Yet another Ytube reaction channel where a black guy pretends to be amazed by old rock and roll performed by white guys. They must be working because there sure are a lot of them recently.
@finger speak YA! I WATCH A LOT OF REACTION VIDEOS AND I TRULY BELIEVE THAT THEY ARE GENUINELY INTERESTED AND APPRECIATE THE FACT THAT THEY ARE REALLY PLAYING MUSIC!✌❤🤘
He actually knows about music and talks about the music but okay
They're exploring the creative roots...
Lol when I read comments like this I used to get pissed than I came to the realization that this is the internet where people pretend so much that when you come across someone genuine you perceive it as phony. Brotha you don't know me, don't know what I'm about. I'm a lover of music and do my best to not sit and observe but to also experience as that's how much I love it. If that ain't enough for ya sure you can go find something else to bitch at.
Kind of a small-minded statement wouldn't you think?
Dude the mean Street riff is one of the baddest riffs in Rock history. Just an absolute killer.
Best riff ever
@@billyjoechambers8494 The entire song is the BEST RIFF EVER!
Agreed 💯
The most underappreciated riff EVH ever played. RIP. THE guitar goat
Here we have one f the greatest rock songs ever! This took on 5:51 a whole new sound and vibe than the previous 3 albums. At the time it was not considered up to par. However today it’s widely considered Van Halen’s best album. It is my favorite Rock n Roll album period. This is ranked in the top 5 of my favorite songs. This is when Edward flexed his muscles and stood his ground on what was to be laid down on the album. You can tell it to cause it’s guitar work is fire! It’s considered to be their darkest album. This is VH at the beginning of their pinnacle. This where they concreted their souls in rock history. This album was a testament to their prowess so to speak. The Grest debut album, then they beat the sophomore jinx with VH2 and followed up with women and children first, but here with this album they proved that they were exceptional in what they do. Not very many rock bands can put out 4 albums in 4 years with 4 world tours and this be all of their first 4. Truly greatness imo! RIP Edward!
My opinion, this is the best VH album.
@A Baller I can see that, I feel the same. To me Fair Warning was the album Eddie really cut loose on.
Probably agree. This was a beast if an album.
Absolutely
Agreed!!! Dark & just in your face KA energy!!
Same.
My favorite VH song. The whole vibe it fire.
4 sure
Probably eddies hardest riff!
To put Eddie Van Halen's contribution to music in perspective .. I will put it like this.. Jimi Hendrix was like when silent movies became talking pictures. Eddie Van Halen was like when black and white movies became color. Jimi Hendrix and Eddie Van Halen change popular culture... they changed the landscape of music.
Definitely... Hendrix is on the left side of God and EVH sits on the right side of God so to speak.
I agree. I believe EVH's legacy will be alongside Hendrix for the ages. There's no other way to rank him.
Steve Vai put it best. Himself and other guitar players will go down as "important" players, but they didn't spawn a whole new generation of players. Jimi and EVH made people want to learn guitar probably more than any other popular guitarists.
I would just add Tony Iomi in the middle there
I think you got that exactly right. After Hendrix everything changed and once again after Van Halen everything changed. There are many great electric guitarists but very, very few who actually change the paradigm. Both these genius's did that to the vast benefit of listeners and musicians.
Mean Street is a stone cold jam. Eddie called this type of guitar tone “The Brown Sound.” Recommend Hang Em High, Little Guitars and The Full Bug from Diver Down. Glad you are back strong, Jay!
For an outside the box Van Halen cut "Outta Love Again" is spicy.
Outta Love Again into Light Up the Sky is a knock-out, one-two punch.
Alex's best work on that 1. 2. Punch
Outta Love Again...One of my top 3 by VH. Short song but packs a serious punch!
Sickest riff off VHII and DOA and Light up the Sky.
Double-true!!🤘🏼
I’m an old white guy and I love seeing young people discover this great music…regardless of their color! Keep up the good work Jay Rah!!!! I subbed!!
My favorite Van Halen song! True bad asses!!
Oh yeah, one of the best VH tunes EVER!!! Eddie will always be in my top 5 for being so inventive/creative with his sound, one of the best! I am so glad he and Alex decided to switch instruments when they were kids, we are so lucky to have lived during the same time!! Another great reaction, thanks!!
Must.Do.'Unchained' thanks and welcome back!!
I like how you picked up on EVH's guitar tone. It is the best guitar tone there is and not easy to replicate. Welcome to the Brown Sound!
One of my top ten songs from Van Halen. Thanks for the video and reaction. Peace
Anything off there first 3 albums.
I'm The One, Unchained, Ice Cream Man, Beautiful Girls.
Ain't Talkin Bout Love ❤
You Really Got Me
And The Cradle Will Rock 🎸
Eddie Van Halen on the guitar, David Lee Roth lead singer, Alex Van Halen on the drums and Michael Anthony on the base. They gave new meaning to the term head-banging because even when the song would mellow out a bit you're still banging your head. I miss the old early Van Halen music.
My first CASSETTE purchase at age 13. And suddenly my parents Beatles records didn’t matter so much. Often imitated, never duplicated, when Van Halen was on point no one was better...
A shame that at age 13 Van Halen took musical priority over the Beatles for you.
@@MusicLover-wo7ig I heard more of the Beatles by 13 than just about anyone. Lovely music to be certain, but children’s music from my particular perspective.
When I first heard Mean Streets from VH it sounded raw and a little dangerous-two things the Beatles never gave me. Not their fault, my parents used to play me the Beatles to get me to fall sleep when I was five.
Different generations is all. Trust me, I don’t get ANYTHING current. Just the way it goes...
@@MusicLover-wo7ig Beatles were a good bad but completely generic and bland Next to VH.
Great Van Halen song. Other great ones to name a few are; Poundcake, Panama, Ice Cream Man, Humans Being, Everybody Wants Some, etc...
React to Van Halen - D.O.A.
"They found a dirty faced kid in a garbage can"....🤘
Was he broken down and dirty? Dressed in rags?
More amazing Van Halen songs I'M THE ONE, EVERYBODY WANTS SOME, GIRL GONE BAD
Yes, Girl gone bad!!!
The famous VH Brown tone.. it's simply amazing.
When it comes to VH everyone always thinks of Dave and Eddie. But Mike's backing vocals and bass with Alex in the pocket is what gives VH that FAT in your face sound. Thanks for recognizing that.
Love Van Halen. To the core. This one is killing! RIP Eddy. What a loss.
FAIR WARNING was their darkest álbum. Eddie always tuned a half step down, but on this album he tuned the low E string by another whole step and that gives the guitar a very heavy tone. This song, UNCHAINED and DIRTY MOVIES are my favorites on this album.
My opinion this is evh's best work. R.i.p.
That tone of eddies guitar that you like so much is what eddie called "the brown sound" and all the techniques you like that he plays were revolutionary at that time and changed the way guitar was played for the generation that followed it, love your insightful reactions, R.I.P. Eddie Van Halen.
Definitely one of VH's best songs. Great choice and reaction. Give " Top Jimmy" a listen. Excellent song.
Some more good ones are: Unchained, I'll Wait, Running with the Devil, Jamie's Crying, etc., etc. Then with Sammy Hagar: When it's Love, Love Comes Walking in, Right Now and Dreams.
I saw Van Halen in Birmingham Alabama back in 83 and they freakin rocked the place
One of the things I enjoy with your reactions is they do seem genuine. It's about the music and great music comes from people of all colors and time periods. Keep doing what you're doing!
David Lee Roth - lead vocals
Alex Van Halen - drums
Michael Anthony - Bass and backing vocals
Eddie Van Halen - Guitar and backing vocals.
These were their most awesome albums.
Glad you made it back on air...this is my favorite Van Halen track so it's cool to see you introduced to it...stay blessed and do the best you
Love your appreciation for Van Halen 😎I'm a 53 yr old woman who was in the Van Halen fan club as a teenager & wore my VH necklace with pride 😁Part of the soundtrack of my youth & beyond. RIP Eddie 🙏🎸
I like Jay's critique because he's like me, he's listening to the entire song. Thank you Jay!!
Take Your Whiskey Home 🔥 & Atomic Punk 😁. Love this Album
Dig on some "And The Cradle Will Rock." Have you seen Junior's grades?
Stank Face is always the way to tell when someone is feeling it. Guitar solos have given me stank face since I was a little kid
That's my favorite VH song. Thanks for the reaction.
I remember this one..this was one of my favorite reaction videos.
Somebody Get Me a Doctor
I'm the One
Push Comes to Shove
Unchained
Beautiful Girls
Feel Your Love Tonight
Girls Gone Bad.
They are all pure 🔥🔥
Keep Rockin'...🎵🎶🎵😎
THAT DRIVING BASSLINE THOUGH 😊
Cool. Thanks for sharing.
Glad to see you're back brother... God be with you.
this whole album is fire!! when ya get time make sure to listen to it!! my favorite album from them!!
I LOvE this song!!!! Riff has a Hook like crazy, the beat, it pops & snaps & its Dirty, yet sounds so musical. This album was "mostly" Eddies album.
Are you a musician, Jay? You definitely use a musician's vocabulary. You key into what's going on instrumentally more than most, which I appreciate.
My favorite Van Halen song
I was listening to Coast to Coast at around the time Eddie Van Halen died and there was a guy who knew him in the band and he was talking about that you know he didn't come natural to him he worked hard and he practice practice he was a workaholic practicing on his guitar and everything I think in the end it did pay off for him.
Was that Gary the band historian guy that past a couple years ago?
His lifetime of hard work paid off for all of us.
everyone sleeps on 'drop dead legs' its a great song. would love to see a reaction
So glad you're back. Epic guitar from a master right here Jay. Hey check out Jane's Addiction - Three Days. They were so influential to 90's rock music.
Gotta love the funky breakdown. Eddie had such great rhythm. (Understatement! )
The bass haha...thats Michael Anthony buddy 😎🤘
Jay Rah keep on rockin' dude! Your videos bring me alot of joy.
He was so good. That rhythm, funk and groove was so crazy. There are some amazing guitar players out there for sure but they just don't have that combination of lead, rhythm and SONGS. He was just amazing. This song is so fun.
Will really miss him.
Good to hear you listening to a deep cut from this band. This album is just different from all the others and my favorite.
I appreciate your respect for my man evh .
He’s the greatest guitar player to pick up the instrument. The tone, timing, soloing, and above all, his rhythm and riff-building skills are second to none. All of those Los Angeles kids knew he was something special in high school and he was the talk of the music scene in L.A. as a high school kid in the mid 70’s. Says a lot when peers are praising you like no other...
Ah, you picked a great one. Some other dirty choices, Atomic Punk, DOA, Light Up the Sky, Straight Outa Love, Everybody Wants Some just for starters. Michael Anthony on bass, he's a beast. Eddie's brother Alex Van Halen on drums and David Lee Roth (Diamond Dave) on vocals.
Probably my favorite van halen song.. guitar riff.. shits tuff!
This is my favorite VH
Fantastic album!
Van Halen - Romeo Delight
Complex, intense, over the top musical masterpiece. 🔥🎸🔥🎸
One of favs along with this one
Eddie and the drummer Alex are brothers. Neither ever played without the other. Alex Van Halen is the older brother. When they were kids Alex played guitar and Eddie played drums. They later switched and everything fell into place.
Eddie did play with many other people. In fact he played a solo on Beat It (Micheal Jacksons Thriller) he also re arranged the song.. never got paid.
Eddie played with lots of other people...The Special for Les Paul, multiple times on Letterman, played with the house band on SNL,got up on stage with Simon and Garfunkel and those are just off the top of my head...
Jay I like your style..You know music... Eddie is jamming with Hendrix in heaven right now... They were the best...RIP King Eddie!!!
Oh wow! I just recognized the vocal sample in your outro music. That's Dorinda Clark-Cole from the song "I Made It" off her sister Twinkie Clark's album Home Once Again in Detroit. Nice!!! 😲
FINALLY!! Someone reacting to one of VH's baddest tracks!
Great video. I always love seeing these reactions.
Van Halen 🔥
Man, I LOVE LOVE LOVE this tune. If I was an MMA fighter, this would be my walkout song.
Thank you for such a wonderful and heartfelt tribute to our King Edward.
watching interviews with him and other kind folks like yourself paying tribute to Eddie and reactions makes it somewhat easier to bear.
Rock / Metal / Guitar Music rarely gets mainstream exposure and respect so it is greatly appreciated you guys doing this.
There’s a Bad Religion ( Punk Band ) Lyric that says it al “ Everyone you love leaves a mark on your soul,
The world is a little less bright without King Edward I’m fighting cancer and depression and EVH has been an integral part of my life since day one.It may some daft but it feels like I’ve lost a family member.
His devotion to the instrument and chasing tone is unparalleled.
This is a brilliant interview if you haven’t seen it ua-cam.com/video/yb26D8bBZB8/v-deo.html&ab_channel=Z%C3%B3caloPublicSquare
most people don’t know the King Edward was a bi-racial half Asian / half white Immigrant and that his lifelong friends were the black kids who stood up for them when they came to the US. As they were ‘half breed’ immigrants who couldn’t speak the language. And look at where they ended up man! A definitive American Dream story.
Eddie played the solo on Michael Jackson’s Beat it, re-arranged it so it sounded more ‘Rock’ and introduced Michael to a wider audience for free.
Eddie buried Dimebag Darrell from Pantera with his original Bumblebee Guitar when Dime’s life partner Rita asked him to make a Copy Ed said “an Original deserves an Original”
Vinnie Paul ( Pantera ) Dimebag’s brother says the last words his brother said to him was Van f+*in Halen’ their nightly ritual before hitting the stage.
He gave Jerry Cantrell 5150 Stacks after touring with Alice In Chains and the last concert he went to was TOOL and a TOOL fan asked him to take a picture of the fan in front of Tool’s stage and he did, The fan had no idea who Ed was and Ed was chill with it. / no ‘don’t you know who I am’ attitude.
Frank Zappa loved and respected Eddie and got him to teach Dweezil who was obsessed with ED When Frank died Ed was THE 1st first to call with condolences and to offer any assistance.
He did the same for Chris Cornell Guitarist Pete Thorn when Chris Passed
He got Allan Holdsworth signed to Warner to introduce Allan to a wider audience
He was the 1st to mod his guitars in such an extreme way chasing tone, popularising the Super Strat - Humbuckers in Strat style guitars, Waxing Pickups, Variac on his amp and did his first 2 albums with the original Fender Whammy which led to the creation of the Floyd Rose
Whammy Bar and later he developed the D-Tuna addition to go from standard to drop D
Les Paul Said Ed, him & Leo Fender are the only guys who know how to make guitars
His 5150 Amp is still THE go to amp and sound of Modern metal, Gojira use the EVH 5150
His Rhythm Playing was funky, tasteful and rockin’ and his songwriting is the reason his loss is affecting grandparents, parents, kids and all ethnicities alike as Van Halen songs will live forever.
He bravely and quietly fought cancer for 20 years
Much love to Alex Wolfie, Valerie, Janie, Dave, Michael, Sammy, Gary & all the fans that lost this Brother from another mother
Enjoy EVH ua-cam.com/video/L9r-NxuYszg/v-deo.html&ab_channel=Hazardteam
It's funny how he doesn't know all the terminology for VH. But he knew it was a "dirty tone". Perfect. You got it!!
The best Van Halen album!
Thanks Jay. Check out Im on fire from their first album from 1978. Love Life Live. Rip to my guitar hero EVH!
I think Eddie referred to that tone as the brown sound. He even adjusted the voltage coming in and reduced it, which actually changed the sound.
Ed used a Variac to change voltage of a amp head.
Bassist in original VH band. Michael Anthony, also strong with his backup vocals
Definitely check out their song "Ice Cream Man"
I believe you mean their cover of Ice cream man.
Stay Frosty!
That "slide" you were talking about is actually him laying on the whammy bar and releasing it. Love this song. Nice reaction, man, thank you
Little Guitars: There are TWO distinct guitar sounds he plays at the same time on one guitar! For a while he would play the song with his back to the audience so people couldn’t see how he did ir
If you can hear during the solo him playing the rhythm guitar because he plays rhythm guitar as well. It sets a totally different tone for the song
kewl to see the young talent diggin the VH -
Eddie and Al grew up in an impoverished situation where they all shared a bedroom in a house and I believe it was Pasadena. So he might very well be talking about how he grew up. His dad was a musician and wasn't getting a lot of gigs they immigrated from Germany or Amsterdam I can't remember where they lived right before they came here but they struggled for a long time.
Amsterdam.
Most badass riff ever.
Can I tell you a secret? I've watched a few of these vids where my African-American check out this song. It tickles me watching you guys wonder what's going on with the crazy guitar intro and then when the band kicks in a brief second of shock and then the heads start nodding. 😎
My favorite VH song
That Brown sound ! He fried that Marshall head , i think on the 1984 album, sent it to everyone he could think of, no one could figure out how he'd had it exactly , so, it'd never sound quite the same afterward. You can definitely tell a diff in later albums, hot, but never quite this hot again.
Great choice!
This, and Unchained, are my two favorite VH songs.
🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Van Halen in the 80s could put it down great album. Diver Down another great album. . Try some Stevie Ray Vaughan "Texas Flood"at El Macombo blow you away I promise you that Broh. God Bless.
@A Baller so you telling me a cover can't be as good as the aresanall artis. I've heard a lot of songs that where done better lmao.
@A Baller sorry dud I'm not going to fight over something ridiculous over a album I like it and I'm not saying it was there favorite album. To me Fair Warning was one of there great album one thing on us broh we love EVH music Bless you broh.
I just asked about this a few minutes ago. Man, your fast!, lol.
Eddie was the rhythm riff master. Some of Thee spiciest rhythm riffs ever put to record. Also Eddie & Bassist Micheal Anthony on those high harmonies. ✌
This song has my favorite riff from Eddie, just fucking kicks ass!
I love watching people react to this outtro …Eddie waling
This whole album is so underrated. What can I say about this song? That harmonic tapping intro is pure gold. My favorite part of the whole song is when Eddie hits the chord right at the beginning of the main riff. That guitar sound is absolutely nasty. The lyrics are pretty raw and Dave kinda has that kinda talky/rappy feel. It's pretty genius how the song conveys a raw urban feel. There was always a kind of magic in the way Dave and Eddie would compose. It's the reason why Van Halen sounds so unique especially in the Diamond Dave era. Most songs start out with lyrics and the music gets worked out around them. Dave wasn't really a musician as much as a performer and front man. Eddie would screw around playing riffs and Dave would hear that and lyrics would pop into his head. It gives the early Van Halen stuff a kind of spontaneity that is unique because of their backwards writing style. There's a real freeness in Eddie's guitar playing that comes through because the guitars are the starting point of the song writing process
Whiskey and Van Halen 😎
The best VH album if you like guitar. Eddie’s best work! Great reaction.
Glad you got to this one man
Eddy had a class all his own! The first beat and you knew it was Eddy!
Rock on!!!
Jay....I miss the Van Halen Rxns! King Edward once told an audience at an awards ceremony that he thanked them for "getting it." You get it, Jay! Not sure what you're up to, but if you are so inclined maybe check out some of the tracks from "Right Here, Right Now." I know you prefer the DLR era, as do I, but this performance is epic. Peace and only success to you Jay!
If I remember Correctly , this Album has a song call FOOLS!! It's pretty Spicy!! HELL 80% of what they did was SPICY!!🎸
Fools is actually on Women and Children 1st, cheers.
