no you have to lock twice and hold the remote start button some newer GM you have to push twice but the have a ''2X'' on the button

You push the remote twice to start GMs, but you also need the remote start module/piece to start the car. It connects from the battery to the starter and disables the kill switch.

That is useful information :) my own keyfobs are worn really bad and i need to replace the faces on them, i asked my volvo dealer and it would cost about $20 ish to replace both of the faces so not so bad, luckily it is only the face so i don't need the fobs themselves

Good info for replacing the key. I used a small nail to knock the pin out because the tiny drill bits kept breaking.
I have the push button start so my programming was different than the way you showed.
Great info the only issue is the car has a check engine light. GM cars will disable remote start when the check engine light is on.

I got a remote start from Amazon for my charger so there are aftermarket remote starts you use your key fob 😊
You can also do this with Chrysler products if you have 2 key fobs..its simple most people dont know it...We have done this,people should look into their brand of car and see if they can do it before they lose their keys and have to spend $500 at the dealer after tow and new key! Gotta help people out from being robbed at the dealer!
I think if you have a fancy scan tool like John Ross's you can turn on features. You might try that.
Randy I have a Impala like yours and the sequence that you used was not the proper buttons to push for the remote start. You hit the bottom button first like you did but then you hit the lock button next and it will start. Thanks Randy have a good day

Randy i've been programming those newer remotes for a few years. Mine you have to double click remote start 2 times. That should fix ya!

I did not try that. I'll give it a shot.
I do know on a lot of chevys if the check engine light is on it won’t let them remote start so might try and clear the codes and then see worth a shot anyway
The remote start module is really easy to install yourself !!
Sometimes check engine light will prevent the starter, and the light blinks as you try to start. Sometimes erasing codes fixes this, but sometimes it only starts once and then trips code and no rs again . This doesn’t activate remote start to all cars, I’ve had several without remote start button and new key with RS button does not start the car because not equipped
My dad had a Malibu it was a 2009 but it had remote start. It just didn’t have a fob we got one and it worked.

I'm surprised that newer Impala didn't have OEM remote start... my 2011 was only a LT with the base 3.5 and it came with it standard!

the OEM kit comes with a Code that need to added to the VIN by the dealer ... and beside that the Remote start will not work bc your Check engine light is ON

You need to change the starter . To get the starter system to work right. Okay. If you don't have it at all. Okay. Keep up the great work.
Interesting to know how to do this. My car started saying it didn't recognize the key fob so I bought new batteries. If my next car does that I will know what to do. 😁

Remote start won't be available if you have a check engine light set.
Click the lock button twice then the remote start twice. But on the second one hold it.
Randy on mine you need to lock it twice. 2 horn blows then it works.
That's odd, my 2019 Impala only takes one lock button press, so one horn, then hold remote start and it starts right up
BTW it was lock 2x then hold the remote start on my 2011
Hey i dont have an extra key do you know how many seconds or minutes i have between putting the old fob key in on the on position then quickly removing the pin to put it on the new fob ?

what about for Canadian made models, I have yet to find a solution for it, I was trying to switch the cover on my fob after one of the buttons tore and became a hole, and broke the button on the board while trying to pry it open with an awl, and on Canadian made models you need 2 working keys to do so, I have yet to find a solution how to diy, everyone says take it to a locksmith or dealer.

Y, I had a Chrysler and on the remote start,you do it three times but on the third time you hold it and it starts.

Not sure if you have a check engine light on but on GM cars the remote start will not operate if you do.
My 2015 Impala had remote start and you just push the lock button one time then push the remote start button and hold until it starts. Been the same on all my GM cars with remote start.

You will most likely have to got to the dealer. Jeep\Daimler_Chrysler\Mercedes the remotes aren't easily changeable. I had to go to the dealer for my 2006 Grand Cherokee. The remote I got off eBay didn't work. The locksmith said it depends on where the car is made. The dealer key cost $500 and had to come from Germany as that's where my Jeep was built. The ebay one was $50. Everything on that Jeep was crazy expensive.
if i were to buy a key fob for 15 dollars i would want it to have the chevorlet logo on it but if you want the remote start to work i believe you need to install a remote starter i forgot where but that i believe is something you need

My old Chevy Uplander wouldn't allow remote start if check engine light is on.
Try lock once, then remote start twice and hold second time.
I did the same thing with my mom's impala, same thing here, car does not have remote start.
Randy go into the settings of the vehicle bc it can be turned off
just buy the module and then use your obd scanner to enable it
And if the check engine light is on the remote start will not work.
That's so weird that the remote start wont work usually if its an LT it should have it regardless so when you program a remote it works. That was the case on my 2012 Impala LT.

You need a push Start/Stop button for it to work.
Probably just need to bite the bullet and let the dealer install the system if you really want it. That key trick is impressive. They sell replacements for Dodge vehicles as well with the square end.

I had a Caprice 2007 and for some reasons my remote key got damaged , so I went to the GM agent in Bahrain (Arabian Gulf M.E.) where they wanted to charge me $340 fir a new one. Thats really too much for a remote key.
Fuk I bought a generic key fob and it won’t program to my car.come to find out my car has the auto start feature cause the original key fob has it.the genric one don’t have the little circle button now I have to return it.

Can't understand why people want remote start. Where I live so many people get fined for starting there car when standing over 3 feet away. They get them under the rule where you can't leave your vehicle running unattended.
Most of us don't love where you live. It's not a law here. It's great to heat my car in winter or cool it in summer.
@@kevinw.3607 That's what kids are for. Mum always got me to run the car for 5 minutes before she came out so it was lovely and warm. In Summer I've never had a real problem, just turn on the AC and crack the window an inch. Though did have a Sebring with faux wood steering wheel and damn that this was scorching.
