I think what people need to realize is that; after more people come in to develop things for the PC port, we will see things like higher polygon models and better environment situations. Emulation was locking the game behind the n64's performance issues, but now this opens up an entirely new way to mod OoT
Very true, the pc port has a bright future. Just look at what was added after only two and a half months.
Better camera, more freedom with controls..maybe even an easy modding api. Having the entire source code makes it possible to customize everything.
@@obinator9065 I want the OoT unreal 5 dude to import the game and use the graphical assets
@@obinator9065 How did someone get the source code? isn't that illegal? :O
@@Stickers2Go they reversed engineered it if I remember correctly
In my opinion the Ocarina of Time 3Ds remaster is the most definitive version, if it's textures could be brought over to the PC port with vibrance lowered a bit, it would be perfect!
@GitsyKing yeah, that's why I'm in no hurry, these guys are awesome
Exactly. Agreed.
@@haunter4764 Great news! 3DS textures and models have been ported over to the PC version! ua-cam.com/video/qPQJoyHxkMw/v-deo.html
Good news
@@rebelfriend9949Nah the Djipis ones are just similar, they're not 1:1 and they look a bit wierd on N64 lighting imo
At some point I hope to see all the pre-rendered areas completely replaced with a fully rendered environment on the PC port. Being able to walk around the market and up to the temple of time with the camera following link would be such a cool experience, and even though it's not pre-rendered, changing the courtyard sequence with the guards to a regular camera angle would be cool too.
ok this isn't something i have thought of, but would love 1000000%
I do feel like the fixed camera angles help sell a certain theatrical quality to those scenes, but it would be awesome to have fully-rendered environments so you could pan smoothly between those angles instead of jump-cutting.
@@hansj4832 True, but the other issue with the pre-rendered images is how low-res they are. So if you play the game at any resolution other than the original 240p, it completely breaks the illusion because the 3D models are being rendered at a higher resolution but the background image is stuck at 240p. It looks like bad greenscreen. Upscaling the backgrounds with AI would help though.
@@Beefnhammer Oh no, I was not proposing keeping the pre-rendered backgrounds. What I was arguing is that for, say, the Temple of Time, having the fixed shot of the courtyard, followed by the fixed wide shot of the whole temple, looks better than having the camera just follow Link like it usually does, but that this effect would still look better with a fully rendered background and could include slight camera movement between those fixed shots.
@@hansj4832 Right, that makes sense. They basically did that on the 3DS version, everything is fully rendered but the angles are still fixed in place to mimic the original. The best thing then, would be to let the player choose between the fixed or dynamic camera, like how you can switch between the ground level and overhead angle in Link's house.
I will always go native port rather then emulator it just makes sense can't wait till majora is also ported to pc
Only if you have the option to. I choose the original platform too. I mean, it's supposed to run on them so it'll run properly but in some cases emulators can help. I have played many games on emulators on my laptop but some emulators didn't run well and my laptop was old too. Since I got a 3DS I have been so happy because I can finally play whatever game I want properly and I have to 2 platforms choose from.
3DS has nice graphics and has fully 3D environments where the original used pre-rendered images, but that's about it. The port currently has (other than the graphics, for now), pretty much all the quality of life features of the remake and much more, and they're optional in case you wanna play the original way. Once they eventually get to modding the port, I'm pretty sure someone will do a 3DS graphics mod (or a Render96 mod) and then it'll be complete for those who want a proper PC remake.
Right now, in terms of gameplay the port wins big time, and in terms of visuals the remake is technically the better one, though I'd personally stick with the original for it's less vibrant and more natural colors, better lighting to set the atmosphere (especially on the final boss) and how things with a "reflection" texture (like the triforce, silver scale or the mirror shield) look much better somehow.
I hope all the 3DS models will be ported for the a OOT PC Port (OOT3D Model Pack) Imagine what kind of different experience it would be playing it on PC keeping the N64 OG animations, even though I think some N64 animations would need to be replaced with some animations from the remake, and Princess Zelda’s Animations are one of those that have awkward animations in the original N64 game, even if set on 60FPS, all her OG animations still look awkward.
I would change some of Link’s animations with 3DS animations as well as well, like his idle animations along with adding the new stay sharp animation when Link encounters an enemy or a boss that was added for the remake, his turning around cutscene animation, a
some of his sword attacks, and his air knocked back when getting hit by an enemy. The rest of the OG animations will stay the same like his running animations, his forward rolling animation, and jumps, along with some additional fluidity and more physics to fit the overall feel of the new models.
I'm sure it's a matter of time until this happens! Which is very exciting, but I am most excited for the work that Render98 is doing at the moment. Their custom models will have their own animations (I assume) and it will look fantastic! One gripe I still have with the n64/pc port is the 2d backgrounds. They have a charm, but it would be great if those and other parts of the world get a makeover :)
yes I’m excited for what Render96 will do for this game with great graphics! :D Maybe even an HQ sounds for higher quality audio with the same sound effects but upsampled to sound uncompressed, like Link’s voice, and other character voice clips for instincts!
Also agreed with the 2D backgrounds, they would need a makeover as well.
Yeah just looking at the Queen Gohma's animations in both versions and you can tell the N64 gives the boss more personality with its animations.
I'd love to see 3DS Ganon's model using the N64 animations with the brightness toned way down, recreating the lighting effects from the original.
Yeah the 3DS Animations were Awful ! I understand they had to Recreate them because of the System limitations ? But You Realize Oot used Real time Body Movements for Animations and Idle Bodley movements as they looked so Natural and Smooth But 3DS has to make it all Stiff and Video game like Smh
Plus SFX like Goron Moaning are Completely Missing and others are Tweaked or Recreated Again because of Limitations
All I ask for is Reskin over the Original ! Even Bring back the Moon Symbol Because Nintendo are Stupid
@@mrandrossguy9871 The iconic Goron groan is gone? Noooooooo!!!
Personally I think there are a lot of areas where the 3DS version misses the mark. The lighting is way too bright, and there's no fog in areas that are really supposed to have it like the Lost Woods. And the Creation cutscene is all fucked up.
Then again, there are areas where the 3DS completely blows the N64 version out of the water, like Market.
The Market alone is so superior that it almost makes me want to play it. But I do prefer most of the qualities of the original more. (god is the market still such a muddy mess in the n64 version)
I hate how bright neon green and cartoonish the 3d version looks on a general level - it changes the tone
@@vegamode8706it’s less noticeable on an actual 3ds
@@Ealais76 that makes sense
Nice vid, man. They enhanced the 3DS version a lot, but the PC Port has just too much potential. It will surpass the 3DS remake soon.

@@shaolinsnake9650 yup, Prism and I have some models as well.

the screen layout for citra can be output to two monitors on citra though, to me that makes it definitive (for now)
When it comes to graphics, higher polygon count and texture quality aside, the only thing that the 3DS version has over the countless HD texture packs out there is consistency, everything blends seamlessly and nothing feels out of place.
If anything, the 3DS artistic direction finally pulled this whole game together visually speaking.
The higher resolution graphics as well as the HD pack are a huge game changer!...... but it has lost a lot of the "atmosphere" shown in the original... Seriously, where did all the clouds and smoke even go?? lol Also, the opening cinematic is so bright! O.o
The 3DS version has better graphics, but I think the original still has a better atmosphere, if someone is playing fo the first time, I think the original is the way to go
The 3DS versión has also a lot of QoL fixes that need to be addressed in the N64 version of the game
the 3ds looks like plastic, it does not have better graphics, just heavier textures but doesn't mean they're better graphics
@@gerard0363 You are ignoring the higher quality models, improved effects and textures, map changes and quality of life adjustments, the game does look good, you are just blind
@@Jet_Set_Go nope. He’s right. The 3ds version has no soul. It might as well be a completely different game. It’s not the real ocarina of time that the og fans know and love
@@GeorgeZimmermen I want facts, not pretty fancy phrases, dig into the explanation
Thanks, I didn't know the PC port was so much cleaner than even the 3DO remake. I'll definitely look into setting this up.
3DO? Seriously, the 3DO?
I own the 3DS version in all its glory but damn, there's no denial that smooth 60fps on the PC port makes me want to caress my face!
The 3DS version seems to have an issue dealing with lighting effects. It always seems WAY too bright, taking away the intended atmosphere in plenty of areas.
This is most painfully obvious during the final Ganon battle.
I think it's neat to have the comparison, but it seemed weird to focus primarily on the 3DS version with texture packs instead of a direct comparison. Texture packs will be ported to SOH sooner than later, so why give the skewed comparison?
I did this not to skew, but to show the best version of both at this moment. In the side by side comparison I also used a texture pack for the pc port, but one that is incomplete. The part inside death mountain has no custom textures yet, neither do the characters, but the rest do have HD textures. In the conclusion I also added that the 3ds has better graphics at the moment BUT in the future the pc port will look even better because of the wonderful modding community that OOT has.
I do see where you are coming from, but this video was meant to show people that the pc port is a more enjoyable release, despite the graphics at this moment, and I did not want to offend the creator of the texture pack so that is why I also showed it off and praised him because he did a pretty good job.
TLTR: I wanted to show that despite the 3ds looks great, the pc port is a better way to play and has a bright future. This is in response to the people asking which version is better :)
Do you know if the saves from these versions can be transferred back to the original cart? Via a retrode or something similar
I am a bit biased in favor of the 3DS version as it's the first and only version I've played. That I've seen of the N64 looks pretty primitive, dark, and bland compared to the 3DS. I'd be more interested in a PC version for the 3DS. It would probably be even better for PC version for the N64 that looks like the 3DS, but that's a tough one since they are much different builds. I don't know if a 3DS version for the PC could be made with N64 menus.
3ds emulator runs the game fine, maybe in several years this pc port will be better but it wont be soon
How did you get the FPS interpolation to 240? Mine only says 60fps, I’m sure it’s a dev build so where do I download that?
I'm really hoping that at some point we can see a sort of pseudo adaptation of the 3ds remake through this pc port.
As in, bringing in the higher quality textures, models and everything else from it with the gyro controls.
But beyond that alot would have to change tbh, a nicer controller scheme fit for a single screen would be nice, and I think alot of the lighting from the original should remain.
Havent played OoT before so waiting to get the best experience of the PC performance with 3ds graphics. Hope it comes eventually.
Do you know how to remove lag in the Citra version? It runs perfectly except every time Link goes through doors and/or enters new areas (like falling through the web in the Deku tree) with camera changes I get this annoying lag/stuttering. I've tried adjusting my settings and nothing works. Can you please help? This also even happens in the 1080p version.
Using a texture pack without enabling "Preload costum textures" will cause the game to lag when entering a new area because the emulator has to load in new textures from the hard drive.
I think I'll gear up to play the 3DS version with randomizer settings & master quest stock dungeons since I've never played those. I love the 64 versions rumble, dont even know if the PC version retained that but I need to play through the 3ds version at least once and I'm waiting for Community Textures v7 or higher & 3ds Link model to be fully implemented in the PC port before I do anything with it. I also have a Raphnet adapter with GC & N64 support so I can rumble and use analogs at the right sensitivity.
I wouldn’t mind texture packs. But this specific changes the look past what would be considered higher quality to a different style. For that reason I prefer Ship of Harkinian.
It's very hard to choose. For one, the OG 64 version is THE original and it's what most remember, and what set the *presentation and tone* for the definitive OOT experience. This is extremely important.
On the other hand, the 3DS 4k version should be the definitive version since it's what the devs TRULY intended had the 64 not been so limited, so it would make sense it's superior.
There's just something about the original that feels better.
I wish to see the N64 version, now fully intact PC Port have all of the Quality of Life features and added geometry (no alterations of any kind, just the intended geometry devs wanted) of the 3DS 4k version, while retaining the the exact presentation/tone/intent of the N64 version. Except in this case, upscale and add more polygons to the N64 graphics without altering or taking liberties. Just higher resolutions and higher polygons of the entire game.
For this HD project, the color gamut and shades of things shouldn't be expanded. It makes the items look too realistic and the charm is destroyed. The 4k OOT graphics did the 3DS port fantastic justice, but not the OG 64 presentation much justice... I wish to see that type of enhancement done for the entirety of the N64 port.
If someone could take Nerrel's MM texture pack and bring the relevant assets over to the OOT port then I think we'd really have the definitive version of the game. The textures that are exclusive to OOT would have to be remade from scratch but most of the work would pretty much already be done.
i think this is how i see it, the 3ds port of ocarina of time is an almost perfect remake that only suffers because the touchscreen (unless you play it in the 3ds) so if you can, just play it, but if your pc is not as good, you dont care about n64 models or you want the OG experience the pc port is perfect.
Maybe some day like the mario port we can see good models, because with the pc port the gameplay is really good thanks to the lack of touchscreen and fixes that you can enable
In my opinion, the pc port is better eitherway. Not only higher fps and tons of great features you can use right now, but an awesome future with even better graphics than a 3ds could ever have
I am so hoping to see modders recreate the maket in 3d in the original art style!
3ds experience mod finally did it
@@JULIAN-qs4edI think they meant recreating the original N64 market but in 3d, which I think would look dope. I've always loved the realistic look it had over the more cartoonish 3ds
Damn the man that will manage to recreate as good models than the 3ds version on this PC port will truely be a Hero of its time (get it ?) ..
I'm really looking for it tho
Henriko's pack is just a shitty ai upscale that makes the issues with the original textures now appearant
Yup. Can't believe people give him money just for putting existing textures in AI Upscaling software.
I think Nerrel's community are going to make proper textures for OOT3D, after they're finished with MM3D
I prefer the old style cause it gives me more nostalgia but both look pretty good imo!
I personaly prefer the original version, especially Link's adult facial expression, I don't know if y'all have realized it, but in the orginal version, Link has a mature facial expression (although he's only 17 years old), while in remasterezed version he still has a childish facial expression, and that's what I really desliked.
Other remasterezed versions I saw on Yt made it even worse, they made a really girly facial expression.
I really wish I could see only (literally) better grafics without any changes.
PS: Ok, the lack of Link's belt is the only detail N64 failed to not put it
The PC Port only needs the 3ds cell shading textures and models plus Ray tracing to be perfect
I'll wait to replay when we get better textures/models for the pc port. The hiccups in Citra are annoying, and the low resolution in pc port hurts my eyes.
It looks great but i prefer the original version, In the new version, things often look like they don't really belong, so "externally" in the original it creates a whole picture much better. But it still looks very good.
I can't wait until someone manages to make a randomizer for the PC version, with the source code it probably won't be long. Edit: Ok it's a thing now but no where near where the online version is
I'd love to see a lighting overhaul mod for OoT3D. The graphics comparison showed off ow much better the lighting was in the original in most areas.
I think I'll have to go for the citra version for my first playthrough, I'm too spoiled when it comes to graphics haha. 3D games during the N64 era are too crude imo, but I definitely understand why people love them, as it was probably the first time they saw real 3D in games. If I like the game enough, I could play the harkinian version to truly experience both, but for now I have to start somewhere.
Can't beat the free cam in harkinian
oh man I missed the ship... shipofharkinian site seems to be down...
Now we just have to wait for the community to start creating new assets for the game just like they did with Mario 64, I think the game has the potential to be the best version of all. Personally, I think that OoT 3DS is too bright and also, they censored many things on it.
Does the PC port include Master Mode?
Master Quest has been added to the port :)
the faded colors of the original n64 version and the rougher visuals provide a much darker and more fitting atmosphere to the game. 3ds one handles a lot better though
Just heard that the people who did this PC port? Are going to give us the ability, to be able to play the OG ocarina experience, with the 3DS graphic enhancements. Which is gonna be sick as hell.
Is,this a thing now as I want to play this game badly
@@stickboy8219There is a 3DS texture pack out and a separate mod that ports 3DS models. Their Dijipi's 3DS Texture Pack and 3DS Character Model Pack I think. Put both mods on together and put "Z" in front of the model packs folder name and you can run it with the textures and character models from 3DS. Also put on the optional gi shield mod that is on gamebanana with the model pack (put it in the model pack folder) to get the 3DS Master Sword and shield.
@@stickboy8219It's not a complete port of 3DS but it still offers a huge graphical leap.

why there isn't any texture pack for the pc port?
Djipi's 3DS Experience
Citra, because you get the additional equipment slot, that alone makes it better
You can get it in SOH to...
I quite like the 3DS models, apart from Adult links eyes. Theyre too big, look too anime/feminine.
The 3DS version is still the better looking version, but once SoH supports model swapping and potentially animation swapping that's gonna change for sure
Both versions don't have the necessary polygon counts, so HD textures make it looks out of place. Not sure that's a good thing.
Correct, sadly there is only so much I can achieve using custom textures.
Next Switch i want Oot Remake!!
Now you can install 3ds textures on the pc port. So now not only does it beat the 3ds, it crushes it too?
You are correct! With all the added enhancements, the pc port is without a question the best in my opinion :)
3DS models are possible too now so it is getting close to trouncing it!
@@diekenjensen483 Nope. Look at 7:40. N64 is full of pre rendered background while the 3DS version is full 3D remake, no mod can do that, you would need to change the whole game code.
@@spacepirate9882 It isn't as good as actual 3DS I admit but SM64 PC got a full restoration of SM64 DS so one day we might advance enough in Ocarina modding to get more features e.g 3DS lighting, fully 3D towns ect.
@@spacepirate9882 Keep in mind Ocarina could theoretically get fully 3D backgrounds, but we haven't dug into it as long or as successfully as SM64 due to Ocarina being harder to mod. Anything is possible once modders gain enough skill with a particular game.
It won’t be long before someone injects 3ds textures into pc port. When that happens that will be superior
The textures and models are avalible via two mod packs.
The PC port will hopefully get new hi-poly models and effects as well as HD textures (especially for the matte paintings and skyboxes) soon. Then
it'll surpass the 3DS version in EVERY aspect.
Currently there is no one working towards hi-poly models, there is no development being done on that regard, it won't happen if no one does it

For me the 3DS version's graphics and higher polygon models make it the preferred option.
its just too light and whimsy, it doesn't fit the story of oot. They were only ten years off the war so everything should look very half way garish
@@hued2542 I don't think the original is any more gritty visually.
Obviously the 3DS version is technically the superior, but I think it completely missed the mark when it comes to style and atmosphere. They look almost like two completely different games.
@@CrizzyD91 honestly, because the game is now open source, anything gameplay wise the 3ds game added, can pretty much also be added to the pc port.

Henriko Magnifico is the ultimate way to play Ocarina in my opinion, it's far superior in the graphics aspect and I can play it at 30 FPS without problems.
Another thing that you're not considering is that the 3DS version has no more pre-rendered backgrounds, as Nintendo remade these maps as 3D environments, which makes all the diference.
they will made this with the pc port too, just wait, pc port will be the definitive version of the game
The PC port can have infinite resolution, but better 3D models will still look better because of how clunky the old models are in comparison. Can't wait for the PC port to have even better polygons than the 3DS remake.
lol Im pretty sure the biggest difference anyone would notice is the higher poly models
*We already have 3DS trxtures, models and art packs for tge PC port. It looks BETTER. But it still looks like poop, compared to the 3DS revision.*
Citra for sure
Guys you're either blind or lying to yourself. Even with the best mods, the 3DS remaster still has better visual than PC port.
The 3DS doesn't only have remade 3D items and characters, they remade almost everything like the terrain, building, etc. they made 3D version off some location that used pre rendered backgrounds like PS1 Final Fantasy games (look at 7:40 ), they added props everywhere (lot of grass blades, rocks, etc.), they reworked the lighting, etc.
Mods can only change how some old stuff look but it can't add stuff or change the whole game code/engine.
Too bad they shut down the citra which is 3DS Emulator.
I mean... there is a remake... its unofficial but looks better then anything Nintendo ever made... 😛
But, is it the full game or just a tech demo?
those tech demos are godawful
Never liked the 3ds version. Takes away the soul of the original. I prefer the original aesthetics and the nostalgia it brings. The 3ds version isn’t what I grew up on in 1998
Why can't we just use the Texture pack on the PC port and get the best of both worlds?!?
In time this will happen :)
@@ultracreed3080 I certainly hope so! I was heartbroken when Nintendo didn't announce that the 3ds versions of OOT And MM would be ported over to The Switch. But if the fanbase can make something like that a reality, it would be amazing!
PC port obviously wins.
Citra simply isn't as straightforward to use especially because of the dual screen controls, you're better off playing 3DS games on the original hardware
Personally, I agree!
What's so hard about it? I can play just fine without needing a double screen for anything other than a pause menu. You can play through just fine using a controller & nothing more
Wow the original n64 looks way better. The mood was captured perfectly. In the 3ds version everything gives off a glow that never really lets the mood get right, and a lot of the fog is gone. I actually thought the 3ds was gonna win hands down but even its polys and stuff are only slightly better. Plus i remember on the 3ds version everything is calibrated weird in terms of gameplay, like when you are a deku scrub for example you water hop way further on 3ds so the jump puzzles are way easier, like too easy. on 3ds you are more likely to jump past a pad you are aiming for than to fall short of it. not everythings bad about that because its my least favorite part of the game, the swamp i mean, but it really showed me that calibrating the puzzles is very important and it didn't seem done correctly on 3ds.
Unfortunately 3Ds 4k looks still way better than the PC port.
N64 looks the best.. my opinion
60fps ftw
3ds version looks too good to not choose
One big advantage 3ds has going for it is better texture mapping.
No doubt PC port retextures will eventually overcome the bad OG mapping, but for now there are a lot of warped and stretched textures that look even more out of place with added detail.
The lighting in 3ds is a lot more fantasy-like and colourful, but lacks some of the darker atmosphere of the original to keep things viewable on the 3ds screen.
The models on 3ds are obviously better, even though they actually don't have significantly more polygons than the original, their rigging is more flexible and detailed, and modern techniques were used by a more experienced team.
Can't wait for render 96 to blow it out of the water though.
I prefer Citra
3ds remake of Oot and Starfox64 were Pretty ASS ; of course they were “Upgraded” in Visuals for the System But Totally Sacrificed the Soul of the Games themselves By recreating Textures Models And Movement Mechanics !
What should be done is Have 3DS Visuals/Textures But Only as a Skin And Keep the Core Gameplay and Mechanics !
Because it was Infuriating that GREZZO 3DS couldn’t Get the Gorons Moaning SFX Or Most SFX in General Sounding Right because they had to Recreate the Sound effects AND Animations which hurt the Nostalgia, and For Star Fox, Man they Completely ditched the cockpit View WTF that would have been So Cool to see in 3D also ditching the Original Multiplayer just to have more to do with the 3D and Touch screen was a Pretty Crummy move !
So yeah These Legacy Nintendo Games Need another Breath Of Fresh Air Into them The RIGHT Way
Link looks better in the original imo
3ds version looks so good damn
3Ds version looks like made out of plastic, even the water... ruined the atmosphere. N64 looks way better
Cant believe this is even a debate. An actual N64 and a cart is the definitive way to play. But seriously, the NDS port is unplayable if you grew up with this game. Idk if the devs really just wanted to make a Banjo Kazooie NDS port or what but it looks more like that than Ocarina of Time
Original oot is better than ugly ass remake.
really bad video man... use the best n64 texture port. the next time no this...
Why would you compare two different art styles though? The 3DS graphics are an abomination and should have never been made since it completely changes the look of the entire game instead of enriching it like the GameCube version did.
This is more of a 'which version should you play' as I got that question a lot. I do prefer the original myself bug my guess is that a lot of newcommers would prefer the 3ds graphics. I wanted to compare eveeyrhing, which had to include graphics
The 3DS graphics are so much better and actually look like how the game was supposed to look... minus a few areas
@@bojaidin To say how the game is supposed to look is a joke. The original is fine. The game is almost remixed they changed so much. So with that logic you are trying to say a remix is better than the original which makes zero sense
@@tonyg5132 Yes, it looks more like how the game was supposed to look.
Look at the games original concept art, then look at N64, and OOT3D. OOT3D looks more like the concept art. They were able to realize their vision better because they didn't have to deal with as many graphical limitations.
Retro elitists are funny.
@@bojaidinThere’s concept art for a lot of Zelda games that wasn’t added due to limitations. Not saying the n64 wasn’t limited what I’m saying is the game as it was on both the n64 and GameCube is beyond perfect the way it looks and changing something that doesn’t need to be changed is like modernizing the Mona Lisa painting because Leonardo Da Vinci was limited with the tools he used to paint it and doesn’t know what a more precise airbrush is. Learn to appreciate the art of the game itself instead of being a graphics snob.
The 3ds ver sucks because they got rid if the darkness
Just because they changed the lighting doesn’t mean the remake sucks just because of that.
I’d honestly play the 3ds over the pc port. But playing the 3ds is pretty much better experience than citra
Don't play this game !!
Just wait the official remaking by Nintendo
