Read a bit about the return of this figure in Denmark on your website. In the Netherlands we also had a figure much like it which became tied up with 'Sinterklaas' (Saint Nicholas) and was transformed into a helper. It is fascinating to see how this figure survived throughout Europe in some form.
Yes! - the people in Netherlands should definetely reinvent "Zwarte Piet" in the direction of Krampus/Yulegoat figures. The practice of soot-blackened faces has also existed in both Scandinavia and England and the root of this practice is not portraying Africans. It is masking specific other-than-humans - hence, it makes sense to bring it back to older, more original (and non-offensive) meanings
@@NordicAnimism the figure has, very justifiably so, caused quite the controversy over here the last few years. I really hope we can make a return to the original figure.
