Programming instructions
IMPORTANT: Before entering programming mode, have in possession all of the GM remote transmitters you will be using on the vehicle. Once you program the transmitter, all previous codes will be erased from the memory if not reprogrammed during the same programming procedure. The other transmitters will not be functional until you program the transmitters again with new remote.
1. Close all vehicle doors.
2. Insert the key into the ignition.
3. Hold down the power UNLOCK button on the driver's door panel and -continue to hold down until instructed to release.
4. Perform steps 5 through 8 in fairly rapid succession.
5. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position (as far as you can go without starting the engine).
6. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
7. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
8. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
9. Release the power unlock button on the door panel. The vehicle will lock and unlock the doors automatically to confirm remote programing or learning mode.
10. Hold down the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on the remote transmitter simultaneously until the door locks and unlocks. This step may take up to 30 seconds.
11. Repeat the previous step for each additional car transmitter (including any existing transmitters).
12. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position in order to exit the transmitter programming mode.
Dude, thanks, I have a chevy trailblazer, the main remote wasnt working, fixed it immediately.
The mechanic guy didnt even know what he was doing in the first place, he was already telling me that i needed to buy a new remote...
Again, Thanks.
Thanks for this, I found another procedure and it didn't work. Because it was wrong. Almost gave up and returned remotes. I had bought a 2002 S10 and it had the code for keyless but came with only a key. I asked the seller once I suspected it came from the factory with keyless (code UA0 on glove box door). But he said he didn't know anything about it. So I bought two remotes for it. Now I can do it correctly. Edit: I programmed them using this method and it took less than 2 minutes. They both work great. Thanks again.
Thanks alot , I bought this remote on Amazon for $20 and i watched this video and it took me 5Mins and i did it after one year without keyless entry . After all this time .Thanks again
If you are not getting the initial response from the truck (by the doors locking and unlocking) you may need to reboot the truck's electrical system and try the programming again. Simply disconnect one of the truck's battery cables for about 15 mins, reconnect, and then try the programming again. If you still do not get a response from the truck, you may have to consult a dealer or an automotive locksmith. If the truck responds and the remote does not, you may have a bad remote.
Thank you for your kind comment. I am glad we were able to save you money. Those do it yourself key fob remote programming instructions for GMC Yukon really work. we have been in business for almost 10 years. We know this stuff.
yes indeed! thanx very much! i have a 2001 suburban & my key remote stopped working! dealer wanted $70 to reprogram the remote. i went to autoparts store & used the battery tester for alarm remote's to make sure battery & buttons on remote were functioning. then i followed your method & reprogrammed the remote. it worked! once again thanx so much!
No problem. I am glad we can help with those free remote programming instructions. Please like us on Facebook.
Worked for my Buick Lacerne CXL with Driver Information Center...
1. Close all doors.
2. Press and hold the Unlock button on door lock switch on drivers door.
Hold until instructed to release in step 6.
3. Insert key into the ignition cylinder but do not turn it.
4. Remove key from ignition and then insert key into ignition without turning ignition cylinder and remove key.
5. Insert key in ignition a third time and leave key in ignition. Do Not turn ignition.
6. Release door lock switch on drivers door panel. A Chime will sound 3 times indicating that you are in programming mode.
7. Press both the Lock and Unlock buttons on the remote up to 30 seconds.
A chime will sound 2 times if remote has programmed successful.
8. Repeat step 7 if you are programming additional remotes.
9. Remove key from ignition to exit programming mode
I believe this is the same system used in N-body cars / GMX-130. So more than just trucks depending on the model. Long presses of the door lock button without the ignition sequence can also change auto-lock mode and enable/disable the horn chirp when remote locking depending on which side you use.
$200 great. I am glad you were able to use our video to program your GM truck remote. Thank you for checking our UA-cam channel.
Did this on my C5 Corvette. Actually worked the 1st time! Your a freaking genius! Thanks 1000x!
Excellent video! You saved me a bunch of money and nuisance. Ours probably hadn't been programmed since the truck was new 16 years ago, and they weren't working consistently, but now they both work like new.
One thing you might want to emphasize a little more strongly is that ALL the remotes have to be reprogrammed at the same time. If you omit one that's already programmed, it won't work afterward. But if this happens, just redo them again including the missed unit.
Thank you this video saved me $400. chevy 2002 LTZ alarm couldn't turn off. tried all the other "nonsense" on the internet but this worked.
Without the power door locks, there is no keyless entry system installed on your vehicle. There may be security in the ignition in the form of a transponder chip. This means that the car will only start with a specifically programmed key; however, there is no factory "alarm" system on your car.
These are the proper instructions for an 03 Silverado. If there is a problem with your remote we do sell the replacements.
Needed to reprogram the factory keyless entry on 2000 Yukon. Thank, programmed perfectly.
The 'remote start' Keyfob was not standard issue on the 2005 Silverado. These programming instructions will only work on the Factory Installed Keyless Entry System.
The sound button is right next to play button. You can also turn on captions. CC button is located on the right under the video.
There are programming instructions available for the 2000 Sillouette; however, the are different from the video above. We supply written instructions with remote purchase.
Both GM remotes program the same. The difference is - if your vehicle is equipped with memory options (for example memory seats) remote 1 will work with settings for driver 1 and if you open your vehicle with remote 2 all settings will go to presets for driver 2. If your vehicle does not have memory settings, then both remote will do exactly the same- lock unlock the car.
Do you have a video for a 2000 Cadillac Escalade? I had the ECM replaced by the dealership and the remote hasn't worked since.....this was several years ago, just been manually locking the doors and using key to unlock, but have to imediately use key in ignition to keep the alarm from sounding...Thanks!
Worked the first time on my 06 Chevrolet Tahoe. And I'm not tech savvy but I actually did it correctly.
You might only need the replacement rubber pad for your remote. We sell these on our website. If you do not lock the door with the remote, you should be able to open it back up with the key without setting off the horn. If you lock with remote, you have to unlock with remote to avoid the horn noise. We also sell replacement remotes if you think you need that whole unit.
Awesome Sir!!! Thank you very much for this video. Programmed a Grand Am remote to work on my '03 S-10 (so what if it has a trunk button, lol)
I have a 2004 GMC Yukon and you just saved me $200.00 WEOW Thanks!! This does work!!
Please disconnect and reconnect (after about 10 minutes) the car battery in your vehicle’s engine compartment. You can just take one of the cables off for couple of minutes and put it back on. This works the same way as restarting your computer. It should help to clear minor “bugs” in your keyless or electrical system.
Now, please follow the activation procedure for the remote again.
if this does not work you may need new remotes.
Those instructions differ from the video above. We supply written instructions with remote purchase for Chevy Impala 2000-2005. In order for those instructions to work, you need to have the original GM radio in your Impala.
thank you, I'll try that. and yes the locks do cycle before I touch remote. it just doesn't respond when holding lock unlock on remote
+be everett If you still get the same results after the reboot, take the remote by a local auto parts store. They usually have remote testers there and can test the battery and the remote to make sure it is sending a good signal. Good luck!
Hello. I am trying to program a brand new replacement key fob for my 2001 Chevy Tahoe. As mentioned the key fob is brand new, with brand new working batteries. I have followed/repeated the entire insert key, hold down unlock button, turn ignition off/on twice, wait for the lock to cycle, press and hold lock/unlock on fob simultaneously. But the lock never cycles therefore the Tahoe never enters programming mode. As a side note, I know that the locks are capable of cycling. Because when I pull and hold the bright light lever while cycling the key twice to program my desired door lock/unlock sequence the locks will actually cycle, the same way that they should when programming the key fobs. Can you please share some troubleshooting steps that might help me diagnose why my Tahoe won't enter programming mode so that I can program my new key fobs? Thank you.
Here is what worked for my 2003 Buick Rendezvous CX.
IMPORTANT: Before entering programming mode, have in possession all of the transmitters you will be using on the
vehicle. Once you program the transmitter, all previous codes will be erased from the memory. The other
transmitters will not be functional until you program the transmitters again.
1. Close the vehicle doors.
2. Insert key in ignition and turn to ON (As far as you can without cranking engine)
3. Turn ignition OFF and remove the key from the ignition.
4. Press and hold the driver side door lock switch in the UNLOCK position and don’t let go until step 8.
5. Insert the ignition key into the ignition lock cylinder and remove the key. (Do not turn the ignition key in the
lock cylinder.)
6. Insert the ignition key into the ignition lock cylinder and remove the key. (Do not turn the ignition key in the
lock cylinder.)
7. Insert the ignition key into the ignition lock cylinder. (Do not turn the ignition key in the lock cylinder.) Leave
the ignition key in the ignition lock cylinder.
8. Release the door lock switch. The vehicle will sound three beeps in order to verify the Program Mode has
been activated.
9. Press the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons together on the keyless entry transmitter and hold until the vehicle
beeps twice to verify that the transmitter has been successfully programmed (this take approximately 15 seconds).
10. Repeat step 9 for each transmitter you want to program including your existing working remotes. You can
program up to four remotes.
11. Remove the ignition key in order to exit the Program Mode.
wow it worked beautiful, the remote is all set now for my Nissan maxima, but the engine wont start what should I do next? I am using a new control 2 in 1 flip key fob transponder keyless entry remote please help
Unfortunately not. If you Google "programming instructions for 1998 Cadillac Deville" you will see a blog that has those instructions.
You're welcome. There are written instructions available for the 05 Sebring if you need them as well ;)
Tried programming following your instructions on a 2008 Chevy Uplander, unfortunately it didn't work.. Before I tried programming, both remotes panic buttons work. So this is why I tried to reprogram, I even changed batteries on both remotes. Im truly need some help as I'm not trying to pay the dealer to reprogram..... Anu advice would be really appreciated...
True Vision South, LLC. Unfortunately, the Uplander remotes require programming by dealer or locksmith.
Worked perfectly for my 05 trailblazer thanks!
I have an 08 chevy equinox with remote start..will this procedure also work for the remote start as well
great video, sadly it could not help me program a new fob for my 2005 STS. ANy tips for programmimg cars???
+Thomas Collins We do not have a video available for the STS remote programming, but it can be done. Here are some instructions I found with a simple google search: freeremoteinstructions.com/cadillac/cadillac-sts-2005-2011/
the remote for 2006 Pontiac Grand prix must be programmed by a dealer or car locksmith using scanning tools. it only takes couple of minutes but they may want to charge you for that service.
I have a 2003 Chevy Tahoe and I've tried to program like you said, and isn't working. Does the remote have anything to do with it? I go the remote from my sister on her 2004 Chevy Tahoe, just wondering if that could be a problem?
Does this model have a keyless remote system already installed so all I need to purchase is the key fob and program it according to your video or do I need more??
Got vid of programming G6 key fob? My locks, trunk, panic, remote st, all work...unfortunately the unlocks button does not work...any tips on how to silence the horn from honking when I enter the vehicle by using the door key?
Do you need to have 1 working remote to begin this process?
I just ordered a couple of remotes. Will this way work for my 2001 Cadillac Eldorado? I didn't see it listed but I thought I would ask anyway. Thanks.
The Tracker instructions are slightly different. If you order a remote from us, it will come with written instructions.
This worked for me. 2001 Silverado. Thanks.
What vehicle do you have? There are different instructions for many different vehicles for 1996 model.
I'm sorry we do not have a video available for that make and model.
just got my key fob from ebay w/o instructions, but this worked great. thanks a lot.
Will this process work with a 2003 cadillac deville??? Or what would I need if it does not work???
Hi Sr, Does it work on a 2004-5 Chevrolet Tracker? I think is the Susuki Grand Vitara model in EUA.
Regards from Mexico!!
Thanks
okay I have a 2003 chevy Silverado ext cab ls z71 so this should work for my truck I have tried this procedure over and over and it still doesn't work I have replaced the battery and have checked to make sure my transmitter works at one of the lil testers they have at autozone so the transmitter is working , its just not syncing with the truck any suggestions.
This won't work if your wiring harnesses in your truck door are not connected. Both sides
I am afraid that 2003 silverado remote will not work on 1997 gmc. Both the remote and programming instructions are different.
You must get power doors first. Once you have power locks you can get an aftermarket keyless entry system at best buy or local alarm place.
No, 2008 Chevrolet Uplander key fob has to be programmed by your local dealer or a pro automotive locksmith.
Do you have a video That would work for 2005 Buick LeSabre Limited edition gold series
Great tip! Will this work for a 2006 Chevy Malibu?
What do you do if the locks don’t cycle at first part of programming?
As of this time, we do not have a video available for the 98 Tahoe. If you order a remote from us, however, it will come with written programming instructions that are very easy to follow. Keep check back since we are adding new videos all the time.
very good really help one guy wanted to charge me $150 just to programmed it thanks
Usually up to 4 can be on the car at once. Any more than that usually wipes out the programming on the oldest one.
Gr8 video thanks for posting !!
I can see my problem getting bigger though...My 2010 has manual door locks and windows. I see a trip to my local GM dealer in the cards for me.
Dreaded tire sensor light is on.
Keep up the gr8 posts.
How do you do this with a buick 2006 lacrosse ? Cant get mine into 'program mode'🤔
went on vacation and lost my 2003 Chevrolet Silverado LT 4x4 truck keys ignition, fob, and door key! Where do I begin with keys and fob?
Unfortunately, there are no do it yourself instructions that will work for the 06 Malibu. You will have to take that remote to a GM dealer or locksmith to be programmed with the diagnostic tool.
06 saturn vue.....
2006 Saturn VUE key fob has to be programmed by your local Chevy / GM dealer or a pro automotive locksmith.
There are no do it yourself instructions that will work.
carandtruckremotes Cadillac 2005 srx??
carandtruckremotes what about if u have replaced the drivers side door module that controls all windows locks
Unfortunately not. The programming for the 2007 Cobalt must be done by a dealer or an automotive locksmith.
Unfortunately the standard keyless system will not work with the new actuator.
thank you for this video. i just got a a new remote and programed it with ease. thank you again.
sincerely Paul
I have 2003 Cadillac CTS is this method work with it I need to buy fob tonight please

i bought my 01 sonoma and it doesnt have power locks but i do think it has a security system because theres a security light on my gauge bezel. and theres an anti-theft inspection stick on the side of my door. the guy didn't have the fob. isn't there a way to do it without having to go get power everything...
Unfortunately, this programming does not work on the 1999 GMC Yukon. If you order a remote from us it will come with the programming instructions. The video above will work for 2000-2006 Yukon.
Thank you for this very informative video, will this work with a used Key Fob on a 2001 Buick Lesabre?
Sadly no
Having a hard time finding any solutions for 2007 Chevy Colorados. Any suggestions?
@StacenSpace
I am afraid that hhr remotes must be programmed by a dealer
The chip to start the car has to be separately programmed to start the car by a dealer or an automotive locksmith.
Sometimes my key fob works to unlock and lock the doors and rear window on trailblazer and sometimes it does not. What can the problem be
How u program a key fob for a 2000 Buick LeSabre
Unfortunately the 2000 LeSabre remote must be programmed by a locksmith or dealer with diagnostic equipment.
carandtruckremotes what u think they will Charge
Shouldn't be more than $40.
My dad has a 99 chevy venture, the remote's battery died so he changed it but now it wont work, will this work with it?
I also need the instructions for a 99 tahoe, any chance you can tell me how?
Also, when i click lock on my car, sometimes it doesn't lock some of the doors. Do you know if i can reset it somehow so that they all lock?
Is there a video for programming the remote starter? When I programmed the remote the lock and unlock even the trunck button but the remote start will not work. I have a 2009 Buick Enclave.
+Mr.FamilyFirst The car must be originally equipped with remote start feature and have the remote start system activated on the vehicle for this remote start button to work. There is only one programming method and this will program all the buttons on the remote at once. There is no separate programming for the remote start fob. (unless of course you have a separate aftermarket remote starter, then these instructions do not apply at all).
You're welcome Paul. Glad we could help.
Hi, this didn't work on my 01 Tahoe. After i had held down the the button and turned on and off the ignition 2 times, and released the button, nothing happened. the doors didn't lock and unlocked like in the video?
In other words, couldn't get in the programming mode for the remotes..
Is there another way?
kenneth almas Be sure you are holding down the door unlock button on the car door itself... keep holding it down while you cycle the key...
If you still aren't having any luck getting the car to respond to the "programming mode" you can try rebooting the car by disconnecting the car battery for about 15-20 minutes and then reconnecting it and trying the programming again. This will solve any "bugs" that may be in the keyless system and keeping the car from engaging in programming mode.
It should work. If the truck is responding but the remote is not, the remote might be bad. Take it to a local auto parts store and have it tested. If you need a new remote, We sell those remotes on our website.
I have a 2002 Trailblazer LS and tried programming the remote but my car when you do the On, Off, On, Off with the ignition it cycles the locks but does it two times 3 seconds apart and cant get the car in programming mode. What can I do, please help?
I can't get this to work with our 1999 Tahoe and don't feel like paying the dealer to do it the old fashioned way. Any ideas?
Unfortunately, this remote has a different set of instructions. We do supply written instructions for this remote with purchase.
i have a 2006 chevy trailblazer....tried your method, but the remote is still not responding...nothing happens when i press both unlock & lock...i've waited 30 seconds & still nothing...any other suggestions?
Hey i have a1988 gmc c1500 but i change the lock actuator from a 1997 truck, would i be able to program a remote to my truck?
Thanks so much for the video. Ever since I bought my 00' silverado the keyless entry hasn't worked, but thanks to ur video it now works perfectly.
I have a Chevy 2002 S10. It has no lock/unlock buttons. How would I go about installing one of these?
I tried this on my 1995 Chevy truck first using a piece of bailing wire, then a paper clip and the door locks didn't cycle, got any suggestions? I noticed you used a piece on electrical wire, cold that be the difference?
MrSarge99 The instructions may be different for your truck. Give us a call and I will let you know if we have the instructions available for your model.
you know how i can program the keyless entry for a pontiac grand am 95.
i found the inf, the problem is when im programming the control! i cant find the connector!
Hello, does the #'s 1 or 2 matter in the back of the remote???
It should work for the 2001 GMC Yukon factory installed keyless system. There may be something wrong with your remote or your keyless system.
will the remote start function still work?
Does'nt work on my 2005 Silverado with remote starter. Thought I was on to something with your procedure because the locks did click and the horn chirped. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I am glad we can help.
Hello. I have a 2007 Buick Lacrosse CX. Can I use this same method to program my replacement key fobs? Or do I need a special tool to do this? Thanks for your help!
Unfortunately the 2007 Lacrosse key fob has to be programmed by your GM dealership or a pro automotive locksmith. There are no DIY instructions available for this year/model. They will hook up the diagnostic tool to the car and program it with a code they have.
No puedo programar un control para un Chevy hhr 2006 no enseñan nada
Read quite a few comments on here and noticed a trend... 06 Malibu, 06 Saturn Vue. I have been told a 2006 Buick lacrosse replacement key fob must be taken to a dealership? Is that completely true? AM I stuck with that option?
+a salazar Yes, unfortunately that is true. There are no DIY instructions that will work for the 2006 LaCrosse. You have to take it to a dealer or locksmith for programming.
What if the fob doesn't sync when following the directions in the video? Fob buttons were held down for a full minute, and nothing happened.
+CandCfam Could be a defect in the remote. Perhaps a dead battery even. Are you getting the initial response from the car where the doors lock and unlock first. If not, try this: If you still aren't having any luck, you can try rebooting the
keyless system by doing an electrical reset on the vehicle.
To do this you would simply disconnect one of the car's battery
cables for about 15-20 minutes, reconnect and then try the programming again.
Sometimes this will solve any 'bugs' that may be keeping the
remote from programming.
