That was flawless, Andrew.
Fantastic - I just joined Andrew's Patreon lessons - what a fantastic deal - great lessons, great transcriptions and step by step video instruction. Out of this world great. If you are working on pieces like this one it's a must. Great stuff!
It's just note for note perfection - played perfectly. One of my all time favourites - sends electricity and joy through my body every time I hear it. Thank you for absolutely nailing one of the classics in Kottke's canon.
Thank you Pete.
Andrew you are a treasure. I really enjoy your playing and transcriptions. Thank you for keeping this wonderful music alive.
Thank you Shane, appreciate having you here.
Wow - just fucking wow. Thank you Andrew, sincerely. Sadly, I could watch your instruction from now until the end of time and not being to play it like you - and Leo!
None of us can play it like Leo or Andrew, so just play it like you!
I've been waiting for this one, love it so much. I honestly think Leo played it a bit too fast, hard to really appreciate it that fast. This is perfect.
Very cool! Thank you
Perfect as always Andrew. Thanks for taking the time…
Awesome! Thanks Andy, I look forward to learning this one.
Beautiful guitar, beautiful playing.
Fantastic, Andrew. More Kottke, please. Folks love to rib him for his new-age watershed moments, but oft forget his 80s masterpiece A Shout Toward Noon. Any track from that album would be worth your time.
Agree the 80s were another high point in his career - and would add My Father's Face which is another release with no filler whatsoever. In this period he managed to capture a bit of that 'new age' guitar sound (ala Windham Hill) without losing the bounce, drive and syncopation that elevate his playing beyond comparison.
Like you said, A Shout Toward Noon, is amazing start to finish.
Andrew! Thank you! Greatest work in your Patreon! Happy to be subscribed!♥
One of my favourite songs. Great sound great guitar ang great player of course!!!
Esecuzione perfetta !!! Compòimenti !!
Beautiful, as always. The old strings sound really nice on that guitar.
Amazing playing as always!
Thank you Jacob!
Brilliant, congratulations Andrew!
Thank you Malcolm.
I randomly came across your channel in my suggested video section and I’m really enjoying your videos. I really like the way that you shoot the videos, I am working on doing a similar sort of thing here in North Carolina and I’m definitely getting lots of good inspiration from some of the shots you’re doing.
That's solid. Your guitar is a sound for sore ears in this electronic music world.
Amazing. Players like yourself keep me motivated. Although i doubt i'll ever reach your level, i'll keep trying. Thank you Sir.
Bravo!!!
Beautiful done Andrew.😍👍
Bernard
Thanks Bernard!
good stuff ... strong fingers good right hand finger picking
Fantástico!!
Gracias Rafael.
Awesome!
Red + White = America 🇺🇸
(I might be missing a color… no worries)
Nothing makes me prouder to be an American than steel strings tied to a guitar.
Leo Kottke + 🎸 = 💰
Thank you so much Andy for helping us access that treasure of Leo Kottke’s music.

Very nice! I'd forgotten all about this tune. I'll have to dust it off and bring it back! It's interesting to hear these older, more primitive Leo compositions and compare them to say, "Peckerwood", which cannot be mistaken for anything but a Leo comp.
It’s crazy to see how much he evolved as a player. Those tunes from the late 80s and early 90s really signaled a period of new creative output in my opinion. All periods of Leo equally fantastic.
🔥 🔥
They should let you wave and grin from behind Leo as he accepts his Grammies.
For every song you play.
😭Thank you, God bless you.
(Edit) Grammys, as in multiple awards, not the innumerable mothers (fathers, etc) ignorant of
your gift and hard earned talent.
Wonderful rendition! Just wondering what kind of thumb pick are you using there Andrew?
Dunlop
That guitar fuggn rox dud
The only thing I don’t like is that I can only give this a single thumbs up. Perfect cover of the album version as per usual. Bravissimo
I’m almost sure you’ve heard this before, but you might be the next Leo Kottke.
Hi mr lardner
You have that iconic Leo K picking pattern down. Most people just do P, I, P, M and miss the subtle difference of the P+M pinch. Nice work! Watermelon uses this too, have a recording of that one?
Hi Joel. Your comment highlights something that I’ve come to understand better over the last few years, focusing in more on Leo’s works from the late 60s and early 70s. He has a strong preference for the middle finger with melody notes, this became especially apparent in Busted Bicycle. There were many notes that I assumed he would have used index to play, but when I did a deep dive and referenced early video I was surprised to find him using middle. Haven’t done watermelon yet.
@@andrewlardner You obviously put a lot of time and care into these pieces and it shows, excellent playing!
Really nice! Do you have transcriptions of all your leo kottke vids on your patreon?
Not all. If a lesson is available on the Patreon it will be mentioned in the video description.
@@andrewlardner Ok, thank you.
Awesome playing!, just subscribed to your cannel! Which is that model of Martin?, looks very comfortable for travelling, Which body type you think has the best combination of ergonomics and good low end and presence on fingerpicking?
It is a 000-18 from 1935. Ergonomics will depend on the size of the player. The 000-18 model sure checks many of the boxes you’ve outlined in my opinion. Very light because of the mahogany, great low end because of the very light forward shifted bracing.
@@andrewlardner Great, thanks for the info, I just looked that Martin model and the 000-18 new ones are 2,600 dollars 😮 It certainly is a beautiful guitar but I'm looking for something that is around 800 dollars, any recommendations on that price range with that shape? Thanks again for your response!
@@Alex_Martz Wait till you encounter the world of vintage, 30s 000-18s are now selling north of 20k! About the only new acoustics I like at the lower price point are Eastman. Try to play one if you can.
@@andrewlardner Yes, vintages are out of my reach, I'll try the Eastman, thanks again!
@@Alex_Martz Recording King are worth checking out too.
A lot of bang for your buck!
Beautiful, better off keeping the old strings in my opinion! Is it a D18? What strings?
Yes I like the strings older, my opinion on the tone in this recording seems to change depending on what system I’m listening to it on. In general I like strings to be at least a few weeks old for recording. This is a 000-18, 1935. I put daddario pb lights on all of my guitars. Sometimes medium on newer dreads.
