Who has the Strongest Claims in the South China Sea or the West Philippine Sea - China or the Philippines?
The Philippines is entitled to a 200-nm EEZ and continental shelf as measured from its new
archipelagic baselines. That entitlement includes sovereignty over features which are classified
as low-tide elevations, such as Reed Bank and Mischief Reef. Under international
law, these features are not susceptible to sovereignty or occupation. Chinese interference with the
Philippines’ use and management of their continental shelf resources is illegal. Other features
within the KIG which are being illegally occupied by the China and Taiwan include Subi Reef
(Zhubi Reef), Zhongzhou Jio Reef, Gaven Reef, McKennan Reef, and Cornwallis South Reef.
The arbitral panel will hopefully play an important but small role in helping advance conflict
resolution in the South China Sea. These disputes are likely to remain, because it is unlikely that
any court would ever award a single country title to all of the disputed features in the South
China, and, thus, it is necessary to undertake a feature-by-feature examination of the positions of
each country.
As regards the Philippines, these legal conclusions are reached:
The Philippines has a superior claim to Scarborough Shoal.
Reed Bank should be legally classified as a feature which is part of the Philippine
continental shelf.
The ubiquitous KIG claim by the Philippines carries little legal weight. It stands on the
same footing as the nine-dashed-line claim. Also, it was made later than the claims of
China, the ROC, and Vietnam.
The Philippines has a superior claim to four specific high-tide elevations in the KIG
based on a principle of first discovery and effective occupations - namely, West York,
Nanshan Island, Flat Island, and Lankiam Cay.

Because it is a stupid claim. Only a m*ron thinks that it makes sense to draw dash lines across a whole sea that is hundreds of kilometers away from your own shore and say, "Oh, this is mine because you know, history."
First, the whole stretch of South China Sea has never been China's territory. In fact, one of the evidences that the Philippines submitted to the international tribunal was the Map of China during Ming Dyanasty that says that the last island of China is Hainan Island. It is very clear that the whole South China is is not China's territory even on its old dynasties.
Second, the Philippines is not claiming the whole South China Sea but only the islands near the Philippines and its corresponding sovereign waters under UNCLOS.
Third, the Philippines defeated China in terms of historical evidence since Philippines has this old Murillio Velarde Map in 1734. While China's 9-dashed line that claims the whole South China Sea was just proclaimed by China on 1947 and no one acknowledged it.
Fourth, both Philippines and China is a signatory on UNCLOS, so both should respect the UNCLOS.
The Hague court based on UNCLOS already decided that the 9-dashed line self claim of China is illegal. China should respect that as a signatory. But China with a lot of power and greed wants everything and disrespect UNCLOS and its neighbors. Using military force to claim what is not theirs and harass weak countries.

Yet, at the same time, in this same video, the creator uses graphics and maps that also overstates Philippine's own claims and position, against the counter claims of another ASEAN nations with territorial and EEZ dispute with the Philippines. What's presented is not status quo, nor is it exactly ASEAN's position. ASEAN's position differs between and among member states.

Philippines have no historical records on so called ‘Philippines West Sea’ whereas China have historical records since Han Dynasty and recent 1945 Potsdam Declaration by US , Russia, UK, the winning power of WWII. Upon Japan surrender, the SAN Francisco Treaty 1945 agreed to return all islands occupied by Japan including islands of South China Sea.

China is not weak anymore, it can now look USA straight in the eye, and also at het neighbors like Philippines for allowing her tormentor to establish bases in their lands. Asean Analytics you should do more research and understand clause 298 of Uniclos and how the kangaroo court of US violated that uniclos clause and China’s legitimate rights to that area based on the treaty of Taipei.
