I think Muriel is a very interesting and quality player, underrated in the team because everyone thinks of Ilicic and Zapata, his minutes per goal shows how good he is
Muriel is one of the best players I've ever seen playing in the last 20 or 25 minutes. Maybe the best player coming from the bench ever in Serie A. He is often a true crack in the second half. And he is also one of the closest players to Ronaldo R9 I've ever seen (even if only in those last 25 minutes).

Another key element to Atalanta's success I would add is their surprising strength in depth, particularly in attack. It says a lot that the team's top scorer in the league this year, Luis Muriel, isn't even a starter. Muriel and Ruslan Malinovskyi usually come in with 20-30 minutes to go, and pick up exactly where any of Gomez, Ilicic, Zapata, or Pasalic left off. Same thing at wing-back, Timothy Castagne is supremely efficient and never seems to put a foot wrong when he comes on for either of Hateboer or Gosens. You can tell that the tactical training is intense enough that basically every sub becomes a supersub, everyone knows exactly what to do, what their role is, and how to work with the players that are already on the pitch. Muriel and Malinovskyi also have some absolute rocket launchers for feet. Combine that with excellent team play, organization, and the tendency to get attacking players in ridiculously ideal positions to score from, its really unsurprising that this team regularly racks up 5+ goals per game.

It’s crazy how their transfer structure works, like this season they signed Malinovskiy for a joke fee and look how crucial that player is as a substitute and how fast he adapted to the attacking style they play. Genius
Czybora, Gosens, Hateboer and De Roon were all scooped up for peanuts at midtable Dutch teams. The men in charge have unbelievable eye for what they need.
You missed one trademark move explaining their success in counterattacks (as well as the exceptionally high number of goals by wingbacks). Atalanta always fills the box with 3 to 5 players with great runs from the two wingbacks and at least one central midfielder. Ideally, two central midfielder get the ball back, send one wingback up in the space available on the wing, while the other wing runs highon the other side and Gomez, Zapata or Ilicic offer lines for triangles to allow the wing to go even deeper with the ball. Normally this allows for a formation in which one wingback is able to cross or pass the ball from the side of the box and has a striker (Zapata or Ilicic) on the first post, Gomez or a central midfielder waiting outside the box for a long shot from ideal position, the second stricker that moves towards the penalty spot and the second wingback that arrives on the second post. This filling of all areas in and outside the box make it almost impossible to defend without huge ccordination. Atalanta players are so used to this scheme that they execute it almost flawlessly in movement, the only variable to success being the quality of the pass from the winger which is often physically tested by the big runs. For a demonstration, go see the two matches against Valencia. They used this scheme all the time (Hateboer's goal was a variation on it). In Seria A as well.
I think you overglossed on a crucial aspect of Atalanta's game: the man-to-man defense and the preventive marking (that lead to the good transition covers and the number of intercets). That's why physical fitness is key for Gasperini's side
Finally! I'm glad you made this video 😁⚽️. Gasperini and Atalanta have been a revelation in Serie A over the last 4 years. Their football is beautiful and elegant to watch. It is truly impressive how each of their players compliments each other seamlessly. I still believe this Atalanta team can take it to the next level and win the Serie A in the future. Maybe even pull of a Leicester City and win the Champions League ☺
As you said Atalanta is improving year by year, winning the title would be a very different story from Leicester. I think that they are even a better team than that Leicester, but they haven't been as lucky with big clubs all performing badly in the same season.
It's amazing how they play fluidly on the pitch, and yet how difficult actually is to grasp their tactics. Atalanta is Italian football's proud! Thank you for the great video!
Most significant is that many of the players are unknown & that's the recipe to create chemistry among players rather than using superstars in the team. I would love to see a match between Leipzig(who also play with 3 at back) & Atlanta if the UCL resumes🤗

Those are some creative tactics...much praise to the manager and the players well done! I wasn't expecting Atalanta to be a great team this season I'm impressed...
The explanation of these tactics are amazing. These can be very helpful for upcoming managers of the beautiful game. Can you do a video maybe explaining the requirements for becoming a manager? That'll be helpful. P.S. It's a retirement plan. Might come handy. Amazing work though.
Such requirements really differ depending on the nation (conf) you want to manage in, but broadly speaking if you ever played Football Manager and remember asking your board to fund your coaching license, these are universally required to manage anywhere in Europe. So for basically any top tier division you'll need to hold UEFA Pro license as a manager or at least UEFA A license as an assistant and lower qualifications licesnses are required to work at lower levels. Such licenses are universally recognized and can be acquired in any national confederation you prefer regardless of your citizenship. Most courses will last month or few, though Pro licenses take around 9.
no disrespect to Sheffield, but i don't think they'd have much of a chance against a team who has scored 7 goals on three occasions this season who play in the league with the the highest defensive sophistication in the world
I also agree. As a matter of fact I think the last time I had Atalanta losing a match was way back in January. They won't win the Serie A right now but there's a chance they can become a serious force in the Champions league as well as Serie A beginning this season. Gasperini should be the next Liverpool coach. Let them do away with Klopp.
This is not a flash in the pan season, this has been the result of the foundation set in the last five years by Atalanta. I doubt that any big team like Barcelona would be patient enough with Gasperini. He has already failed at Inter.
@Alex Kanyima they were patient with him, gave him the players he wants. For a system like this to work, the entire club from top to bottom has to trust the manager

I like their build up. The perfect balance between building action from behind and long balls. Many ways to rotate players in different matches that manipulate the opponent. They do many things differently than other teams. Just nice to look at.
Atalanta has really proven themselves as a force to be reckoned with in the modern serie a situation. Their UCL campaign looks really promising and may be the underdog story of this season similar to the Ajax side of last season or Monaco' side a couple of years ago.
atalanta always plays a diamond shape on both side of the pitch with the ball leading them to fast paced passes that eventually will result in a gol. during their game this is so noticeable yet no one can stop them, they always score 5-6-7 goals with this tactics. gasperini pure genius
Atalanta (Dea) (Goddess) is part of Greek mythology, The myth tells that Atalanta's father wanted a boy, and at the birth of her, as was the custom in these cases, he abandoned her on Mount Pelio. Artemis then sent a bear, who took care of it by nursing and raising it. Some time later Atalanta was found by a group of hunters who raised it. Her propensity for hunting manifested itself early when she faced and killed with the bow the centaurs Ileo and Reco who had tried to rape her. So the name of this team is a whole program, they go hunting for opponents
Their ability to create overloads in the centre but remain in shape at the same time, especially against sides that defend deep is crazy. I can see some similarities Atalanta share with Sheffield United.
Atalanta truly is one of the most exciting teams right now and I'm constantly amazed by the sheer consistency they perform on a high level with. Also, that team isn't exactly following the trend of always signing young players to mold them into a certain system, but the only criteria seems to be "does he fit into our team's chemistry and is he tactically smart?" rather than age. This shows in Atalanta's mean age of the starting eleven, most are 25 or above and possibly that's why they manage to keep their team together - no club seems to look at them like a shopping window for young, talented players, as an investment so to speak. On the one hand, that alongside international football is what keeps this team together. On the other hand, that could prove fatal as soon as Ilicic (32) and Gomez (32) experience a performance dip due to age. Atalanta will have to continue acing their transfers - low transfer sums for well fitting players
Some Random Edgy Guy you’re more than right, but the Sport Director has been already signing very good players in those positions (such as Malinosvkyi) and fortunately we have a very good academy which can provide us good players like Traore (2002) who’s already scored in this year’s serie A
Fantastic analysis. Another aspect to consider is the good depth of the squad... for example the video didn't even cover Muriel, Castagne, and Malinovskiy -- all of whom have contributed a lot this season. Also amazing is how deep Gomez is now dropping within this scheme ... for example in the July 2 match v Napoli he was almost in a Pirlo role at times!!
High level work rate, use width to create space in attacking third, and overload ball side attack creating a numbers advantage. If you ever run a 3-4-3 or 3-5-2 you need to do this. One thing I didn’t hear though is dominating 1v1’s. This formation will create 1v1 opportunities everywhere on the field. The North Carolina women’s team won 20+ national championships running a 3-4-3 with very similar style of play.
You should check out this season's Hellas Verona, Ivan Juric learned from Gasperini when he was his captain at Genoa and he's now blossoming as a coach utilising some similar tactics With one difference, we play 3-4-2-1 but don't rely on a real striker: usually Zaccagni & Pessina (loaned from Atalanta) play behind Borini (who only joined in January) or Verre Except of course when Pazzini comes off the bench and decides the game (160 minutes played, 4 goals)
As an Italian I'm excited to watch Atalanta, Italian football 2.0 may be born after half century of super defensive "catenaccio" (Rocco, Herrera)...now it's just the opposite - total football with central defenders that score aswell and not from a corner kick :)
This is so crazy it’s like organized chaos

So glad for Atalanta, I met many lovely people on my trips for Bergamo between 2013-2016 and they were struggling at times back then! Forza Atalanta!
This is the BEST Atalanta team EVER!
Okay, now how do I coach my players to emulate the ref in FM?
There is a YT channel who likes to change te default setting of the teams in FiFA 20 in order to emulate te real life playstyle.

Can we maybe get a Stade de Reims tactics video, they've had one of Europe's best defences, it would be interesting to see how Guion gets the best out of the impressive defensive personnel he has.
would be a good time to cover what's going wrong with Atalanta this season
Finally, Atalanta!
Those are some creative tactics...much praise to the manager and the players well done! I wasn't expecting Atalanta to be a great team this season I'm impressed...
yes..they remind me of Monaco of 2016-17..
Most courses will last month or few, though Pro licenses take around 9.
abb ba thank you for your help. 🙌🏻
Atalanta vs Sheffield United would be joy to watch
Unconventional..
Actually I think they’d nullify each other a bit
Next season's Champions League final
no disrespect to Sheffield, but i don't think they'd have much of a chance against a team who has scored 7 goals on three occasions this season who play in the league with the the highest defensive sophistication in the world
Astro Not Atalanta destroyed Valencia like it was nothing I don't think Sheffield would be a problem.
I am here after their so deserved win in the europa league
Congrats to atalanta!
Their long-term project has finally rewarded them
That team was so interesting to watch
I think I'd like my club playing like them
I swear if gasperini had a squad like Barca he'd surely won champions league
I also agree. As a matter of fact I think the last time I had Atalanta losing a match was way back in January. They won't win the Serie A right now but there's a chance they can become a serious force in the Champions league as well as Serie A beginning this season. Gasperini should be the next Liverpool coach. Let them do away with Klopp.
not necessarily, managing superstars is an entirely different job i feel like
This is not a flash in the pan season, this has been the result of the foundation set in the last five years by Atalanta. I doubt that any big team like Barcelona would be patient enough with Gasperini. He has already failed at Inter.
@Alex Kanyima they were patient with him, gave him the players he wants. For a system like this to work, the entire club from top to bottom has to trust the manager
@@abhinandukanil3415 He failed at inter because Inter had the mentality of Mourinho that time which is defensive and Gasperini game is attack. The tactic of Gasperini would work for Barcelona because they play attack
Get the ball to Zapata
the most impressive thing about him is that he was injured for a great part of the season and still he managed to score 11 goals
Or to BIG PAPA GOMEZ
@@paolo3964 that's not nice
@@benardboateng8291 my comment was badly written, I didnt mean to say that it's good he was injured, now I corrected it
Tifo, please go back to these videos! I love them!

The greatest videos on UA-cam.
Atalanta's tactics remind me of me when I was a noob on FootballManager.
The best tactics analysis about Atalanta I've heard so far. Great job, thank you from Italy!
Alejandro Gomez🔥🔥🔥
💔😔it ended in tears
Da tifoso atalantino nato a Bergamo sono così orgoglioso di leggere così tanti commenti positivi su questa squadra che è davvero formidabile. Grazie a tutti.
Ever since I started following siria A I have rooted for this team
TIFO, this is your most captivating video so far. This was fascinating. I loved every moment of it.
I like their build up. The perfect balance between building action from behind and long balls. Many ways to rotate players in different matches that manipulate the opponent. They do many things differently than other teams. Just nice to look at.
The most fascinating and most educational analysis I've ever seen so far and it's also a ton of fun. Thanks brother!
One of the best football related channels on UA-cam.
Kudos tifo, you guys are the best in football tactics..
This animation is much better , Tifo
Great Analysis Alex and obviously Joe with his soothing voice
Atalanta has really proven themselves as a force to be reckoned with in the modern serie a situation. Their UCL campaign looks really promising and may be the underdog story of this season similar to the Ajax side of last season or Monaco' side a couple of years ago.
Sheffield United will stop them
most complicated tifo video I've ever watched gasperini is a genius
The improvement in animation quality is insane man. Great vid tifo
atalanta always plays a diamond shape on both side of the pitch with the ball leading them to fast paced passes that eventually will result in a gol. during their game this is so noticeable yet no one can stop them, they always score 5-6-7 goals with this tactics. gasperini pure genius
Their style of play is so confusing but very effective
Now I see why they tend to score so many goals
Great video! Best explanation of Atalanta’s tactics so far. Cheers m8!
The most entertaining team in Europe 🔥🔥
Atalanta (Dea) (Goddess) is part of Greek mythology, The myth tells that Atalanta's father wanted a boy, and at the birth of her, as was the custom in these cases, he abandoned her on Mount Pelio. Artemis then sent a bear, who took care of it by nursing and raising it. Some time later Atalanta was found by a group of hunters who raised it. Her propensity for hunting manifested itself early when she faced and killed with the bow the centaurs Ileo and Reco who had tried to rape her. So the name of this team is a whole program, they go hunting for opponents
Always nice to learn something new and hunting definetely fits them this season
@@leevihellman Atalanti(in Greek) was the goddess of running. And in the bagde of Atalanta she look like she is running
@@nerazuronerazuro4886
Error, she was a hunter also inquire why Greek mythology has always been the same for 2500 years
Their ability to create overloads in the centre but remain in shape at the same time, especially against sides that defend deep is crazy. I can see some similarities Atalanta share with Sheffield United.
5:22 a subtle little plug there. I see you Tifo
After watching their match against PSG in the UCL quarter finals, i have understood the video very well. Thank you Tifo
I love the new graphics they’re using in this video
Great to finally see a video on gasperrini and atalanta
Never been thinking that Gasperini will be so that good. Enjoying this side more than those that play sarriball.
Athletic? Ilicic, the grandma?
Oh wait, you mean *that* Athletic ...
Liverpool loves Atalanta's tactics
I’ve been waiting for an in-depth video about their tactics. Thanks for making this.
Great video as always from Tifo
Damn Tifo keeping us up to date

Great video af! 🔥
As always amazing video, thanks Tifo! Alè Atalanta Alè 🖤💙
Pasalic is one of the most underrated midfielders, in every club where he has played he was perfect
Nah malinoskyi is better than him
Some gems for Indian Super League coaches, right here! 🔥🔥
It's so similar to my FM-19 tactic with Galatasaray which works brilliantly against almost every tactic with a well-built team
been waiting for this! FORZA ATALANTA
Berat Djimsiti its doing amazing this year. Really impressed by him
Atalanta truly is one of the most exciting teams right now and I'm constantly amazed by the sheer consistency they perform on a high level with.
Some Random Edgy Guy you’re more than right, but the Sport Director has been already signing very good players in those positions (such as Malinosvkyi) and fortunately we have a very good academy which can provide us good players like Traore (2002) who’s already scored in this year’s serie A
I do see Zapata near the by line a lot. He has a surprisingly good touch for his size
The video I’ve been waiting for
Forza Atalanta ! In CL we axpect at least semi-final,or even more :D. Greetings from AC MIlan fan.
Been waiting for this video for ages🤩🤩🤩
Best football channel 💪👍😘🇩🇿🇩🇿🇩🇿
Zapata getting violated, your art guy makes him look like Leatherface from Texas Chainsaw Massacre💀
Finally the video that I want. Thanks Tifo Football!
great animation. Kudos Tifo
You should check out this season's Hellas Verona, Ivan Juric learned from Gasperini when he was his captain at Genoa and he's now blossoming as a coach utilising some similar tactics
With one difference, we play 3-4-2-1 but don't rely on a real striker: usually Zaccagni & Pessina (loaned from Atalanta) play behind Borini (who only joined in January) or Verre
Except of course when Pazzini comes off the bench and decides the game (160 minutes played, 4 goals)
Atalanta have ripped up the rule book in Serie A and now the whole of Europe is taking notice. Brilliant side to watch.
As an Italian I'm excited to watch Atalanta, Italian football 2.0 may be born after half century of super defensive "catenaccio" (Rocco, Herrera)...now it's just the opposite - total football with central defenders that score aswell and not from a corner kick :)
This new format in this video is really impressive
Weird when you only talk about Atalanta on Facebook and all of a sudden UA-cam gives you recommendations with Atalanta
