated, so there's consistency in the inputs.
My 3ds would fail so many tests
Like I can’t even use the friggin photos app or take pictures without it freezing up after like 2 minutes and having to long press the power button for a whole 10 seconds to turn it off
We found it guys. Contact Nintendo HQ Immediately.
😂
You better dump that down for everyone to use.

peanut butter jelly the long way
The Check Stability option is a anti robbing option tbh.
I know for a fact mine would fail because my cameras are fucked up lmao
Ask theRetroFuture. He's pretty much an expert on Nintendo handhelds
John needs to voice act some NPC sometime. Very naturally animated voice ❤
You should donate this to your local retro game store so they can test trade ins. Make it useful for the community. As long as it all works properly. Thank you for your time.
has anyone dumped one of these as a CIA/3dsx? i wouldn't be surprised if the cart has special hardware inside but it'd still be good to do for preservation
Already was
Great video, John.
Did you get the ANA Streetpass Puzzle Swap Panel? 😮
Need one of this so much.
Yes it was for testing
Have you attempted to dump this cartridge to the net? would be neat to install it digitally.
i want this to happen, i wanna try and rip the sounds from this but i've never ripped anything 3ds related yet.
Interesting how it makes the red status light turn on when there’s an error. Regular 3DS software can’t do that.
it is a thumb stick so maybe if you used you thumb to do the test it would be smoother to complete the stick tests
3:45 That's an assertion... I'd be concerned if the application allows for more than restarting.
maybe you can give this card to someone who can dump it, so it will be available as a rom for everyone. think about it! 🙏🙏
I was thinking the same thing. Be useful for maintenance and repair as time goes on since support has been stopped.
Its areadey dumped @@frothyground7075
bug testing for qc. Nothing too exciting and I'm surprised there isn't more out there tbh.
This makes me wanna 100% Mgs3d again for some reason.
They use these to test the stuff on the console to make sure the stuff works
Interesting, especially that the cartridge is elongated!
Might you try my homebrew named noise commander 3ds?
Since Nintendo no longer supports the 3DS family of systems, this includes the 2DS, so Nintendo won’t care. They are only going after those who modify or hack the Nintendo Switch family of systems.
Wild stuff
You know, if you are ever interested in selling such an incredibly unique 3DS artifact, I know a nice 3DS collecting couple who might be willing to take that off your hands 🤔😳
It's all fun and games until you hit Debug 26 and hear, "This console will self-destruct in 5... 4... 3...", and you're still staring at it, wondering what it's going to do 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤯
Lets be honest, Nintendo doesn't really care if you have some test cartridge used for testing 3DS, nor is gonna go after your embassador whatever...These have been long documented and know to people, it's no trade secret at this point. It's the same with old Dev kits.
Still, cool showcase / footage of the tests!
I wouldn't worry Nintendo may still try to sue you anyways knowing Nintendo.
I did not know that something like that existed for 3ds
When are you going to show us your game room? I like to see how many games you have
Iirc the banner for it is actually invalid or something so nothing shows up
Bro bought the 3DS terminal 😂
hi there! do you think you could dump the cart and possibly upload it to the internet archive if at all possible? i'd love to pick at it a bit!
They also use those cards to remove Homebrew content
Like homebrew launcher
Has it been dumped already?
yes
Randomly stumbled on this video. Very interesting find
I've never been to Vaughan Con. Going to check it out.❤
I need one. Would've been useful
I wonder if the expanded section houses a SD card so they could easily update the testing rom?
You should dump the rom for it if you can.
Already was
Already has been dumped years ago
*Nintendo would like to know your location*
They already have it.. probably has a GPS tracker in it... lol
The gatekeeping is INSANE
Cuz it was dumped years ago dawg
@@Chipmunkboy I wanna buy it though and google isnt helping too much 😭
You look like a Nintendo brand manager.
Drake’s 3ds cart
Nahh, 😧😧😧😧😧
At first i thought "oh this is probably one of those kiosk things". But it ended up being more interesting then that. Also man i forgot how silly yhe 2ds looked.
Where's that hat from? I'm pretty sure it says 1977 Yakima on the bottom. Yakima, WA is my hometown 🍻
imagine having that in a new 3ds xl
It’s basically the 3ds/2ds equivalent of those obd things they plug into your car to test various electronics and etc
I like your phone case!
6"3 Nintendo cartridge 💀
The forbidden long boi
I’d try the Contra code on it just for shiggles. 😆
Long boy cart
not the extendo 😂😂😂
3ds cartridge the long way
I want to get one of those.
I need to get my 3DS XL replaced with a new2DS XL...
Very interesting! do similar cartridges exist for the Nintendo Switch, and if so, what are they officially called?
make a backup
I wonder whats in it after u dump the content, am really curious
o please since when should Nintendo not put this cart to the public
is the cartridge able to calibrate the touchscreen, an d i mean not just the edges and the center?
Was this tool created with ImGUI? It really looks similar
