50-pt Spray Lubrication Project For Your Car

Cars get old and they start squeaking all over the place. Metal parts rust, plastic cracks and gets brittle, and rubber dry rots. I sprayed 50 (or somewhere close to that) metal, plastic and rubber points in this video, using a combination of WD40, white lithium grease and silicone spray. Listen to the sweet sound of silence after you're done spraying your old junker.

I use motorcycle chain grease on my door hinges - it lasts forever and keeps the dirt out of the hinge for at least a year.

Well that was missing about 40 points of lubrication. Video title states 50 and only stated around 10. Let it also be known that WD40 is not a lubricant, it is a water displacement spary made of fish oil. Yes many people use it as a lubricant but it's affects are short lived when used in that manner. Using it in the door lock is however a good idea if the vehicle is located somewhere that snowfall and freezing temps occur becuase like its name says its a "water displacement" thus it helps prevent water being able to saturate and freeze. It can be used on door seals to prevent stickiing frozen doors in the winter however it will dry out the gaskets faster so a double edge sword it is.

Using "fluid film" on those door hinges will last 10X longer than WD40! Those silicone sprays are fine for the SHORT term, but you have to re-apply them EVERY month! As for the transmission linkage, since you've taken the cover off the transmission tunnel, why not use "lubriplate" GREASE, instead of that "light duty" spray!!

What would be the best towel for wiping away the excess lubricant, a microfiber towel or something else?

Some silicone sprays have petroleum distillates ... something to consider if you're spraying rubber components

Most part of WD40 is an mineral oil, so it's more lube than cleaner.
