  • Hi all,
For the last two years, I've been fed up of getting silly £1500 quotes just for two of these blinds. I am not kidding!
Because they're sloping, they're very difficult to find anyone who actually makes them.
And because I only recently worked out a way to adjust some to make them work, I HAD to film it because there's almost NO DIY tutorials on this.
I use UA-cam a lot myself, so I'm putting this out there for free content to help you. Just bear in mind that it might not work if you have a very steep sloping window.
Also, this is much easier than I thought it would be. In total, I probably spent less than a day on it (but I was filming too).
As an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases made through links.
Anyway, here's the list of what I used. This is NOT SPONSORED, nor did I receive any samples:
Direct Blinds Amaris Beige Vertical Blinds: bit.ly/2tjZFPr (two of mine cost a total of £132.05)
100 x 89mm/3.5 INCH BLIND SLATS TOP HANGERS *Make sure they're the right width for the slats you pick: ebay.eu/2tWQORb
B&M Wallpaper scissors for crisp cuts
Self tapping screws (I used these as I had them): bit.ly/2rTz4oN
Let me know if you have any questions ;)
Here's a blog post about it:

Thank you so much. You did all the hard work, so I didn't have to. I'm 71 and 4Ft 10" but following your instructions and have fitted these blinds in my sloping sun room. So easy to do and so cheap.

Well done on you. Looks good.
I was in the same situation as you. I got quoted £700/£800 for supply and fit for vertical blinds.
I then bought made to measure blinds from (blinds to go) cost me £125 and fitted them myself. Trust me it's very easy. DIY. I have no experience in fitting blinds, you can do it too.

Brilliant Job, well done! Greed has taken over in the blind business as well then? i was hoping to see Hans wandering around in the background:)
    "rob you blind" very funny

    • @TheCarpentersDaughterUK
      @TheCarpentersDaughterUK  7 років тому

Thanks :) I think Hans was mostly sunbathing in the back garden while I did this. And yes, anything slightly irregular for conservatory blinds, and we were told we needed a "specialist", so it definitely paid me to give it a shot. I just wish I knew I could do it two years ago.
I don't know why it keeps happening to us, but we never seem to find good value quotes here in North Warwickshire. I'll be vaguely covering plastering in a video soon too for the same reason and my parents always told me plasterers are cheap.

Gosh, I spent months on and off because I couldn't be arsed sewing short my brothers 40 blinds, because he's dozy and would mess it up. If only I knew about those hanger clips. Will save my sanity in the spring when I finally get blinds for my room.

thanks, Midlife Camper! You know, I was asking this yesterday as we've just put up the straight blinds now too. I'd feel a conman if I charged people that kind of money for a day's work including the blinds. I'd be worried people saw straight through me because it was so easy.

Looks so nice I was blinded by them. Bad joke aside I have watched a couple of your videos and you are very talented at what you are doing and do a great job explaining it. Your voice is pleasing , you give credit to people that have given you tips and you talk with confidence. I hope you do many more of these videos. Also you know what an inch is , that is awesome.
Is a conservatory like a 3 season glass porch? I am familiar with it being used on artistic schools and large greenhouses in a park not on a solarium. I am on a different continent though.
I am going to watch your manhole one now, as someone who had to find them to go in them I hope it is vacated..

    • @TheCarpentersDaughterUK

Thanks so much +Pat B 😀 I think you've described a conservatory well. Many people don't like them as they can be too hot or cold, but certain sizes are allowed without planning permission so suits us well.

Your video is so useful, thank you. I have a question, I am replacing my old blinds, and the vanes are 12.7cm/5" wide, but on swift direct blinds and most other sites, they are a standard 8.9 cm/3.5", so much smaller than my original ones, are yours so narrow as well? I was going to order from binds to go but stopped when I realised how much smaller they are. They are in fact sold as windows and doors blinds, so I wondered if they are the right product for a conservatory...?

Hi I'm new to your channel. Love this video re the triangular windows. We have two massive triangular windows 310 x 388cm.. and the quotes from the professionals are astronomical.. Was wondering whether you could share the links for the fabric, tracks etc. We will need thermal backed fabric as this is a sun facing window. Thanks for any help you can offer.

Welcome 😀 The quotes are crazy, aren't they? 😅 I don't remember the exact colour and texture of them, but I ordered them from what is now called Swift Direct Blinds. They weren't anything fancy, but this is the type I ordered which comes with the track www.swiftdirectblinds.co.uk/catalogsearch/result/?q=vertical%20blinds

Hi. I have a similar sloping windows, but mine are a difference of 10-12inch (large to small). Will the blinds not end up tilting if done this way?

:) I didn't enjoy the fencing as much - that was heavy work lol, but the sense of achievement, what I've worked out how to do and knowing how much money I've still got in my pocket is one of the best feelings! So why not share it if they help? Nothing's getting cheaper out there :(

@@TheCarpentersDaughterUK I saved around £350 on a landscaping job I did over the weekend (it wasn't a bodge, lol, in fact, quite the opposite), which I'm hoping to put towards a table saw. I support the trades when I can, but I was being quoted nonsensical prices for something I easily did myself.

I dislike vertical blinds thry're very businesslike and lack personality. Such a lovely kitchen, roman shades would have looked gorgeous. They remind me of hosptals and banks.
