Love from India ❤️❤️❤️🇮🇳
You know, for a garden shed vs a full garage finals, dude did a pretty good job outside that pommel
The judges never take that into consideration
Skills versus money.
@@frankzappa6391 Nah I don't think someone completely new to forging would just buy all that equipment. It's a big experience gap too
Accuracy International made their first rifles in a shed, and now they’re a world-renowned company in precision firearms manufacturing
@@coppertopv365 the world isn’t fair plenty have had shed forges and beat their higher tech competitors the real world doesn’t care about circumstances neither should this show
The judges completely missed the point! Easy removal of the pommel is necessary to end your foe rightly!
I absolutely love that this joke is still around 😂😂😂
Your a man of wisdom, I wish I could meet you in person. I loved that book
bruh
@@adamrobertson4058 what is this from? I've seen it referenced on many sword channels. Reminds me of monty python type humor
@@SoulDelSol
There’s a UA-camr named Skallagrim who ridiculed a medieval text in which it recommended a knight unscrew their sword’s pommel and throw it at their enemy to “end him rightly.”
Two thing every finalist says:
1) "I'm happy to be back in my home forge"; and 2) "I've never made anything this long before."
Sucks to lose like that, was a nice sword.
I really wish they would have show a close up of the Damascus pattern the winner made though. Low layer twisted usually looks fantastic.
Imagine smacking your sword against terracotta and the only damage it suffers is at the point furthest away from the blade. It's still a win in my book lol
They did show a close up of the Damascus pattern at around 7:00. It's just that it was _really_ close up.
U can tell there going to be a catastrophic failure when most of the vid is showing them make the blade, don't get me wrong I not mad about it I love it all 😂
"Jian sword" translates to sword sword
"Watch out commander! The enemy is outfitted with sword swords!"
Jian is the official name of the weapon, however it also translates to "Sword," in most Chinese dialects.
its dangerous to go alone take this
@@alexanderthegreat2080 "You have obtained, Sword of the sword. +50% to confusion"
no different than people saying rpg games or atm machines, sadly
Casey/buff Michael Weston had a bajillion dollars of a professional shop and nearly lost to Vince, who was able to build that sword IN A CAVE! With a BOX OF SCRAPS! Vince is awesome
Mad respect for these two smiths
I only watch these yt clips but love it every time the guy says "It will kill"
Id like to see a Klingon Batleth made and used
Jian = sword. The sword sword.
Mount Airy represent! There are literally dozens of us!!
How Ironic that the "Toad" pot broke the sword. Poison Clan Rocks the World!
Superb
Mad respect for the sponsorship at the end
What sponsorship
you mean sportsmanship?😂
9:42 lol
The winner looks like Sherminator from American Pie tho... Your sword has been TERMINATED !
I feel bad for the dude who lost, I dunno why but I like his vibe. He could make me a sword anytime having learned from this :3
striking at same spot wow...
Is there a rule against hitting the same spot in a fight? I'll happily do it if it kills you.

Day Juan! Man I miss watching Pablo Francisco.
Weren't those jians a bit... too big?
Not at all, Jian have existed for thousands of years and their design changed over that period of time. Earlier on they followed the same basic template for sword design you find for straight double-edged swords throughout Eurasia and Africa and broader designs were favoured. The narrow long design is also developed surprisingly early on but the jian we all think of is more of a late period thing.
I love blacksmith
Я так и подумал, что эта часть отлетит. Уж слишком мало сварки, ненадежно. Жаль что голову никому не отрезали.
that was good Damascus sword
KINKLE GOING ON HERE
1:32. WHy does his welder sound like he's ripping a wet one?
This sir will kill 😏😏
In fact the jian sword is used like a rapier but with more slash attack, in addition all the jian swords in the video look like as a roman gladius ( just gg han dynasty sword, you will see the different of them)
Jian have a longer handle, that jian they showed was a bad joke
@@kevinmorriceThese appeared to be much closer to a Ming Jian. They’re usually thicker than a Han Jian better at chopping and with a shorter handle.
Jain(劍) already mean sword in Chinese, so kind a weird to hear them say "Jain sword"...
Its to differentiate it from other swords. No different than calling Indian curved sabers tulwars. I mean we have nothing else in Chinese we can Anglicize to call the Jian that makes it clear what we are talking about so Jian is the best option in English.
Am I the only one who is disappointed seeing no head on the dummy
Those were far from typical graceful Jian.... dimensions were overly wide and short.
HISTORY OF THE BLADE?
Jian is written as 剑 in chinese which just means sword and pronounced like Jane not Giant. As chinese "Jian Sword" is quite strange to me.
Survive three pot shots 🤣🤣🤣
This is Han Sword
Tyson junior at 2:45
They should have peened their pommels.
The pommel is more than 2%
Explain the weapon!!!!!
ALLOW ME TO GET MY KILN GOING ON HERE
Casey forge is to far away from from his vice that's why his ballot cools to fast
That’s all they get is 10k?
Me watching that's a bad heat treat me trying to make a blade 😥😢😭🤢🤮🥺
I'd say the Pommel falling off is a little more than 2% of a problem
Yea those were not Jians. They looked more like gladiuses. Jian are supposed to be thin and elegant. Jian techniques are closer to fencing than the hacking and slashing shown here too.
I was thinking that they looked more similar to the Gladius also. The one Jet Li use, in ‘Hero’, is it? Is thin and flexible.
More recent jians are thin, but jians from the Zhou Dynasty looked like gladiuses. The jian doesn't refer to a single type of blade, but more like an umbrella term for double-edged Chinese longswords.
@@JC-ig4oyYeah, these reminded me of the chunkier Ming Jian.
That kill test was dumb… 1 poke and then 5 of the same strikes in the same place? No duh it will keel
Yeah, it's been said in the past that Doug doesn't actually decide how to attack the dummies despite being an expert.
The producers tell him what strikes to do.
Repeated gut slashes are kind of boring to watch
There have been blades that didn't keal the ballistic gel dummy believe it or not
Anyway it's not completely a pass fail test. Sure people fail with catastrophic failures and blade bends etc but it's also about the quality of test. Even when both blades keal, some clearly perform better at it than the other one
There is no rule against doing that in a fight lol.
That's a level 1 dull blade from Genshin Impact
Ew
@@silith2868 ew from the sword or from the game? haha
“jian”(剑)means sword, call it "jian sword" sounds like"sword sword"....very weird🤔
ti bad
i like Vins sword better
You literally made a rat tail sword and brought it to a functionality test...... Terrible
I get why, but I find it harsh to lose just because of a pommel breaking off
I think it was the right call, if they continued testing the handle could have come loose mid swing, accidentally launching the blade.
well not really, the pommel is essential for the swords retention, lose the pommel, and you completely lose the ability to wield a sword safely, albeit due to swinging the sword and it flying out of your hand during combat, or striking a target and the handle coming loose and then you can't wield the weapon atall. it would be stupid to continue testing without the pommel.
Yuck, the winner was so very unsympathetic... emotions like a dead rock...
Wow I hate how they say jian
Also these are pretty wide and heavy for jians
How should Jian be pronounced?
@@LothricPaladin If you watch Skallagrim, he has a good pronunciation It's more like how you'd pronounce "dzien"
Wide blades for jian absolutely existed in earlier periods. There is nothing wrong with them. Also, they are speaking English so they are under no obligation to pronounce the Chinese. If you know Chinese so well you'd know that jian just refers to a straight bladed double-edged sword anyway and doesn't refer to a specific kind of sword.
Is it just me or does Vince sound like no neck Ed from 90 day fiance?😅
A POMMEL COMING OFF IS CATASTROPHIC!?!?
Yes. Yes it is. Not only is it, as was WELL explained in the episode, essential to the retention of a one-handed sword, it also is what holds the handle onto the blade. Any further bashing without the pommel can result in the handle coming off entirely. Yes, they epoxy the handles on, typically, but that's mainly to keep it from squirming. Epoxy alone isn't considered structurally sound enough to rely on it when smashing the blade into stuff.
The swords in this episode were having weird scaling, there are many different types of one handed Chinese swords, wide and short, or thin but long, but the swords here are having the length of 1 handed but width of 2 handed.......
at least 10 different pronunciations and not a single one correct
Those are the worst looking Jians I have ever seen.
1
Yuck. I think these guys have never seen a jian
Agreed
